[Warning: The following contains details about the non-fiction book on which Starz’s Mary & George is based.] History gets a re-write in The King’s Assassin: The Fatal Affair of George Villiers and James I. The non-fiction book, written by Benjamin Woolley, is the basis of Starz‘s sexy period drama Mary & George and examines evidence suggesting that George Villiers really did kill King James I like his enemies accused after the Scottish king’s death in March 1625. Will Mary & George end the same way? Here’s what the book tells us about how the Starz drama could potentially conclude. George Villiers, with the help of his mother Mary, pulled off a meteoric rise when connecting himself with King James I in 1615. James was so enraptured with George that he publicly expressed his desire for George to be his “wife.” For the decade that followed, George was always by James’ side whether it be matters of court, ...

Many of the current generation of Asian and Pacific Islander writers working in television today came up through the Cape New Writers Fellowship, one of the most successful entry-level programs in the industry.
Now, the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment is expanding its focus to the other end of the pipeline. The Cape Showrunners Incubator, powered by Starz’s #TakeTheLead diversity initiative for its inaugural year, will draw upon the nonprofit’s experience in talent development to give upper-level Api TV scribes the mentorship and other resources they need to break through that final ceiling.

50 Cent made as big of a splash in the television industry as he did with music thanks to his Power franchise. But the television series he had planned after Power might surprise some fans.
50 Cent had his sights set on making his own superhero show 50 Cent | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
50 Cent spent years planning to enter the space of television before finally making his move with Power. The hip-hop mogul teamed with producer Courtney Kemp to bring the series to life, which drew inspiration from his own background. His networking with a well-known Hollywood producer also helped put the wheels in motion for the show.
Power grew to be the Starz network’s flagship show, spawning an entire cinematic universe in its own right. But after the success of Power, 50 Cent considered taking over the world of superheroes as well. According to Entertainment Weekly, he’d even given his new show a title.

Nick Tarabay to star in ‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’ (Photo Credit: Starz)
In February 2023, prior to the huge writers and actors strikes, Starz announced their plans to revisit the world of Spartacus. Now that the dust has (basically) settled on both strikes, Starz revealed the new Spartacus chapter will be called Spartacus: House of Ashur and that Nick Tarabay is reprising his role as Ashur.
Tarabay played the villainous character in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
Spartacus creator, writer, and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight returns to guide the new 10-episode season as showrunner. “To be afforded the opportunity to return a decade later to a series you loved is such a rare, wonderful opportunity,” said Steven S. DeKnight. “I could not be more excited to craft this next chapter in the Spartacus saga with Starz, Lionsgate, and the incomparable Nick Tarabay.”
Starz’s journey...

Starz has handed an eight-episode series order to thriller drama The Hunting Wives. The project, based on the novel by May Cobb, is executive produced by Cobb, Hightown creator Rebecca Cutter, who wrote the adaptation and will serve as showrunner, and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Erwin Stoff. Lionsgate Television produces with 3 Arts.
This marks Starz’s first new series pickup since the end of the writers strike. Last week, the network canceled sophomore shows Heels, Run The World and Blindspotting and opted not to move forward with The Venery of Samantha Bird which had paused production in May due to the strike with two episodes left to film. The Hunting Wives joins another female-centered upcoming series Starz has in the wings, Three Women, as the network is tweaking its programming slate built around the hit Power and Outlander franchises.

There are some big changes at Starz, and it's bad news for four shows.
Variety reported Monday evening that the premium cabler has canceled Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting and is scrapping The Venery of Samantha Bird ahead of its premiere.
Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting lasted for two seasons on the premium cabler, but it seems that the trio didn't have enough interest to sustain additional seasons.
The highest profile of the three shows was Heels, which starred Stephen Amell as Jack Spade, a man who inherited the league from his father.
However, he struggled to keep things running well, leading to plenty of drama across the two seasons.
The cast also included Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, and Trey Tucker.
Rounding out the cast were Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton Garcia, David James Elliott, Joel Murray, and Cm Punk.

This was the year that San Diego Comic-Con was supposed to collapse. After all, with Hollywood studios pulling out and stars not able to promote their work, all due to the double whammy of the actors and writers strikes, why would people even bother to attend?
Well, about 150,000 attendees did, indeed, show up. There were no mass hotel cancellations nor mass refunds issued for badges, which were purchased months in advance. And an interesting thing happened on the way to the Comic-Con apocalypse. There was a renewed focus on comics and other graphic arts, even as Hollywood showed up in a diminished capacity.
“This year, more than ever, it felt like the real focus was the talent behind the origins of a lot of their entertainment,” says Jimmy Palmiotti, a writer-artist who has worked for Marvel and DC and created the comic Painkiller Jane, which was adapted into a SyFy series in 2007.

Minx was always a show that deserved more time.
When Max chose to cancel the series after an engaging and creative Season 1, fans were naturally annoyed because the series had only scratched the surface of the story it was telling.
Luckily, Starz swooped in to save the day and resurrect Minx from the cancelation bin. And thus, we got Minx Season 2 Episode 1 to devour and set us up for another trip back to the '70s.
One of the best things Minx decided to do upon its return was not drag out the inevitable, which was getting the whole band back together.
Quite some time had passed since Doug let Minx go, and everyone struggled a bit. None more than Doug, though, who was working overtime to keep Bottom Dollar alive.
If there is one man you want in a crisis, it's probably Doug because he's a pretty damn smooth operator.

