If you are currently reading this, then I believe congratulations are in order! Yes, pat yourself on your assumedly emaciated back -- you deserve it for having survived the most boring cycle of America's Next Top Model ever! To quote Bre from Cycle 5, "I just wanted to take of my heels and throw Up." Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for a gimmick (of which this cycle had no shortage), but the gimmicks here were recycled and played-out, and the lack of engaging/amusing interactions between the girls themselves made for one long, painful yawn of a season. I won't spoil who the recipient of the Antm College Edition crown was just yet, but I will say that the outcome is even more blah than the hyper-bland one we'd all anticipated.

"America's Next Top Model: College Edition" crowned its champion Friday (Nov. 16) -- so who took the prize?
(Finale spoilers coming right up.)
After final photo shoots for sponsors Nine West and Nylon magazine and a haunted house-themed runway show, the winner is Laura James, the daughter of former "Dynasty" star John James. Kiara finished second, and Leila -- who fell during the final runway show -- came in third.
Here's how it went down:
Pics: 'America's Next Top Model: College Edition'
Things don't start auspiciously for Laura, who was collateral damage in a snit between Kelly Cutrone and the photographer during her shoe photo shoot. The argument left Laura with very little time to get a good shot.
Leila and Kiara have their own problems: Leila has some trouble "connecting to the product," and Kiara doesn't want to let go of her serious face.

Hello there, and welcome back to the wet and wild world of America's Next Top Model! This week's installation was weird all-around, from the lazy editing to the equine violence to the self-deprecating confessionals. In fact, the entire mood surrounding the episode was somber -- I kept noticing how completely devastated and strung out all the girls were, despite the looming mixed bag of prizes. In cycles of yore, the contestants would be stressed, yes, as the competition neared its close, but also optimistic and somewhat jubilant -- I don't know what kind of maltreatment has been going down in the Top Model house this time around, but everyone looks severely wounded and desperate to escape.
The episode opens with staged shots of each girl pensively pacing the beach as she considers her Top Model existence. Sepia-tone images of the judges fade across the screen, accompanied by the soft echo of former critiques like,...

Ding, dong, the witch is gone! Or something like that. With Kristin eliminated, America's Next Top Model: College Edition season 19 is sure to be happier.
Only four models remain. Kiara, Nastasia, Laura and Leila will be tested on their performances in front of the camera. Yeah, I know they've been in front of the camera for weeks, but this time it's for a commercial.

In the 10th installment of America's Next Top Model: College Edition (is it still college-themed?), the model-hopefuls continue their Jamaican education by meeting Bob Marley's least-known progeny, slip-sliding down waterfalls, and confronting Tyra Banks' greatest fear (spoiler: it's dolphins). In other words, they complete a smattering of stereotypical Spring Break-style activities -- I realize as I type this that "Spring Break" would've been a much more logical explanation for the destination that Tyra's "I shot my first swimsuit cover here," but Antm basks in the stench of missed opportunity, so here we are.
The episode opens with stock shots of Jamaican shores and obligatory shots of the Half Moon resort, where the cast and crew are being put up at an assumedly discounted rate. The girls saunter into their suite in floral wraps and briefly discuss anorexcellent Victoria's untimely departure while studying Nastasia's winning photo,...

Ding dong! The bitch is dead.
The reality villain is someone who can bring a lot of life into a season of television. That love-to-hate personality type may not be someone you'd want to have tea with on a Saturday morning, but when pitted against a cast that you don't like, it can make for incredibly compelling television to watch them try to mow down the entire field by themselves. However, they can easily wear out their welcome and become more of a hindrance on a season's enjoyment than an asset, particularly if they're more bark than bite or if their level of talent doesn't match up to their level of trash talk. Cycle 19 of Top Model finally decided to get rid of their villain tonight and I'll be the first to say: Good Riddance.

The CW has announced that the cycle 19 finale of America's Next Top Model will be a two-hour event. The first hour, airing on November 16th at 8:00, will crown the next winner of the venerable reality franchise, while the second hour ("The Girl With The Best Top Model Freakout") will feature never-before-seen footage from the cycle. Typically, this type of episode would air the week before the finale in place of a new episode, but this year, The CW decided to use it in a different way, perhaps as a way to keep momentum late in the cycle. As a result of the schedule change, the episode of Nikita that had been slated to air that night has been postponed until a later date.
Currently, America's Next Top Model is down to the final five, as Leila, Laura, Kristin, Kiara, and Nastasia are battling for the top spot while in Jamaica.

