Massacre this, massacre that… Thanks to the infamy of Tobe Hooper’s now-classic 70s exploitation shocker The Texas Chainsaw Massacre it seems that we can’t escape a horrifying cinematic massacre… The latest film to share this horror moniker is The Windmill Massacre – an odd title, and an even odder location for a horror movie. But, to steal a much-maligned English idiom, don’t judge a book by its cover. Or in this case, a film by it’s title.
The Windmill Massacre tells the story of Jennifer, an Australian girl on the run who – after having her secret discovered at the Amsterdam home she works at as a nanny – joins a coach load of tourists on an idyllic rural tour of Holland’s world-famous windmills. However when...

We don't have to waste time wondering if the Broadchurch TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season. More than a year ahead of this installment's premiere on BBC America, creator Chris Chibnall made it clear he was working toward a third and final season. It also helps us gauge the chances of other BBC America shows. What's more -- it keeps us off the streets at night. One of the most controversial aspects of the entertainment industry in recent years has been the lack of strong roles for women. With trailblazers like Viola Davis, Brie Larson, and Emma Stone leading the way, deeper and more important female characters have become common. One young actress who is a part of this new wave is the highly talented Charlotte Beaumont. Beaumont, although only 21 years of age, has appeared in some of the biggest productions in television and film in the past several years. *full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Mongrel Media. **there are a few minor spoilers here. Director: Nick Jongerius. Writers: Nick Jongerius, Chris W. Mitchell and Suzy Quid. Cast: Noah Taylor, Charlotte Beaumont, Patrick Baladi, Adam Thomas Wright and Ben Batt. Nick Jongerius' first feature film was initially titled The Windmill Massacre. In the United States and Canadian markets, the film has been renamed to the much more placid The Windmill. Jongerius bloody trip to the Netherlands, involves an ancient urban legend. Several morally corrupt holidaymakers are set to interact with the killer in this urban legend, first hand. And, The Windmill relies on a Catholic morality, in which sinners must be punished. This is the Old Testament though, so there is no forgiveness on the horizon, for anyone. Then, characters face a supernatural villain. Everything favours this burned and scarred killer. And, The Windmill is often entertaining,...

Dutch horror films don’t get any more on-brand than The Windmill. Maybe a horror movie about the little Dutch boy who plugged that dam and saved Holland? Nah. Big, wooden windmills acting as a gateway to Hell screams Dutch horror, much like the Australian main character, the Asian sidekick….alright, there’s a bit more diversity past locale stereotyping. In any case, director Nick Jongerius spills buckets of gore all over the Netherlands, as a demon dispatches sinners with his all-healing scythe. Heads roll in the name of soulful enlightenment, because karma is quite the bitch in this European slasher import. Grab your clogs and throw on a poncho, because Holland’s hottest sightseeing tour is about to get messy. Like messy/gory, but also messy scripting, and messy crafting.
The film’s protagonist ends up being Jennifer (Charlotte Beaumont), a homeless Aussie transplant who just got outted as being an illegal.

In his new film, The Windmill, Nick Jongerius transforms one of Holland's picturesque tourist attractions into a hub of blood-soaked horror. With XLrator Media releasing The Windmill on VOD and iTunes this Tuesday, followed by a theatrical release on October 28th, we caught up with Jongerius for our latest Q&A feature.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Nick. When did you first come up with the idea for The Windmill?
Nick Jongerius: My pleasure. Thanks for your interest in the film. I first started thinking about the idea for this film after Frankenstein's Army. Our investors at that time were really interested in Holland, especially Amsterdam—the dikes, windmills, clogs, etc. This triggered me. I thought, "What if we use these famous touristic symbols of Holland and drench them in blood? Sort of turning it upside down. From there we shot a proof of concept,...

Balcony won the Iris Prize and British Short Award Toby Fell-Holden enjoyed a double celebration last week, taking home the Iris Prize 2016 as well as the Best British award for his short film Balcony.
It was the first time in the prize's 10-year history that it was won by a UK filmmaker. The £30,000 prize will allow Toby to make a new short film in Wales, becoming the ninth Iris production.
Jury chair Cheryl Dunye said: “We felt that the director crafted a powerful film where not a single moment of its 17 minutes was wasted. The lead performance by Charlotte Beaumont was particularly outstanding as she took us on an internal transformation that left us speechless”.
“The film explored myriad social justice issues not only relevant to Lgbt filmmaking but also with those that intersect with race, class, and gender issues in both the UK and the world today”.

