Specializing in fast paced story telling and observational humor… and being loud. Dane Cook can often be seen moving all over that stage as he uses his entire body to tell a joke. He also used social media to promote himself before that was even a thing. Mr. Cook comes off like your energetic roommate ranting in the living room after a few too man brewskis…and its kinda a beautiful thing to watch and like it or not, he was exactly what the world of comedy needed at that time. Dane Cook’s style was soon embraces by millions, allowing him to fill up stadiums with laughing frat boys and and comedy connoisseurs alike. He stole the hearts of many young people… and stole the jokes of many funny people… or just happened to have the same funny thought. The dude became more of a rockstar than a stand...

Ain’t love grand! it truly is a beautiful thing when two people meet and fall in love.Well, except maybe in the case of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. For many of us, we meet these people at work and try to keep it hidden from the watchful eye of human resources, but in Hollywood, there is more than Hr watching your every move. Paparazzi stalk you, shooting 100 pictures a minute to sell the juiciest one to the tabloids for the rest of the world to eat up with their morning coffee. The bigger the star you are, the more attention any picture of you gets. Johnny Depp was no stranger to having his love life plastered on every tabloid magazine and hack TV show, so when he started dating a girl 23 years his junior, Amber Heard, who he met while filming The Rum Diaries, it was bound to get some headlines,...

Of all the actors to get caught up in the #MeToo movement, perhaps one of the most surprising was Dustin Hoffman. Back in 2017, when the actor was fresh off of delivering one of his finest latter-day performances in The Meyerowitz Stories, the actor was confronted (some say ambushed) at a 20th-anniversary screening of Wag the Dog by comedian John Oliver, who questioned him about accusations of inappropriate behaviour from thirty years prior on the set of Death of a Salesman. The story went viral, and soon a story about Hoffman’s treatment of Meryl Streep on the set of Kramer vs Kramer also got renewed play, much to Streep’s dismay, who said Hoffman had apologized years earlier, and she accepted that.
In the years since, Hoffman’s career has been low-key, with him only showing up in a few indie and international films, which is a significant comedown for...

Ice Ice Baby. Go Ninja Go Ninja Go. If a guy was everywhere in 1990 and 1991, it was Vanilla Ice. A white rapper from Dallas, Texas – whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, the much-mocked but extremely popular rapper scored a multi-platinum debut with his album To The Extreme, which sold seven million copies and, at the time, was the fastest-selling hip-hop album of all time. His signature track, “Ice Ice Baby”, which sampled Queen’s “Under Pressure”, was the highest-charting rap single ever, as was his cover of “Play That Funky Music”.
Vanilla Ice was so popular among teens that he showed up as himself in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze, where he sang “Ninja Rap” (Go Ninja Go). But, just as quickly as he rose, Vanilla Ice fell, with his acting debut, Cool As Ice, widely mocked as one of the worst films of...

Whether you know him as Captain James T. Kirk, Sgt. T.J. Hooker, Denny Crane, or General Mortars from National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1, William Shatner is one of entertainment history’s most iconic figures. The Canadian actor is seven decades into his career as a celebrated actor, science-fiction legend, author, musician, and more. His career began in 1951 when he landed a small role in the Canadian comedic drama The Butler’s Night Off. Compared to actors like Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Robert Redford, Shatner continued building his credits on the Broadway stage and performing minor roles in television and film.
Shatner eventually entered the world of science-fiction with a part in two episodes of The Twilight Zone: “Nick of Time,” and “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.” In 1966, Shatner beamed up as the captain of the USS Enterprise, James T. Kirk. When his history-making role ended after three seasons and seventy-nine episodes,...

No one could have predicted that Sound of Freedom would be one of the summer’s biggest box office smash hits. To put things in perspective, this $15 million indie outgrossed The Flash, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in North America. Not bad for a movie that was initially dumped by Disney and distributed by a small, faith-based distributor called Angel Studios. Yet, while the success of an independently financed drama should be something that’s celebrated, Sound of Freedom‘s success has proven to be wildly controversial, with its critics slamming the film as being “QAnon adjacent” due to the movie’s star openly embracing many of the conspiracy theory’s beliefs. However, the makers of the movie say it’s apolitical, with the director recently slamming anyone trying to peg it as something it’s not.

