Chicago – Most former kids can agree that junior high is pure hell. It’s the dividing line between the carefree bliss of elementary school and the budding maturity of high school. Suddenly kids are faced with a decision: either assert their dominance over the weakest of their peers or risk joining them. Become a bully or be bullied. Neither option is enticing.
Jeff Kinney’s “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book series connected with young readers who related to its awkward protagonist, Greg Heffley, whose misadventures were conveyed through a cheerful amalgamation of journal entries, illustrations and comics. The film adaptations, however, have been more interested in capturing Kinney’s broadly comic sensibility rather than his nuggets of truth. Instead of illuminating the humanity within Kinney’s caricatures, the films exploit their quirks in nauseatingly cynical fashion.
Blu-ray Rating: 1.5/5.0
What laughs are there to be gleaned from a fat kid...

The kiddie movie brought in the bucks. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules premiered in the Number One spot at the box office this weekend with $24.4 Million. Sucker Punch premiered in Second Place with $19 Million. Director Zack Snyder has to be disappointed with that opening. That box office take doesn’t count its international revenue so the film may not bomb. Limitless was Third with $15.2 Million. The Lincoln Lawyer was Fourth with $11 Million. Rango was Fifth with $9.8 Million for $106.3 Million so far. Battle: Los Angeles, Paul, Red Riding Hood, The Adjustment Bureau, and Mars Needs Moms rounded out the top ten respectively.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is a 2011 American comedy film based on the book of the same name. Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Devon Bostick, Rachael Harris, Steve Zahn, Connor Fielding, Owen Fielding, Karan Brar, Laine MacNeil, and Grayson Russell all are reprising their roles from the first film.

Title: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules Director: David Bowers Starring: Zachary Gordon, Devon Bostick, Rachael Harris, Robert Capron, Peyton List, Steve Zahn, Laine MacNeil, Karan Brar When Diary of a Wimpy Kid hit theaters last March, who’d have thought we’d have a sequel just a year later? Well, good thing producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson were on top of their stuff because Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is here and it packs just as much fun and charm as the original. Summer’s over and it’s time for Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) to head back to school. Sure things are better with his upgraded seventh grader status and he isn’t [...]...

How does one say anything bad about Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Like this...It was charming but tiresome. Perhaps that is the expectation though, since the plot revolves around a kid starting middle school. The flick is delivered as a straight-up comedy and somehow managed to get rated PG. Most of the 90 minutes in this piece is harmless, save for a scene that involves a kid peeing on his older brother.
What's tough to figure out is if this was intended for the high school and up audience. Or is this for the kids? Probably a little bit of both, and that is why this may not entertain certain groups the whole way through. The best way to review this flick is using the old weapon of comparisons with other films. Well get to that in a moment.
