Exclusive: Deadline has learned that two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has exited WME, the agency he’s been at since 2011. The director recently had his seventh No. 1 opening at the box office this past weekend with Universal’s Knock at the Cabin. The film debuted to 14.1 million domestic, 21M worldwide off a thrifty 20M production cost.
Shyamalan’s former WME agents Tanya Cohen and Rich Cook went over to Range Media Partners to become managers, and the 3.3 billion-grossing filmmaker followed them in April 2021. This happens in the business — clients go where their working relationships are. Cook is a Range co-founder.
Range also represents Shyamalan’s production company, Blinding Edge Pictures, run by president of production Ashwin Rajan.

Exclusive: A+E Studios and Range Media Partners have prevailed in a competitive auction surrounding Swedish crime novelist Christoffer Carlsson’s International bestseller Blaze Me a Sun and its follow-up, Under the Storm, securing film and TV rights to both titles.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of Good Morning America‘s naming of Blaze Me a Sun as its Buzz Pick of the Week. The title, first published in the U.S. by Hogarth Books on January 3, tells the tale of a small town’s collective guilt when a serial killer commits his first murder the same night the prime minister is assassinated. Under the Storm has not yet been published in the U.S., though it’s currently available in Sweden.
“We are delighted to be working with Christoffer to adapt Blaze Me A Sun and Under The Storm,” said Range’s Co-Heads of International, Oliver Riddle & Thomas Daley.

Three WME agents, Simon Faber, Solco Schuit and Tanya Cohen, are leaving the agency.
Motion picture lit agents Schuit and Faber are believed to be partnering together, possibly to produce.
Fellow lit agent Cohen is said to be transitioning to management. There is no likely destination yet, with a number of companies — including Range and Sugar23, where fellow WME agent Meredith Wechter is headed — believed to be in play. Range seems most likely, as she and Rich Cook worked together on a number of clients.
Faber has been at WME (and its predecessor Endeavor) for 14.5 years. Schuit, who also transitioned to WME from Endeavor, was named partner last month.
Cohen, who joined WME in 2015, was named partner last year. Before that, she worked at Verve and Paradigm.

William Morris Endeavor agent Tanya Cohen, known as a rising star and champion of female directors, is leaving the agency to pursue a management career.
Cohen recently made partner, and has a roster that includes helmers Gabriela Cowperthwaite (“Blackfish”), Jennifer Yuh Nelson, (“Kung Fu Panda 2”) and comedy veteran Paula Pell.
She is said to be in early negotiations with one of several new management firms to have sprung up in recent months as both a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the waning standoff between the Writers Guild of America and the talent agencies.
Variety has also learned that motion picture and literary packaging agents Solco Schuit and Simon Faber are departing as a team — considering options that include a management path or producer roles.
Solco worked on teams for the likes of “Freaky” and “Happy Death Day” director Christopher Landon, comedian and actor Jimmy O. Yang, and “Honey Boy” director Alma Har’el.

No, it's not a serial killer's bucket list.
The annual Blood List represents the best dark genre screenplays in Hollywood that have yet to be made. It’s a great way to support community and get word out about all the original films that should be on Hollywood’s radar.
Here’s how it works straight from the source:
The Blood List was created in 2009 to bring attention to darker, genre unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. A calendar year for a script to be considered for the list is from October 31st to October 31st. Voting is done by 100 industry insiders. [1] Last year saw the debut of The Viewfinder List [2], which aims to do for aspiring filmmakers what The Black List does for screenwriters. Compiled from a poll of "studio executives, producers, and creatives," The Viewfinder List reflects the most-liked shorts, commercials, and/or music videos of the year. The inaugural list in 2010 included such up-and-comers as Patrick Jean, whose Pixels is due out in 2013, 47 Ronin director Carl Erik Rinsch, and, um, Alejandro González Iñárritu. This year's list has Dan Trachtenberg's Portal: No Escape on top, along with a few other videos you may recognize if you've been paying attention to /Film for the past year. Or even if you haven't -- that adorable Super Bowl Volkswagen ad with the little Darth Vader kid also made the cut, as did Chris Marrs Piliero's video for The Black Keys. Check out the full 2011 Viewfinder List -- with video! -- after the jump.