Crispin Glover is one strange dude, but that’s what we love about him. First bursting onto the scene dancing his butt off in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, and hitting the big time playing Marty McFly’s nerdy father, George, in Back to the Future, Glover could have gone on to a perfectly serviceable career as an inoffensive character actor, but to say he had other ideas is putting things mildly. The very next year, 1986, featured Glover in two memorably eccentric supporting roles: opposite Sean Penn in At Close Range and the other opposite Keanu Reeves in the cult classic River’s Edge. In 1989, Glover did the impossible; he crossed Steven Spielberg when he refused to return for the Back to the Future sequels and even sued when they reused footage of him from the first film.

As far as 1990s and 2000s-era screen goddesses go, Denise Richards was probably the biggest of them all. From her role in Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers to her iconic turn in Wild Things, Denise Richards was a formative crush for many of us who came of age in that era, and the image of Richards emerging from a swimming pool in Wild Things was enough to make many teenage pulses flutter. In this episode of What Happened to this Celebrity, we take a look at Richards’ rise to fame, from early roles in low-budget fare such as Tammy & the T-Rex to her eventual breakthrough to her controversial casting as nuclear physicist Dr. Christmas Jones in the James Bond epic The World is Not Enough and beyond.

When Steve Spielberg’s The Goonies set sail in 1985, the world was unaware of the cast’s lasting appeal and power in the film industry. Featuring Hollywood legends like Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan, The Goonies feels like a rare Hollywood treasure any pioneering filmmaker would endure boobytraps to have created.
In today’s video, we’ll explore The Goonies cast, including the fascinating twists and career moves of Feldman, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, Joe Pantoliano, Robert Davi, and Anne Ramsey. Regardless of where they ended up, The Goonies cast helped create one of Hollywood’s most iconic coming-of-age adventures to explore the silver screen. The Goonies’ legacy and influence on films that follow in its footsteps cannot be understated. Many filmmakers cite the nostalgic thrill ride as inspiration for The Monster Squad, Stranger Things, Super 8, It, and many more.

Once upon a time being a nerd was looked at as a negative, with depictions of them being scrawny losers with glasses and high pitched voices who loved comic books and wouldn’t know how to throw a baseball unless Captain America taught them how. But something happened. Geek culture became mainstream culture and the people who brought it to us were the ones who once felt so alienated by their seemingly uncool passions. Enter Joss Whedon who used his childhood isolations to craft some of the biggest cult hit TV shows and penned many groundbreaking screenplays – everything from sci-fi to horror to action adventure to animation to Shakespeare and some of the biggest superhero flicks ever. But behind closed doors there seemed to be a different tale, a story of a man so consumed with ego that he made everyone else tremble in terror around him. It would seem...

In the early part of the 2000s, Terrence Howard was on the cusp of major stardom. He’d been around since the mid-nineties, stealing scenes in movies like Dead Presidents, Mr. Holland’s Opus and The Best Man (which spawned a legit franchise). But, it was his role in Paul Haggis’ Oscar-winner Crash that led to many saying he would be the next great actor of his generation. His role in the Sundance break-out Hustle & Flow was a sensation that nabbed him a (well-deserved) Oscar nomination, and he followed it up with excellent character work in Four Brothers, The Brave One, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, and more. But, his role as James Rhodes in Iron Man promised big things to come.
At the time, no one knew the film would kick off the MCU, and he was well-positioned, with his character slated to become War Machine in the sequel.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are an institution. From their debut on Full House, where both twins shared the role of Michelle Tanner (starting when they were only infants), the two sisters grew up never out of the public eye. While popular on the show, they parlayed their success to become a brand, launching a series of successful direct-to-video movies, followed by big-screen outings such as It Takes Two and New York Minute. But, what’s extra impressive about the twins is that, despite growing up under a microscope, the two seem to have always had an excellent sense for business, to the point that both are almost retired at this point, at the run old age of only thirty-six.
Neither Mary-Kate nor Ashley Olsen ever generated much controversy, with even tabloid coverage of the two rarely going beyond teenage hijinx. Their sister, Elizabeth Olsen, is famous for playing Scarlett Witch in the MCU movies,...

Aerosmith is arguably one of the most iconic rock bands of all time. Formed in Boston in 1970, the band has more than withstood the test of time, with them the biggest-selling American Hard rock band of all time, selling over 150 million records. From their early days, through their massive resurgence in the eighties and nineties, to today- people still love Aerosmith.
Fronted by Steven Tyler, with Joe Perry perhaps the most iconic “guitar player with mystique” ever, the band had a slew of iconic hits in the seventies, including “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion,” and “Walk This Way.” But, as with many iconic rock bands, drug addiction took an enormous toll, and by the time the early eighties rolled around, Aerosmith seemed to be on a collision course with obscurity. What followed was perhaps one of the greatest comebacks in rock history, with Aerosmith teaming up with Run Dmc for an...