“Joyce Prigger: World’s First Billionaire Pornographer,” reads a marquee at the top of Minx‘s Season 2 premiere. Sure, sex sells, but that seems a mite fast, no — especially given the way things stood at the close of Season 1?
As it turns out, yes. The signage, as well as a fur-clad Joyce working the red carpet at a film premiere, is part of a nightmare Doug is having at the start of the series’ sophomore run. (A run, by the way, that might not have happened had Starz not swooped in to revive the comedy after HBO Max killed it.

Hailey Kilgore is finally ready for her leading-lady moment. After scoring breakthrough roles in the Aretha Franklin biopic "Respect" and Starz's "Power Book III: Raising Kanan," the 24-year-old actor and singer is commanding attention on the big screen as the star of "Cinnamon." The Tubi Blaxploitation-inspired thriller, written and directed by Bryian Keith Montgomery Jr., features Kilgore as Jodi, whose aspirations resemble the actor's own as a singer who dreams of chart-topping success. The film - which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival - marks Kilgore's first time anchoring a movie project, which she admittedly tells Popsugar is something she's yearned to do for a while but "never really had the full confidence" to pursue.
"I never felt worthy enough to do it," she shares, adding that her belief was mainly fueled by being a "young Black woman in an industry where [I'm overlooked] if I don't fit a very specific thing.

Showtime recently teased that the Billions universe will expand with a plethora of spinoffs, but the main series is coming to an end.
Dan Soder, who has been with the show since the beginning, revealed the surprising fate of the hit drama over the weekend during an appearance on NBC Sports Chicago's Football Night in Chicago.
"Season 7, the final season of Billions, is on its way," Soder said during the telecast, adding:
"Am I not supposed to say that? I don't know if I'm supposed to say that."
"It doesn't matter. You just said it," Mike Berman responded.
Soder replied, "It's the final season."
Showtime has yet to confirm the news, but Soder's announcement isn't that surprising.
It was recently reported that Damian Lewis would return for an arc on Billions Season 7, which could be to wrap up Axe's journey on-screen.
"Bobby's back," Lewis told Stephen Colbert last month.

Power was absolutely thrilling to fans when it aired for six seasons on Starz. The show followed James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a drug kingpin determined to go legit. However, this past, familial expectations and his actions continued to drag him further into the drug game until there was no escape. Though Ghost died in Power, fans have been adamant about seeing the character on screen again.
Now, there could be a way for Hardwick to reprise the role.

It’s offiicial. Starz has picked up the 10-episode drama series Three Women, starring Shailene Woodley, following its release by Showtime. As we previously reported, the premium cabler had been in negotiations to pick up the series, adapted by Lisa Taddeo from her nonfiction bestseller of the same name.
As Deadline reported exclusively last month, the producers of Three Women, starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy, had been quietly shopping the completed first season of the series after Showtime opted not to proceed with it as part of an ongoing slate reevaluation ahead of its integration into Paramount+.
“We are proud to welcome Three Women to the Starz family,” said Alison Hoffman, President, Domestic Networks, Starz. “The show is anchored by such remarkable talent both in front of and behind the camera and aligns perfectly with our commitment to telling stories by, for and about women.

Starz has picked up “Three Women,” a 10-episode drama based on author Lisa Taddeo’s New York Times best-selling book of the same name, after it was dropped by Showtime.
“We are proud to welcome ‘Three Women’ to the Starz family,” Starz domestic networks president Alison Hoffman said in a statement. “The show is anchored by such remarkable talent both in front of and behind the camera and aligns perfectly with our commitment to telling stories by, for and about women.”
In addition to creating the series, Taddeo wrote the show’s pilot episode.
“We set out to make a bluntly beautiful show about the way that women want and suffer and thrill, the way they make love and take love,” Taddeo said in a statement. “That Starz will be the home for ‘Three Women’ is not merely right and perfect, but also a force of auspicious change. I cannot...

Outlander is popular for several reasons. For starters, it has excellent storytelling, detailing the life of a woman caught between two time periods. Additionally, the costuming is at par with the respective time periods and the acting is stellar. One of the show’s highlights is in the first season when Caitríona Balfe’s character Claire got married in a massive wedding dress. As it turns out, the gorgeous dress was so big that it needed its own car.

Outlander begins in 1945 when a former WWII nurse visits Inverness, Scotland with her husband who is looking into his family history. The woman, Claire Randall, touches one of the standing stones at Craigh na Dun and is accidentally transported back in time to 1743 where she meets Jamie Fraser.

Grammy award-winning artists 2 Chainz (“The Enforcer”) and Ne-Yo have signed on to join Season 3 of Starz’s gritty drama “Bmf” in recurring roles.
They join an impressive guest star roster that has previously included Eminem, Serayah, Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee and Snoop Dogg.
2 Chainz will play Stacks, an Atlanta-born distributor whose wisdom and stature command respect wherever he goes. “Fiercely loyal and determined to provide for his family no matter the cost, Stacks lives by the street code and challenges Meech’s leadership style,” as Starz describes him.
Ne-Yo will play Rodney “Greeny” Green, a local Atlanta player whose main focus is making money. While he oozes swagger and an entrepreneurial spirit, Greeny has more to him that lies beneath the surface.
“Bmf” is a dramatic retelling of how brothers “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi) conquered the streets of Detroit in the ’80s and formed the Black Mafia Family,...
