A number of readers sent this to us this morning and we wanted to share it with everyone else. Here’s a look at an animated version of The Walking Dead cast put together by DeviantArt member Miranda Areli using characters from a number of animated films.
How do you think she did? Any suggestions for the characters she missed? With The Walking Dead continuing to grow in popularity, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some kind of animated version down the line, so this might not be too far off.
For those interested in knowing what characters/movies Miranda used to put this together, here’s the full list she provided:
Daryl: Sinbad Andrea: Helga Glenn: Mulan Rick: John Rolfe Maggie: Anastasia Shane: Tulio Carol: The Dowager Empress Marie Carl: Jim Hawkins Lori: Kayley T-Dog: Dr.Sweet Sophia: Jane Dale: Vladimir Hershel: Dymas Beth: Arista...

Pirates. Buccaneers. Charismatic Criminals of the Seven Seas. The wind in your hair, the wheel in your hand and the salt on your face. The Ultimate Freedom. It’s no wonder we’re all fascinated with pirates, they fly in the face of authority, they don’t have to worry about NHS cuts and they get to wear really nice hats! We all say we want to be a pirate but who’d really want to be scrubbing decks all day, making fast the mainsail or sitting in a crow’s nest? We don’t want to be pirates, we want to be Pirate Captains because for the last 60 years we’ve been watching them on screen swagger and bluster their way through films. Sadly most of us aren’t up to this job as we’re not as charismatic, drunk or ruthless as they are so today I’m...

Yo ho thar mateys, there be yet anudder adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson.s Treasure Island. This one be mini-series length. It be helped that the novel arrr in the public domain. This one sports a .as appeared on SyFy. sticker on the front which usually be the kiss of death, but it turns out to be more shipshape than SyFy Mega-Long John Silver vs. Jim Hawkins-asaurus. The recent widow Meg Hawkins (Shirley Henderson) and her son Jim (Toby Regbo) have inherited the floundering Admiral Benbow Inn. Things seem lost until they run aside of Billy Bones (David Harewood) who takes up residence in the Inn and injects some money into it. Their tenant is more than a hassle...

A Separation (Sony) This drama from Iran won the 2011 Best Foreign Film Oscar, telling the story of a couple who file for a legal separation, with the wife pushing for a divorce. He won’t leave his Alzheimer’s-afflicted father behind, while she is wanting to take their young daughter with her to the United States. After a series of misunderstandings, threats and legal actions, the couple find that there is more than just their marriage that’s on the line. Hyper-realistic to a fault, reminiscent of the neo-realist films that came out of post-ww II Europe, but also repressive and redundant in the extreme, with the characters seeming to throw the same temper tantrum for two hours straight while the story, meanwhile, seems stalled. Wildly overpraised film is a real litmus test, with viewers seeming to be staunch defenders or equally impassioned detractors. It did win an Oscar,...

Leave it to Disney to come up with a way to update Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale Treasure Island into a science fiction epic. The studio that brought you the unforgettable live-action film version returned to the source material once again with the idea of taking the adventure into deep space and to other worlds. Unfortunately, moviegoers weren't interested in Treasure Planet when it came out in 2002. The film underperformed at the box office but was still nominated for a 2002 Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Feature.

Elijah Wood is well used to taking part in screen adaptations of books that readers hold dear to their hearts. One of the most distinctive faces of Lord of the Rings, he's taken on Frodo duties once more in The Hobbit, currently being filmed in New Zealand.

In the meantime, he's taken on the role of Ben Gunn in the TV adaptation of Treasure Island, alongside a luminary cast led by Eddie Izzard, Donald Sutherland and Rupert Penry-Jones. Here, he talks about getting back into a tunic, desert island luxuries, and a bit more gossip on The Hobbit...

Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, Snatch) has signed on to direct a big screen version of Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate tale "Treasure Island" for Warner Bros. Alex Harakis has been hired to write the script. The project was originally set up by Lionel Wigram, who eventually partnered with Ritchie and went on to develop "Sherlock Holmes" for the studio. The plan now is to do the same thing with "Treasure Island." When the project was first announced, the idea was to turn the 19th century tale into a modern-day story, while also playing up the relationship between Long John Silver and narrator Jim Hawkins.

Guy Ritchie, currently on the hook to adapt “The Man from Uncle” for Warner Bros., has now added a remake of “Treasure Island” to his plate — also for Warner Bros. This would be the fourth film in a row that Ritchie has made for Warner, counting his two “Sherlock Holmes” movie. Warner’s version of “Treasure Island” originally had “Bourne” director Paul Greengrass attached to direct, but he’s apparently left the project, and Ritchie has taken over. Boarding the novel means Ritchie will be re-teaming once again with his “Sherlock Holmes” producer Lionel Wigram, who came up with the idea for a contemporary version of Holmes, and now, “Treasure Island”. Written by the Scotsman Robert Louis Stevenson, the original “Treasure Island” novel followed the adventures of an innkeeper’s son name Jim Hawkins, who finds himself in possession of a feared pirate’s treasure map. On his way to...

As we have been telling you, there is a new Treasure Island ahead for us this Saturday on Syfy, who is showing the four-hour miniseries all in one night. More about that below. Treasure Island: First Look at the Syfy Adaptation
Treasure Island is one of those novels that everybody has read by a certain age and whose story gets parodied/retold to this day. The latest retelling comes in the form of a two-part, one night event on Syfy, thanks to the minds behind Neverland and Tin Man
With a story seemingly as old as time, the focus goes from plot/character to casting, since there are only so many ways to interpret the source material. In the upcoming adaptation's case, they went toward versatile actors that could have a little fun with the material. Eddie Izzard stars as morally ambiguous quartersmith Long John Silver, the antagonist of the novel and one of the more colorful characters, to boot. Joining him are Elijah Wood as the half-sane Ben Gunn and Donald Sutherland as Captain Flint of the Walrus. Portraying Young Jim Hawkins,...

There's a scene at the beginning of the movie "Head," where the 60s TV pop group, The Monkees, find themselves jumping off a bridge into the sea. There, the water promptly turns a random assortment of neon orange, green and blue. They are then transported into a room, where each member ends up face-to-face with a beautiful woman who begins to kiss them. It is one of the (relatively) normal moments from the psychedelic flick, written by Jack Nicholson and directed by Bob Rafelson. On Wednesday, the Monkees' lead singer Davy Jones passed away from a heart attack at the age of 66. Although Jones is mainly known for his musical and TV contributions to pop culture (the Monkees began through a television series), his acting chops lead him to several moments on the big screen. "Head" was the first time Jones starred in a feature film. The project, which was conceived by Nicholson,...

Walt Disney and the word “simple” don’t go together. Disney and the concept of simplicity don’t go together, either. This isn’t to say that some attractions at the various Disney theme parks aren’t simple in their design or their impact, or that some classic Disney movies don’t have simple story structures or character development. No, this means that while Walt Disney was able to tap into the inner recesses of people’s psyches for maximum effect, something that may seem simple, he rarely created something that didn’t have some complex thought placed behind it. So there is–I hope–some complex idea behind the first fully live-action film from Walt Disney Productions, 1950′s Treasure Island. I just don’t know what it is.