Christopher Walken is one of a kind. No one else in Hollywood is quite like him, and for sure, no one else sounds like him. He’s a character actor who, in his later years, became so famous that, in some ways, he became a parody of himself even if he’s undoubtedly laughed his way to the bank. Indeed, despite being almost eighty, Walken is as busy as ever and shows no signs of slowing down.
Here’s the thing, though – when people do Walken impersonations or delight in his eccentricities, they tend to lose sight of the fact that in many of his roles, Walken is a pretty brilliant and versatile actor. If you know him most for his appearances on Saturday Night Live or in comedies, you owe it to yourself to learn more about the scope of his career, and that’s where this episode of...

As far as 1990s dreamgirls go, Heather Graham was at the top of the list for many of us. An ageless beauty who looks the same as she did twenty-five years ago, Graham has one of the most interesting careers of the era. Having started as the love interest in the Corey Haim/Corey Feldman teen cult classic Licence to Drive, she quickly established her serious acting chops in 1989’s Drugstore Cowboy. The movie helped launch her as an indie “It girl,” with her landing memorable roles on Twin Peaks (and the Fire Walk With Me movie), Six Degrees of Separation and more. She had a unique role as the object of Jon Favreau’s affections in Swingers but then hit the big time with her iconic part as Rollergirl in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights.

If you’re one of the many people who went to see Cocaine Bear recently in theaters, you might have been confused by the title card that suggested the film was based on a true story. Indeed, there was a real cocaine bear. On September 11th, 1985, a drug smuggler named Andrew C. Thornton II was flying a load of cocaine from Columbia to the states and was forced to ditch his load over Knoxville, Tennessee, when his plane went down. Thornton died after jumping from the plane when his parachute failed to open (although the film gives a much more fanciful interpretation of what might have happened). Overall, more than 75 pounds of cocaine, with a street value of $20 million, had been ditched, and when the authorities went looking for the load, they found a dead black bear who had ingested much of the cocaine. The bear’s stomach was apparently...

George Lucas is arguably the most influential filmmaker of our era. While some would suggest Martin Scorsese or Steven Spielberg and have a point, Star Wars changed the movie business in a way no other film did before or since. Spielberg and Scorsese have more impressive filmographies, but Star Wars is still the blockbuster all others are measured against.
In this episode of What Happened to this Celebrity, which is written (with Brad Hamerly), narrated, edited and produced by Taylor James Johnson, we dig into Lucas’ rich but sometimes divisive legacy. We tackle his early days, with him having a notable flop in Thx-1138 that perhaps pivoted him away from the esoteric, and his eventual arrival onto the Hollywood A-list with his classic American Graffiti. From there, we explain how Star Wars got made, why he opted not to direct the sequels, and how, in the nineties, he decided to...

Louis C.K. is one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time, but he’s also a widely controversial figure. Up until 2017, Ck would have been widely considered an icon, with amazing stand-up specials, movies and not one but two brilliant TV shows under his belt. While FX’s Louis brought him mainstream success, Ck was able to parlay that into a new sideline, making content directly for his audience that he could sell via his official website. One such project was the acclaimed Horace and Pete; indeed, Ck was, for a while, on top of the world.
Then, of course, allegations surfaced regarding the comedian’s sexual misconduct, which he admitted to, and overnight his career was seemingly in tatters. But, after taking some time off, Ck started appearing in comedy clubs again and reignited his stand-up career. His website, and the audience that was willing to buy content directly from him,...

Very few personalities in Hollywood are as controversial as Sean Penn. One of the most gifted actors of his generation, Penn’s also been a lightning rod for controversy, with his often antagonistic relationship with the press and sometimes misguided moves, such as his now infamous interview with drug baron El Chapo. Yet, he’s also a noted humanitarian, participating in rescue efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and being a tireless advocate for Haiti following the 2010 Earthquake. He’s also been an outspoken supporter of Ukrainian president Zelensky.