On the last episode of America's Next Top Model, the final six headed to Jamaica for the next part of the competition, culminating in a dance-off, a love triangle, and the elimination of Victoria. It was an episode that featured the return of potential power player Leila, something that threw Laura off her game and will play a key role in the rest of cycle 19. Mostly, it established that Jamaica will be a fruitful international destination for the show, able to provide some truly beautiful backdrops for photo shoots.
Next week on Top Model, the fierce five will be thrown head first into said backdrop, as the photo shoot takes place under a potentially dangerous waterfall. But there's not much time for Laura, Kristin, Nastasia, Leila, and Kiara to be overly concerned about their safety, since Tyra will be the guest photographer for the shoot and they'll need to put...

America's Next Top Model left off last week with a decision that will have major implications for the rest of cycle 19. One of the eliminated contestants would get a chance to re-enter the competition and make another run at the title, which could go one of two ways. Either the girl that comes back will be on a roll, having won over the social media crowd, and challenge for the top spot, or she would go from being the big fish in a small pond to a guppy in a the Top Model ocean and not live up to the opportunity that she had been afforded. If the right girl managed to get plucked from a near-elimination and dropped back into the competition, there could be trouble for the current favorites.

Cycle 19 of America's Next Top Model is trudging on, and we're down to just six girls. Of course, the models who have previously been eliminated also have a chance to get back in the competition, but there's been no mention of that. In the meantime, we've got to keep weeding them out. Onwards! Returning to the house after the last panel, Laura is stressed that she was in the bottom two, considering she was on such a high previously. Brittany's also received a letter from her sister, which is meant to be an emotional experience (as underscored by the plucky guitar ballad) and encourages her to be someone her sister can be proud of. The next morning at breakfast, Victoria is finally eating again, considering the fuss that was made about it to Tyra. She may or may not be overcompensating as she sits down at the breakfast table...

Hello all, and welcome! Before I get down to recapping this week's eventless go-sees and subsequent waste of a good prison rental space, I'd like to discuss the Tyrabomb that was dropped this week (which I saw via terrifying Instagram post): namely, that the theme of Cycle 20 of America's Next Top Model (yes, it somehow got renewed) will be Boys And Girls. Yes, you read correctly – Tyra, assumedly in a scramble to salvage the rapidly sinking SS Antm, has revoked her pledge to never have male contestants on her show (Isis excluded) and swallowed her claim that there are no name-recognition male models. I admit, there was a time when I had dreams of becoming a model, but Tyra had shut her doors to my unfortunate gender. I feel slighted, overlooked, and frankly, disappointed in Antm. All I can say is Their Loss.
Now on to this week's episode!

Due to America's Next Top Model going on hiatus this week, making room for The CW to rerun two of its fall pilots, it seems like a good time to take a breath and see where the remaining six models stand in the competition. After going through shoots with cheerleaders, owls, and the walking dead, as well as acting challenges and a runway to save a life, the girls are right on the cusp of go-sees and going international. The goal of becoming America's Next Top Model is within grasp, which may be exciting but could also induce unforced errors that could knock a model out of the competition permanently.
The final six are pretty well-divided into three different categories. There's a decided frontrunner who has the competition on her raquet, there are two models that could provide decent/good competition, and there are three models that are looking more...

Have you ever licked soda off of a dirty floor? Or referred to your eating disorder as a "stress relief?" How about dry-heaving into a toilet while a stranger takes pictures? If you answered yes to any one of these questions, then you have something in common with the contestants from this week's episode of "America's Next Top Model." If you answered yes to all of the questions, then you are my trashy twin and should maybe curb your drinking habits. But yes, after weeks of aimless creative fumbling, the "Antm" machine has reverted to its delicious comfort zone: we're talking dumpster-diving, shade-tossing, anorexia-centric TV gold, and its crassness could not have come soon enough.

I've struggled with my perception of Victoria, pretty much since she popped onto the Top Model audition episode espousing about the Trail of Tears. Her (unintentional) humor has been one of my favorite things about cycle 19 and much of the time, I'm entertained by how unusual of a person she seems to be. Top Model often repeats archetypes and personalities, to the point where you know the dynamic the house will have before the cycle even starts, so it's been nice having a round peg trying to fit into the square Top Model circle. Though I can't help but giggle at how committed she gets at a photo shoot or the continued drubbing she gives Kiara in her confessionals, Victoria's had many moments that make me believe that she doesn't have the emotional fortitude it takes to become America's Next Top Model. The asocial behavior, the dangerously co-dependent relationship with her mother,...

It's hard to believe, perhaps, but we're already on episode six of America's Next Top Model's 14th (yes, 14th) season. Despite the soul-crushing feeling that this show may have run its course, onward we tread - and admittedly, the casting this season has made it all worthwhile. Returning to the house after the last panel, Nastasia gets to go into the Tyra Suite since she won best photo. She of course chooses Kiara to share her prize and the two celebrate the victory by doing a lot of shrieking. Meanwhile, in the bathroom in the main part of the house, Laura is ranting to Victoria about how she's normally "laid back" but now she's "over it" and needs to win absolutely everything going forward. Well, yes, Laura, that is sort of the point. Brittany is sitting in bed, still reeling from Leila's loss. She's also embarrassed (more)...

