Back in 2010, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil screened at the first-ever Telluride Horror Show, so it's only fitting that the cult horror comedy returns to this year's festival for a special screening and Q&a with director Eli Craig and legendary horror host Joe Bob Briggs. The first wave of programming for the 10th annual Telluride Horror Show also includes Joe Begos' Vfw, Travis Stevens' Girl on the Third Floor, and Brandon Christensen's Z (which won the Scariest Film Award at this year's Popcorn Frights Film Festival).
You can read the full first wave of programming below, stay tuned to Daily Dead for details on the second wave, and to learn more, visit Telluride Horror Show's official website.

Stars: Maria Leite, Pedro Barão Dias, Joaquim Guerreiro, João Vilas, Mário Oliveira, Clemente Santos, Francisco Afonso Lopes | Written and Directed by Fernando Alle
You know a film has to have a certain quality when it gets picked up for distribution by Troma; and if you’ve seen director Fernando Alle’s previous shorts: Papa Wrestling and Banana Mother***ker, you’ll know what that quality is… sheer creative insanity. And Mutant Blast is no different!
The film tells the story of Maria, a fearless soldier who, after rescuing Ts-347, a man with superhuman strength, is being pursued by a military cell responsible for scientific experiments that created Ts-347 And resulted in a zombie apocalypse. On the way, they meet Pedro, a man with few ambitions and a great hangover (and imagination). Together, they will try to escape to a safe place, but complications cross their paths in the form of a nuclear bomb.

Portuguese filmmamker Fernando Alle first popped up on our radar a few years ago with a short film he co-directed called Banana Motherfucker, a story about cursed bananas, filled to the brim with gloriously gory practical effects. A short time after that Alle began working on his debut feature length film, Mutant Blast, and it finally arrived in the Fall of 2018. Mutant Blast has been enjoying a healthy sprint on the festival circuit, starting back home in Portugal at Motelx and on to Chatanooga, Blood Window Fest, picking up a couple awards at Fantaspoa, and will be playing this week at BiFan in Korea. The first trailer for Mutant Blast is now here. Find it in all its head smashing and stabbing...

I know you have just come back from the Cannes festival, where you premiered Return To Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 2 (2017). Can you tell me what your experience was like in Cannes this year?
It’s getting more and more difficult at the Cannes film festival for independent movie artists to do publicity, unless they have the hundred thousand dollar posters or the money for the big party that worships the shrine of money and jewellery and fashion. Cannes is more about the jewellery and fashion than it is about movies. It’s clear the Cannes film festival does not want any independent movie there that is not part of the elite, that’s not part of the club, that is not part of the very refined fascist mentality. I think they show good movies, but if those good movies are not in with the club, forget it. Troma is famous.

What new horrors await us on DVD this month? Well, lots of bloodsuckers, for starters...
As the old Simpsons quote goes, there are only three real monsters, kid: Dracula, Blacula and Son of Kong. Sadly, giant gorilla junior doesn’t make an appearance this month though we’ve at least got the first two categories covered.
Leading the way with aplomb, our friend Blacula finally graces this young blog with not one but two classics released on Blu-ray and DVD as a complete collection. In case you’re not familiar with this wonderful splicing of seventies Blaxploitation and gothic horror (shame on you if so), the tale of undead African prince Mamuwalde and his ongoing struggle with both his own bloodlust and pesky locals trying to stake him through the heart is both surprisingly well-made and massively enjoyable. Oh, and its success also led to the subsequent release of Blackenstein,...

TromaDance returns to terrorize Asbury Park, NJ for their 14th annual edition, which will be held — for free! — at Asbury Lanes on April 12-13. It’s two days and nights of gonzo short films from all over the world, plus a few low-budget feature-length genre excursions and one documentary.
But, the big highlight of the fest will be a special workprint preview screening of Troma daddy Lloyd Kaufman’s latest epic of grotesqueness and debauchery: Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 1, the fourth trilogy-busting entry in the classic Nuke ‘Em High series. This will screen on the 13th at 8:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a Q&A with the always entertaining Kaufman himself.
Other features include Quentin Dupiex’s 2nd flick, the missing dog comedy Wrong; angry birds of prey return to terrorize L.A. in James Nguyen’s Birdemic 2; werewolf soldiers invade NYC in Battledogs; a...

The TromaDance film festival makes it into puberty with their 13th annual edition and you won’t want to miss where they’ve grown some hair on May 4-5 at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It’s two days of hormone-fueled short films, voice-changing features and a star-studded panel discussion.
Two features will be screening at the fest: Steven Kostanski‘s VHS throwback action sci-fi horror flick Manborg and the Trost brothers’ dance-fight video game frenzy The Fp.
The rest of TromaDance is stuffed to the gills with disturbing, grotesque and just downright freaky short films, including Greg Hanson‘s garbage disposal love story Sinkhole and Aaron Zegher‘s ghostly I See a Light. Short film blocks are broken down by theme, such as “Monsters,” “Zombies,” “Madness” and an absolutely not-for-kids “Saturday Morning Cartoons” collection.
Plus, on Saturday evening, there will be a panel discussion on the marketing...

Day one could probably be classed as female retribution night: comprising Hong Kong Cat3 delight Dream Home followed by the recent Us remake of I Spit On Your Grave (review). The B-Movie, Underground and Trash Film Festival is an annual celebration of the most outrageous, most exploitative, craziest and downright weird cinema that the world has to offer. The latest edition will unspool in the heart of the city of Breda in The Netherlands on Sept. 8-12.

Also, each year Butff celebrates the work of a particular living legend. Day four of Frightfest began with the very disappointing French horror The Pack. You can find my review of the film here.
Following The Pack and the ‘Quiz from Hell’ by Andy Nyman, Frightfest audiences were treated to a selection of Short Films from around the world. You can see the full list of shorts over at the Frightfest website. My favourites were:
The Rise of the Appliances (Rob Sprackling) - A comedy horror in which household appliances rise up and take over the world. The short was really funny in places. Not all the jokes landed successfully but when they did they were great.
Dead Hungry (William Bridges) – Why doesn’t anyone care about how hard it must be living as a zombie and trying to find food. Dead Hungry cares. Focusing on just one of the zombies in the middle of a generic zombie film Bridges takes a...

FrightFest’s International Short Film Showcase returns to the festival with a bang. Featuring zombies, vampires, monsters and madness… Oh, and wrestlers… and killer household appliances! Also screening in this years showcase is The End – a new short from Marc Price, the director of the £45 zombie flick Colin.
If any of these short films is half as good as Deadspeil, the zombie-curling short shown at FrightFest Glasgow earlier this year, then the London audience is in for a treat. The full list:

We've all been there, man. You're just doing your thing and not bothering anyone, and then all of a sudden you find yourself being victimized by some ridiculous dickhead schlub with way too much time on his hands. Revenge when it comes can be really sweet, but in the case of Papá Wrestling it can also be sticky and dripping with entrails.
In our never ending quest to keep you informed about cool shit everywhere that's of the darker variety, we now present to you one of the funniest and demented damned things we've seen in a while ... Papá Wrestling.