Jennifer Love Hewitt was one of the biggest teen stars of the nineties. First making a splash on Party of Five, she parlayed that success into a solid career in features, leading the teen horror slasher classic I Know What You Did Last Summer (as well as its less beloved sequel), the comedy cult classic Can’t Hardly Wait. Her fame carried over into the 2000s, with her showing impeccable comic timing in the underrated Heartbreakers opposite Sigourney Weaver, Gene Hackman, and the late Ray Lotta. She even teamed up with Jackie Chan in The Tuxedo. Has there ever been a better filmmaking duo than the Coen Bros? Joel and Ethan Coen have made some of the greatest modern films, hitting it out of the park with their 1983 debut Blood Simple. From there, the list of classics goes on and on. There’s Raising Arizona, Miller’s Crossing, Barton Fink, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, True Grit, O Brother Where Art Thou, A Serious Man, Inside Llewyn Davis – the list goes on and on. Yet, following the release of 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, this formerly inseparable duo split, with Joel directing The Tragedy of Macbeth and Ethan making the Jerry Lee Lewis documentary, Trouble in Mind. 1967’s Bonnie and Clyde is considered one of the seminal American films. Known for its provocative use of graphic violence, it helped bring U.S. films closer in line with what was being done in Europe and is one of the films responsible for the MPAA starting a new rating system. It was so controversial that for a while, its home studio, Warner Bros, deemed it unreleasable and initially dumped it in a regional release, only for the film to become a favorite of the sixties counterculture, leading to its eventual wide release. While eventually an iconic hit that launched Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway as superstars, not much attention has been paid over the years to how truthful it was about the two gangsters it idolizes, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. Were they romantic anti-heroes, as the film portrays them, or were they murderous bandits?

There was a time that Russell Brand was poised to be the next big comedy superstar. While already a controversial but well-known name in Britain, his role as rocker Aldous Snow in the Judd Apatow-produced Forgetting Sarah Marshall made him a star in North America. He was so popular that he got his own spin-off sequel, Get Him to the Greek, followed by an unsuccessful remake of Dudley Moore’s Arthur, which was critically reviled for stripping away the edge of the original. At this time, Brand, who was in danger of being best known for his personal life thanks to a high-profile marriage to Katy Perry, reinvented himself as a political activist and campaigner. His opinions have been controversial, particularly during the pandemic, but no one can deny that’s he a caring, careless campaigner, to the extent that his career took a backseat. Kanye West has always been a controversial figure. Still, just when we thought we saw it all, the admittedly brilliant rapper went way off the deep end several months ago, making repeated antisemitic statements, denying the Holocaust, hanging out with alleged white supremacists, and more. It got to the point where many believe the rapper ended his career, with him receiving widespread condemnation and losing many of his most valuable brand partnerships overnight.

In the late nineties, Freddie Prinze Jr was one of Hollywood’s most popular teen heartthrobs. The son of the late legendary comic Freddie Prinze, the actor burst onto the scene with a slew of teen movies that made big bucks at the box office, including the horror flick I Know What You Did Last Summer and the smash rom-com She’s All That. His efforts to branch out into action, with the doomed video game adaptation Wing Commander, fell flat, as did some of his less inspired rom-coms like Down to You, Boys and Girls and a few others. But, he also did a pretty decent teen drama called Summer Catch (opposite Jessica Biel) that showed some promise, and he had a significant hit with James Gunn’s Scooby Doo film in 2002. He also had a well-received turn on Friends as Ross and Rachel’s sensitive nanny, which proved...

Whenever the holiday season approaches, you can rely on one thing – but by the time New Year’s rolls around, you will have heard Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You” more times than you can count. In many ways, Carey has become the Queen of Christmas, but in recent years people seem to forget that before she started embracing the Christmas thing, Carey was one of the most successful recording stars of all time. While her recent singles haven’t been that successful, she’s been racking up number-one hits since 1990, when her first single, “Victim of Love,” rocketed to number one on the Billboard charts.
One thing worth noting is that Carey was always able to reinvent herself. In the early nineties, she was more of a pop princess. But, later in the nineties, she reinvented herself as a sex symbol/diva with some of her biggest hits,...