"Without windmills, there would be no Holland." XLrator Media has debuted the first official trailer for indie horror The Windmill, originally known as The Windmill Massacre, from The Netherlands. Kaleidoscope Film Distribution (Kfd) has boarded sales rights to genre-horror The Windmill Massacre ahead of Berlin’s Efm (Feb 11-19).
From debut writer-director Nick Jongerius and producer Daniel Koefoed - both producers on genre-horror Frankenstein’s Army - The Windmill Massacre tells the gory tale of a devil-worshipping miller that, legend has it, ground the bones of locals instead of grain. Back from beyond the grave, the miller seeks vengeance on a group of unsuspecting tourists, who share a dark secret.
Filmed in Amsterdam, the English-language feature is in post-production and due for delivery this spring.

An extended clip for The Windmill Massacre was released in 2013. Now, several horrifying stills are available for this film, from the Netherlands. Though a release date has been announced, this title has moved into production. The Windmill Massacre involves a serial killer, who lives in an old, rundown mill. From here, he lays waste to all who come into his water-logged territory. A preview for the film is hosted here. The synopsis begins with Jennifer (Charlotte Beaumont). She is running away from her past and she decides to hide in the local countryside. Unfortunately, her tour bus runs into the ground. And, Jennifer is forced to take shelter near a Devil-worshipping miller. Two forces will collide as Jennifer does her best to warn the other tourists and to save her own life. Two stills are available for the film below. The first photo shows one character with a brutal leg injury.

Who are the stars of tomorrow in TV, film and theatre?
Digital Spy presents its predictions for 2015 - in no particular order, here are seven young actors, writers, comedians and musicians who look destined to make an impression on the world of entertainment this year.
1. Billy Howle
After graduating from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2013, Billy Howle quickly landed television work in Channel 4's New Worlds and on ITV's Vera.
But the young actor first came to our attention last year with his powerful performance as the troubled James in sorely underrated countryside thriller Glue.
Next up for the talented Howle is a plum role in BBC One's adaptation of Laurie Lee's Cider with Rosie, which is due to be broadcast later in 2015.
2. Hannah Britland
A graduate from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Hannah Britland launched her television acting career with early roles in Misfits and Skins.

We are officially halfway through BBC America’s whodunit Broadchurch, and as Di Hardy (David Tennant) would say, it’s out-blooding-standing. In tonight’s episode, suspicion continues to fall on Jack Marshall (David Bradley), the owner of the shop where Danny worked as a paperboy — who’s also a Sea Brigade leader whose past includes underage sex. In our sneak peek below, Chloe (Charlotte Beaumont) hears a story from her secret boyfriend, Dean (Jacob Anderson). Watch it, then take our weekly poll.

With the investigation into Danny Latimer's death rumbling on, Hardy and Miller's troubled investigation caught a few breaks this week on Broadchurch - with two suspects looming particularly large - but Alec's deteriorating health may have also seen the killer slip through the police's collective fingers...
Digital Spy has picked apart episode six to see if there were any hidden clues.
Clues and Suspects
Jack Marshall's death has seen Hardy (David Tennant) labelled the Worst Cop in Britain - it's not an entirely undeserved moniker given that he's yet to press Mark Latimer (Andrew Buchan) on the gaps in his alibi or noted young Tom Miller's (Adam Wilson) shifty behaviour...
With little progress made in catching Danny's killer, the coppers are threatened with cutbacks and their one remaining lead seems to be a burnt-out boat found floating in the ocean - one of many clues pointing to a new chief suspect.

David Tennant and Olivia Colman's brilliant Broadchurch premiered on ITV last night (March 4) amid a flurry of hype and lofty comparisons with the Godfather of Nordic Noir, The Killing.
Thankfully, the opening episode more than matched the hype, managing to create a gripping whodunnit balanced alongside an emotionally powerful tale of parental grief. There are still eight episodes to go and a crime drama can be made or broken by its resolutions, but in my opinion this first hour was ITV's best piece of drama since 2011's Appropriate Adult. I'm utterly hooked.
Every week, I'll be collecting up the clues and examining the latest twists from the seaside town of Broadchurch to discover the culprit behind the murder of 11-year-old Danny Latimer. In last night's opening instalment, Danny was found on the beach and his death is now being investigated by Di Alec Hardy (Tennant) and DS Ellie Miller (Colman).

If you've been aching for some good old Jean-Claude Van Damme action, here's a chance to get your fix while you're waiting for "The Expendables 2." The Muscles from Brussels shows off some serious skills in this trailer for "Six Bullets," a direct-to-dvd movie that will hit the shelves August 21st.
When Andrew Fayden's daughter is kidnapped, he goes to the best in the kid-rescuing biz, Samson Gaul (Jcvd). The ex-mercenary has the skills to pay the bills, and luckily Fayden (Joe Flanigan) is a former Mma fighter with a sweet tribal neck tattoo, so between them no butt goes unkicked during their search for Becky (Charlotte Beaumont).
"Six Bullets" leans on the real problem of human trafficking in Eastern Europe for the plot, which reminds us of another angry papa bear with "a very particular set of skills" and a kidnapped daughter.
"Finding people, it's what I do," Samson says with an air of melancholy.
