This will contain spoilers for "Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel."
Beth Revis is no stranger to "Star Wars," previously writing the terrific "Rogue One" tie-in novel, "Rebel Rising." She was tapped to write the wedding of Han Solo and Princess Leia in the new "The Princess and the Scoundrel" and handles the material with grace and charm, a marked improvement over the previous wedding story we'd been given for the characters. "The Princess and the Scoundrel" begins with the end of "Return of the Jedi" — the battle of Endor is won, but the war for the galaxy still rages, with many in disbelief that the Emperor could actually be dead. In short, the galaxy is in chaos, but the core team of rebels is still celebrating on Endor.

Much has already been written about the Sequel Trilogy’s merits and how it concludes the stories of beloved characters who date back to 1977. Meanwhile, the years since the trilogy wrapped with 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker have been fertile ground for Disney to seed a more cohesive saga around those films. After all, when The Force Awakens launched a new era for Star Wars in theaters in 2015, it was with a rebooted timeline, meaning that fans didn’t know very much about what had happened to Luke, Leia, and Han in the 30 years between Return of the Jedi and the new film. That’s not quite the case anymore, with several TV series, books, and comics now fleshing out what happened before Luke went into exile, Leia formed the Resistance, and Han went back to smuggling.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi may have given George Lucas’ Original Trilogy a fitting end in 1983, but it was also only the beginning of something much bigger. With the Emperor finally defeated and Darth Vader redeemed, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo lived happily ever after on the big screen, but in 1991, Timothy Zahn’s classic Legends novel Heir to the Empire showed us that there were still many, many more battles and wars to fight beyond Endor.
Throughout the ’90s, other books like The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers, The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy by K.W. Jeter, and the X-Wing novels by Michael A. Stackpole and Aaron Allston explored what the galaxy was like directly after the fall of the Empire. There was also The Courtship of Princess Leia by Dave Wolverton, which finally gave Star Wars fans a key moment in the timeline that...

It’s one of the most famous and consequential scenes in Return of the Jedi: before Luke Skywalker heads off to face Darth Vader and the Emperor, he must first reveal a long-buried truth to Princess Leia about who she really is. The audience only learned the news several scenes before on Dagobah, that Luke and Leia are brother and sister, but how will Leia take the news?
Back in the Ewok village on Endor, Luke asks Leia if she has any memory of her mother in hopes of learning something about his own.
“Just a little bit. She died when I was very young,” Leia says, but what exactly does she remember? “Just images really, feelings. She was very beautiful, kind, but sad.”
It’s then that Luke reveals the truth about their family. After an initial moment of shock, Leia replies that she’s somehow always known that...