In the 1990s, Tim Allen was one of the biggest family comedy stars in the game. Beginning his career as a stand-up comic at the Comedy Store, his brand of family-friendly, relatable comedy made him stand out from his contemporaries. This led to ABC building a sitcom around him, Home Improvement. The show, where he played Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, became one of the biggest shows of the nineties, regularly ranking near the top of the Nielsen ratings. It wasn’t a critical darling, but families loved it, with Allen becoming a household name.
However, his career hit a turning point in 1994 when he signed on to star in Disney’s The Santa Clause, where he played an everyday businessman who becomes the heir apparent to Santa’s mantle. Bob Clark’s 1983 holiday classic, A Christmas Story, is one of the most beloved family films of all time. While not a blockbuster upon its initial release, the film immediately became a cult classic thanks to cable, and close to forty years later, it is so well-regarded that it still airs 24 hours a day on Christmas Eve on TBS. But what happened to the cast of A Christmas Story? Recently, fans had the chance to see many of them in the sequel, A Christmas Story Christmas, with some exceptions.
In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Celebrity, we take a look at what happened to the film’s talented cast. Notably, star Peter Billingsley, who was one of the most immediately recognizable kid actors of the eighties, and went on to significant success as a director and producer, being an executive producer on Iron Man and having directed Couples Retreat and more.

If you’re a hardcore Quentin Tarantino fan, you’ll know that Michael Madsen’s sadistic Vic Vega in Reservoir Dogs and John Travolta’s Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction are brothers. Despite both characters dying in their respective films, Quentin Tarantino toyed with the idea of spinning the characters off into a prequel movie for many years. Eventually, Travolta and Madsen likely aged out of the idea, given that they would have had to convincingly play younger than they did in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Still, the notion of a Vega Brothers movie is interesting.

Tim Burton is one of the greatest directors of our era. A former animator for Disney, his early shorts, Vincent and Frankenweenie, marked him as one of the most promising up-and-comers in the business. His first film, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, helped turn Paul Reubens’ Pee-Wee Herman into a household name. It would mark his first collaboration with composer Danny Elfman, who would remain one of his most frequent collaborators. His next film, Beetlejuice, was an even bigger hit, but when Burton was chosen to direct Batman and picked the star of Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton, to be his Caped Crusader, people were wary. However, the resulting film became one of the biggest hits of the eighties and changed the superhero film forever, with many still counting Keaton as the definitive Batman.

If you came of age in the late nineties/early 2000s, you knew Limp Bizkit. You may have loved them or hated them – they were that kind of band…but whatever the case, you for sure knew who they were. Led by frontman Fred Durst, they were the faces of mainstream Nu Metal at a time when the genre was taking off. The band definitely never got the respect of a band like Korn or Rage Against the Machine – for a good reason probably. While Rage was all about non-conformity, Limp Bizkit’s lyrics were more about breaking stuff (to the point that one of their best-known songs is literally called “Break Stuff”), which led to the band getting a lot of ire from critics and even within the industry. Who could ever forget the sight of Fred Durst accepting an MTV award while Rage’s Tim Commerford climbed the...

Tim Curry is a familiar and much-loved face if you’re a child of the eighties or nineties. First breaking out playing Dr. Frank N. Furter in the musical stage show The Rocky Horror Show, when it transitioned to the big screen, Curry was a natural to reprise his role. The resulting film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, was only a mild success, but a crazy cult sprang up around the movie that’s earned it a place in history. As it stands, it’s arguably the biggest cult film of all time, and it holds a record for the longest theatrical run of any movie, with it continually in theatrical release since its 1975 debut. Halloween revivals of the movie are a beloved tradition, and the film would not have it’s staying power were it not for Curry’s showstopping turn.

Ford v Ferrari was a surprise hit in the fall of 2019. At the time, many assumed that big-budget, adult-skewing dramas were bound to underperform, but James Mangold’s film rode a way of outstanding reviews and good buzz to a hefty 225 million worldwide gross. It earned a best picture Academy Award nomination, and has become a streaming staple, paving the way for Mangold to be chosen as Steven Spielberg’s successor for Indiana Jones 5.

Gwyneth Paltrow was one of the most iconic stars of the nineties. She was the original “It Girl,” with her a familiar sight on magazine covers and shows like Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight, which celebrated her pairing with the “It Guy” of the moment, Brad Pitt. It’s easy to see why she captured the public’s imagination, delivering a slew of solid performances in some of the most iconic indie flicks of the nineties. From playing Brad Pitt’s doomed wife in Se7en to sporting an English accent in the hip Jane Austen adaptation Emma to winning an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love, people were obsessed with Paltrow.
In recent years, Paltrow’s taken a bit of a step back from acting, but not before winning a whole new generation of fans as Pepper Potts in the MCU’s Iron Man. These days, she’s known more for...

