It looks like Millennium Films’ feature film adaptation of Red Sonja is back on track. The production company has hired the creator of Amazon’sTransparent, Jill Soloway, to write and direct the film. She will replace Bryan Singer who was fired after several serious sexual misconduct allegations were made against him.
I never thought that Singer was the right filmmaking to take on Red Sonja, but I have no idea if Soloway is the right person to take it on either. I’m not really familiar with any of her recent work, but I liked what she did on Six Feet Under. So, I guess we’ll have to wait and see how she handles the character and story.
When talking about Soloway being hired, THR says, “Hiring Soloway is in some ways a coup for the project, whose character sometimes found herself in the trappings of adolescent fantasy clichés...

After the success of Wonder Woman, Millennium Films was excited about moving forward with their feature film adaptation of Robert E. Howard's Red Sonja. The production company has now hired screenwriter Ashley Edward Miller to write the screenplay. Miller has worked on projects such as Thor, X-Men: First Class, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and the upcoming remake of Big Trouble in Little China.
Red Sonja made her comic debut in Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian #23 back in 1975 from writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith. She was loosely based on Red Sonya of Rogatino in Robert E. Howard's 1934 short story "The Shadow of the Vulture."
Red Sonja is the greatest swordswoman of the Hyborean Age and more than a match for any man in combat. She has become the archetypal example of the strikingly beautiful warrior woman clad in her iconic bikini-like armor. I've been a fan of this character for years,...

It looks like another big screen adaptation of Robert E. Howard's Red Sonja is going into development. Hollywood has been trying to get a new Red Sonja film off the ground for years.
Robert Rodriguez was attached to develop a movie based on the badass female warrior at one point with Rose McGowan, then Simon West was going to take it on with Amber Heard in the lead role. Later on, Christopher Cosmos (Game of Thrones) was hired to write a new script. The last I heard about the film, came last year when X-Men director Bryan Singer was reportedly developing it.
With the current popularity of Wonder Woman, it's not surprising that someone would want to get rolling on the Red Sonja feature film. According to Deadline, Millennium Media will finance and produce the film. They also say that the production company is putting the project on the...

I’ve been a fan of Red Sonja for a long time, and I’ve been waiting to see the character get a new live action adaptation for years. Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in a Red Sonja film back in 1985, and there have been plans for a new film since 2008. At that time Robert Rodriguez was attached to develop it with Rose McGowan, then Simon West was going to take it on with Amber Heard in the lead role. The last year I heard, Christopher Cosmos (Game of Thrones) was hired to write a new script. There’s been no news on the project since.

From The Craft and The Birds to The Fugitive and She's All That, the many film reboots and remakes currently in the works...
Over the years that Den Of Geek has been going, we've regularly been charting the assortment of reboots and remakes that are making their way through the Hollywood system. This, then, is the current state of play. We've removed a bunch of projects that seem utterly dead - the once mooted remakes of Videodrome and Timecrimes, for instance - but we'll keep this list up to date as and when we hear of more.
Without further ado, here's what's coming up...
Akira

As much as I want to support Elizabeth Banks' endeavors jumping behind the camera, between her non-distinctive touch to Pitch Perfect 2 to her equally unremarkable short in Movie 43, I can't quite say I'm a fan of what she's brought to the table thus far. But I like to think of myself as a pretty open-minded guy, and maybe she can turn my opinion with what looks to be her sophomore feature, an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's Ya novel "Red Queen". Banks currently is in negotiations to helm the project for Universal, called a mix between "Game of Thrones," X-Men, Cinderella and her own Hunger Games. This would be a much bigger production than the $29 million budgeted one she spearheaded before, but based on her sequel's impressive box office numbers (they've already greenlit Pitch Perfect 3 as well), she's likely got enough clout to get herself in the door.

From Wonder Woman to Red Sonja, here are the female comic book projects that we’ve missed out on…
Although Supergirl, Catwoman and Elektra are movies that exist, there are times when we wish they didn’t. To be honest, the ‘perfect’ female-headlined superhero movie is still the stuff of our cinematic dreams. Saying that, TV’s Agent Carter provided us with a brilliant example of bringing a female comic book character to the small screen earlier this year, which hopefully Hollywood will learn a lot from going forward.
Of course, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel will be joining their respective cinematic universes soon, with Supergirl getting a pop at small screen success too. It looks like female comic book heroes will be getting the attention they deserve in the live action realm, finally.
This isn’t the first time the powers-that-be in Hollywood have tried to launch a slate of female superheroes,...

Exclusive: Universal Pictures has optioned Red Queen, a novel by 22-year-old author Victoria Aveyard. Benderspink and Pouya Shazbazian are producing, and Christopher Cosmos producing in some capacity. The first in a trilogy, Red Queen is set in a fantasy world where society is divided by the color of blood. It features a 17 year old girl who, to save her family, must assume the role of a long-lost princess while secretly aiding a revolution; her actions put into motion a deadly and violent dance, pitting prince against prince and her against her own heart. It is pitched as Divergent meets Game Of Thrones. Aveyard graduated from USC’s undergraduate screenwriting program last year and had a general meeting with Benderspink at the USC pitchfest. They suggested she writer her idea as a book. Benderspink has worked closely with New York-based New Leaf Literary & Media and its head of film and TV,...

Management/production companies looking for the next sale-able script, it might be right under your nose. Benderspink director of development Christopher Cosmos just sold his first feature script, The Fall, to Bill Block’s Qed International. Benderspink will be attached as a producer, and the company now packaging Alexander, a TV pilot Cosmos wrote about the formative years of Alexander The Great. The Fall is a modern take on The Odyssey, about a young man who makes his way cross country carrying with him the cure for a devastating plague. He’s hunted by men who want the cure for himself.
