Christian Nationalists were out in force at Mar-a-Lago on Friday night, once again demonstrating their proximity to Maga power.

The black-tie event was the America First Policy Institute gala at Trump’s Palm Beach estate, where the former president was soon to speak.

Former Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolf delayed and changed an intelligence report warning of Russian interference in the 2020 election due to concerns it would “hurt” former President Trump, according to an investigation by the department’s inspector general office.
The watchdog’s office said it interviewed an individual in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&a) “who told us the Acting Secretary asked the product be held because it made President Trump look bad and hurt President Trump’s campaign — the concept that Russia...

Former president Donald Trump’s baseless attacks on mail-in voting during the 2020 election went further than just all-caps rage-tweets and unhinged statements to the media.
In April 2020, as election officials across the country scrambled to scale up their vote-by-mail operations at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, one of Trump’s top political appointees directed the Department of Homeland Security to look into potential voter fraud in the presidential contest later that year, Politico reported Friday, citing a former Dhs official.

Oregon governor Kate Brown, until Friday, could not get President Donald Trump on the phone. She noted this the day before, when she also revealed her state has never seen this amount of uncontained wildfire. The skies have turned into a literal hellscape and more than one million acres have burned to date, double what the state normally sees in a year. Right now, about half a million Oregonians are facing evacuation orders. At least five people there have died, and dozens more are missing. And yet, the White House...

Washington — They juiced the numbers to fabricate a non-existent terrorist threat on the southern border to make the case for President Trump’s border wall. They buried the intelligence about Russian interference in American elections to keep the president happy. They demanded the reassignment or termination of “deep state” analysts whose reports didn’t fit the administration’s predetermined narrative about violence and corruption in Latin America. And they retaliated against the career official who dared to question or resist these moves.

As Donald Trump prepares to give a norm-shattering acceptance speech on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday, government watchdogs claim that some of the reality TV-like moments from the Republican National Convention may have violated a key ethics law.
On Thursday, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics In Washington requested a investigation of Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf for his participation in a naturalization ceremony at the White House that was one of the surprise moments of Tuesday night’s convention proceedings. The naturalization ceremony was pre-taped, but it was one of several instances where the White House was used for a big reveal.
According to Crew, “By participating in this event that mixed official government business with support of a political party and a candidate for partisan political office, Mr. Wolf appears to have used his official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with...

The state of Oregon is suing the Trump administration in federal court to halt what it likens to the “kidnap and false arrest” of protesters in downtown Portland, alleging that the administration’s secret-police tactics are violating core constitutional rights.
In a harrowing new tactic, reminiscent of fascist regimes, armed federal officers without agency badges have begun grabbing protesters off the street, throwing them into unmarked cars and jailing them without formally arresting them, according to court records. The state of Oregon is seeking a permanent injunction to prevent what...

Portland protesters allege that federal law enforcement officials are driving through the streets of Portland, Oregon in unmarked cars and interrogating them as part of an effort to quell their First Amendment rights.
According to Oregon Public Broadcasting, a protester named Mark Pettibone and his friend Conner O’Shea were demonstrating outside the Multnomah County Justice Center in Downtown Portland when a group of men in camouflage jumped out of an unmarked van and chased after them. While O’Shea managed to hide, Pettibone was taken by the men to...

Filmmakers Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts’ “For Sama” (PBS) took top honors at the 35th Annual Ida Documentary Awards at the Paramount Theatre Saturday night. The harrowing and intimate portrait of a young couple who continued to live in Aleppo with their new baby while under intense fire from government troops took home Best Feature. “It’s a dark time in the world,” said British filmmaker Watts, who helped Al-Kateab shape her extraordinary footage into a film. “When I think about documentaries right now I feel hope that things are going to get better.”
A show of enthusiastic Ida support came early in the evening with a rousing standing ovation when Al-Kateab accepted the coveted Courage Under Fire award, given to someone who demonstrates extraordinary courage in pursuit of the truth. Two organizations representing documentary filmmakers are challenging new State Department “extreme vetting” rules that require visa applicants to disclose all social media handles they have used in the past five years.
“We feel these new policies infringe upon foreign filmmakers’ freedom of expression, and they also interfere with Americans’ ability to engage with a diverse set of thinkers and creators from around the world,” the International Documentary Association said in a statement.
The Ida and the Doc Society filed the lawsuit this week, with support from the Knight First Amendment Institute and the Brennan Center for Justice. They name as defendants Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf.
The lawsuit (read it here) claims that the registration requirement is “the cornerstone of a far-reaching digital surveillance regime that enables the U.S. government to monitor visa applicants’ constitutionally protected speech and associations, not just at the time they apply for visas,...

There's something refreshing and nostalgic about Carolina Liar's sound. You can easily make out the influence of modern marvels like The Killers and The Fray or the ever stalwart U2 in the mix, and yet there's a bit of that 90s alt rock sound thrown in that makes it feel familiar. Even if their debut album Wild Blessed Freedom doesn't hit shelves until September 27th. Forgive the pun, but it's something of a mixed blessing to have a sound that feels familiar: you can come under fire for being just another link in the long chain of whichever musical trend is currently ravaging the charts. And honestly the 90s aren't so far gone that people aren't still occasionally listening to Third Eye Blind or Eve 6. The point being that comparisons to already established artists can be a death sentence for some bands when it comes to the listeners...

We were honored and thrilled to have been invited down to the studios where Carolina Liar finished up their newest album, “Wild Blessed Freedom,” which is set to release on September 27th. Upon arrival, there were mimosas flowing, the celebration was just getting started. Lead singer Chad Wolf was so excited to play the first single, “Drown,” for us and insisted we give him feedback. To sit there and watch Chad listen to it for the first time was somewhat surreal. His smile was enormous and stretched from ear to ear. He was bopping his head and couldn’t sit still. The excitement was written all over his body. The band’s last hit, “Show Me What I’m Looking For,” did so well and Chad admits he’s wondering how his fans will love the new record. He says regardless if the new album succeeds or fails, he’s...

The Inspirational Song choices are available on iTunes, so we thought we'd offer some suggestions for the "American Idol" Top 7.
We will admit that the song list is rather weird -- some of the songs don't exactly strike us as "inspirational," plus you have to automatically discount certain songs. For example...
The Idols should probably steer clear of the other Idol songs. Like "A Moment Like This" is the No. 1 Kelly Clarkson "Idol" moment, so we're not sure they should try that one. Doing other Idol hits is just a little too meta. We'd call that a big no-no.
Then there are the over-played barf-worthy songs like "Greatest Love of All" and "That's What Friends Are For." We'd advise steering clear of those too, especially since "Greatest Love" should just be retired after Cordelia Chase did it for the "Buffy" talent show. Then there are a few duets on the list,...