Of all the actors who employ the “method acting” technique, none is more famous (or infamous) than the great Daniel Day-Lewis. In a surprising move, Day-Lewis, at the height of his popularity, opted to retire from acting following the completion of his film with Paul Thomas Anderson, The Phantom Thread. Many figured Day-Lewis was saying this as the result of a long and taxing shoot, but in the years since, it’s appeared that the actor has stuck to his guns, not appearing in a film since. Is this the end of Daniel Day-Lewis’ screen career? Wtf Happened?
In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Celebrity, we examine Daniel Day-Lewis’ legendary run, from his early triumph in My Left Foot to his North American breakthrough in a run of modern classics that include In the Name of the Father and Michael Mann’s The Last of the Mohicans. Interestingly,...

First things first – we love Arnold Schwarzenegger. For pretty much all of us here at the site, Arnie was our hero growing up, and while his hardcore action movie days may be behind him, we still love the guy. His is one of the great American success stories, where an immigrant from Austria could become a champion businessman and weightlifter, and perhaps the biggest movie star in the world (for a time) and then, eventually, even the governor of California!
In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Celebrity, we chart Arnie’s wild ride, from his early days in Pumping Iron to his breakthrough in Conan the Barbarian and his eventual career-defining role as the T-800 in The Terminator. We reflect on how Twins somewhat changed the public perception of him, resulting in a much nicer version of the T-800 in the landmark James Cameron sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

If you were a kid in the eighties, you wanted to be part of The Monster Squad. While a box office dud that made under 4 million dollars at the box office, once this tween classic hit HBO and VHS, its cult status grew. Directed by Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps), who co-wrote with the legendary Shane Black, The Monster Squad revolves around a group of horror-obsessed boys who come face to face with a gaggle of classic monsters, led by the evil Count Dracula (Duncan Regehr). Now they have to battle Dracula, The Mummy, the Gil-Man and the Wolfman while getting help from a descendent of Van Helsing and the surprisingly gentle Frankenstein’s monster (Tom Noonan – in a performance that tugs at the heartstrings).
In the years following The Monster Squad’s release, the kids from the film went on to varied careers before reuniting after the movie...

Ok, so technically, we’re cheating a bit as the Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace isn’t technically “unmade.” In fact, the movie was pretty close to complete, with only the VFX and score needed, although reshoots and more were scheduled before the film could have been ever really called complete. Yet, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s movie was scrapped and in this episode of Wtf Happened to this Unmade Movie; we try to give our audience an idea of…well…Wtf happened, along with a look at different versions of the movie that could have gotten made in the past.
Indeed, at one time, there were plans to spin Batman and Robin’s Batgirl, Alicia Silverstone, into her own film, which fell apart after that movie’s disastrous reception. There was also a Joss Whedon version of the property, which came pretty close to happening, but in the end,...

It’s no stretch to say that popular music as we know it now would be very different were it not for Paul McCartney. So, we’re pretty sure many of you reading and watching this will say, Wtf Happened to Paul McCartney? Nothing – he’s still awesome. And indeed he is, with him even recently rocking up a storm with the Foo Fighters on-stage for their recent tribute to Taylor Hawkins. Despite pushing eighty, McCartney is still a force. Still, here at JoBlo Originals, in addition to being movie fans, we’re also music fans, so just like when we wrote about Clint Eastwood, forgive us our indulgence as we dig into the career of one of the greatest musicians of all time.
In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Celebrity, which is written (with Brad Hamerly), narrated, edited and produced by Taylor James Johnson, we examine the scope of his career.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Julia Roberts was one of the dominant Hollywood stars for a good twenty-year period. From her breakout role in 1988’s Mystic Pizza, Roberts skyrocketed to the top of the A-list when she starred opposite Richard Gere in Garry Marshall’s Pretty Woman. An unlikely Cinderella story about an escort that falls in love with a high-powered executive, it’s a movie that is definitely a Hollywood fairytale, but one that a lot of people loved in 1990, with it being one of the year’s top-grossing movies. From there, Roberts made a string of hits, including Flatliners, The Pelican Brief, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Notting Hill and many more, but respect in more heavy vehicles eluded her. Movies like Mary Reilly and Michael Collins were embarrassing for how miscast she was, and for awhile, it looked like she would be stuck doing...

