Vanessa Hudgens is hopping on the hot tamale train. The actress, known for such classics as High School Musical and Spring Breakers, is officially joining the judging panel on So You Think You Can Dance alongside Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy. Hudgens has never served as a permanent reality show judge before, but did serve as a guest judge in a 2016 episode of Project Runway. A few weeks ago I wished for a Project Runway with tweens, and then I got my wish in Project Runway: Threads. (I really should put my wishing powers to better use, but I can't complain about getting Christian Siriano back on the small screen.) Threads, the fourth spin-off of the franchise, is like Runway Lite. Each week, three tween aspiring designers will face off with two challenges; the first is a look that they prepared at home for immediate judging, the second is a typical "here are the rules, now go; oh, wait, there's more" challenge. Lifetime's "Project Runway Threads" should have been "MasterChef Junior," the unexpectedly great food competition between kid chefs. But while "Threads" is a competition between kids, it's inferior to both its competition and to the show that shares its name. "Project Runway Threads" dumbs everything down for its kids, from its twists (the "Surprise Door Twist" is revealed on a rotating platform as if this show was "Let's Make a Deal") to its set (which looks a collection of former pieces of the "Big Brother" house along with leftover props from "Double Dare"). The first judged challenge is between already-completed looks, so there's no sign of the process that the kids went through to create the work, and process is what's so interesting about "Project Runway." Worst of all, the kids' parents work as their assistants, which is an obvious attempt at creating drama, as is the "assistant steal" prize, which...