David O. Russell’s The Fighter is arguably the director’s most acclaimed movie (certain more so than the recent Amsterdam). It tells the true story of boxer Mickey Ward and his older brother, Dicky Eklund, played by Mark Wahlberg and (in an Oscar-winning performance) Christian Bale. While based on a true story, you might very well be surprised by how many liberties were taken with some of the micro-and-macro details in the film while still honoring the overall legacy of the scrappy Lowell underdog and his embattled, drug-addled half-brother Dickie Eklund. To be clear up-front, most of what transpires in The Fighter genuinely occurred in how it’s depicted onscreen, with incredible efforts made to recreate the precise in-ring action as it truly happened.
However, in the interest of time and to increase the riveting dramatic stakes of Ward as a true underdog, O. Russell altered several details regarding fighters,...

Robert Zemeckis was one of the most prominent directors of the eighties and nineties. His string of hits is almost unmatched. Think about it – Romancing the Stone, the Back to the Future Trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, What Lies Beneath, etc. This is why it’s so bizarre that a live-action Disney Pinocchio movie directed by Zemeckis and starring his best favorite leading man, Tom Hanks, was essentially dumped to streaming. It came and went without much fanfare, while it would have been a cinematic event fifteen years ago. Wtf Happened?
In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Celebrity, we dig into Zemeckis’ career, which began with the underrated pair I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Used Cars before Romancing the Stone made him an A-lister. We dig into how he was actually fired from Cocoon because the Fox brass thought Romancing the Stone would flop,...

Billy Bob Thornton is an unlikely but enduring movie star. He blasted onto the scene as a character actor in movies like One False Move and Tombstone before his 1996 passion project, Sling Blade, earned him a best screenplay Academy Award while also netting him a Best Actor nomination. Made for just over 1 million, it was a solid box office hit, grossing 30 times its budget, and from there, Thornton’s career went into high gear. While his directorial career went on the back-burner after Harvey Weinstein cut his Cormac McCarthy adaptation, All the Pretty Horses, to shreds, his acting career was white-hot, earning a best-supporting actor nomination for Sam Raimi’s A Simple Plan and leading movies such as Monster’s Ball, Friday Night Lights, The Man Who Wasn’t There, and netting high profile supporting roles in Armageddon, Primary Colors, Bandits, Love Actually and so many more.

There was a time that Ozzy Osbourne was considered the most wildly unpredictable, dangerous man in heavy metal. This was the guy that bit the head off a live bat during a concert in 1982, drank Vince Neil’s urine and snorted a line of ants like cocaine amid a bender. The former Black Sabbath front-man was a legend, to the point that many of us, as kids, weren’t allowed to listen to his music or – God Forbid – watch his music videos.
But here’s the thing – Ozzy mellowed. First, in the late eighties/early nineties, he became more of a conventional metal guy with his killer album, No More Tears, but that was nothing compared to how, in the early 2000s, he became an unlikely pioneer of reality TV. His MTV show, The Osbournes, introduced us to his loving family, including his brilliant wife Sharon (responsible for much of...

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk ranks as one of the director’s most ambitious movies. An immersive war epic, the film depicts the Evacuation of Dunkirk from the perspective of the soldiers on the beach, the Allied High Command, the volunteer sailors helping to evacuate the troops, and from the air via the heroic pilots giving the soldiers cover. The film has very little in the way of dialogue, with a script that only runs seventy-six pages. In this episode of Wtf Really Happened to this Movie, we try to put together how historically accurate Christopher Nolan’s account of the Evacuation of Dunkirk is, exploring what, if any, historical liberties were taken by the famously dedicated director.
Notably, the film is among Nolan’s shortest movies subverting audience expectations at every turn. Rather than try for a large-scale historical drama, Nolan opts to put you right in the shoes of a handful of characters.

Megan Fox was the “It Girl” of the second half of the 2000s. When she showed up as the love interest in Michael Bay’s Transformers, she quickly became one of the most desired women on the planet, but Hollywood didn’t quite seem sure what to do with her for the longest time. While Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was a hit, she was famously written out of the third film. Her roles in movies like Jonah Hex fell flat, while her big star vehicle, Jennifer’s Body, was a flop – albeit one that’s been reappraised recently.
While a lot was made over the fact that she compared her Transformers director, Michael Bay, to Hitler, there seems to be no love lost between the two, with him casting her in his two big-budget Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies as April O’Neil. They failed to launch an enduring franchise,...