America's Next Top Model tends to keep the photo shoots that it does fairly light and fluffy. There may be an occasional high fashion shoot or a shoot that leans more on natural beauty, but for the most part, a Top Model shoot is as much about the actual modeling as it is about the girl's ability to adapt to the elements.
The next episode of Top Model, titled "The Girl Who Gets Pwn'd," will take the remaining models into a thematic area that the show has yet to explore: steampunk. Complete with a live owl and Victorian-influenced fashion, the shoot is the most high fashion of the cycle and requires a type of power that not every model remaining possesses. Currently dangling closest to the edge of elimination is Yvonne, who has a confrontation with Bryanboy in the preview for the episode, while Brittany narrowly escaped the bottom two...

Cheerleading, tears, and a melodramatic finale -- no, this isn't "Bring It On 3: All Or Nothing," it's the latest installment of "America's Next Top Model!" If you recall, this cycle's theme is "College Edition," although that flimsy premise has dried up by Episode 5, and we are treated to the formless Antm structure of yester cycles. The petty drama takes off as soon as the models return to the house: Laura is "President" of the house this week due to her high scores at judging, and thusly enjoys the lackluster charms of the Tyra Suite. Unlike Victoria, who greedily hoarded the whole room to herself, Laura invites bitchyboo Kristen to cohabitate, prompting Leila's jealousy and a girl-on-girl "obsession" plotline that reverberates throughout the episode. The camera pans over a dingy sink, overflowing with dishes, as Leila waxes self-pitiful, which, if you're familiar with the Antm editing process, does not bode well for her.

If there was any justice in the world (and creativity in my body this late on a Friday night), this recap would be written from the perspective of Laura's hot pink eyebrows, which will almost certainly be receiving a starring credit next week. It'd be right in line with how the rest of "The Girl Who Sings For Alicia Keys" went, as the child of famous parents received nearly every inch of spare camera time in one of the more one-note edits I think I've ever seen on America's Next Top Model. For 42 minutes, we got to see Laura cry, confront a fear of heights, have an argument, make a new ally, lose an old ally, impress Kelly, put on a fashion show, and nearly win a trip to an Alicia Keys concert, her confessionals racking up more screen time than Bryanboy has in four episodes.

The de-celebrification of America's Next Top Model was one of the alterations for cycle 19 that didn't receive a lot of attention but has been a positive step for the show. While the show has featured cameos from the likes of 90210 actress Shenae Grimes and writer/actor/producer/director Tyler Perry, neither got a chance to sit at the newly formed panel, thanks to the fans filling the "fourth judge" role this cycle. For many a cycle, flashy name after flashy name would be trotted out for the final judging and though some did a more than fine job critiquing the contestants, many either didn't have the fashion background or genuine enthusiasm needed to come across well.

This week's episode of "America's Next Top Model" ran the gamut in terms of genre, throwing us everything from mean girls to Tyler Perry to zombies. There's something for everyone! The scene opens on the Top Model house: Victoria won Best Photo last week, and thusly savors the luxuries afforded to the weekly "president," aka access to the Tyra Suite and not much else. In an unexpected diva move, Vicki opts to stay in the suite alone instead of sharing the wealth, a bitch-play I deeply appreciate. Kiara keenly observes that Vicki might lack the social skills garnered by those who attend schools outside of their own homes, a surprising insight for someone with shaved eyebrows. Semi-plus-size shovel-face Yvonne laments her Yeti looks and lack of fans; I say she needs to bounce out on her misshapen booty Asap.

The Top Model makeover episode is still, more often than not, one of the highlights of each cycle. It may not have the same initial trainwreck-y type of fascination to it than it did during the show's heyday, but you can usually count on the episode to produce at least one major breakdown and at least one impressive transformation. Depending on what goes on during the makeover episode, a cycle can be made, undone, and flipped completely upside down, confidence issues and perceived favoritism tending to be the leading culprit. The girls that come out of the makeover the strongest are the ones that take the change of direction in stride and use the different look in order to flex their modeling skills and grow before out very eyes.

America's Next Top Model 19.01 "The Girl Who Makes the Grade" Recap
Y'all, the casting episode of Top Model has made its triumphant return to the runway.
In recent times, the show had been trying to evolve into Top Model 2.0, a bigger, better, and battier version of itself that tossed out certain elements of formula and replaced them with...chaos and a whole lot of ridiculous. Like, even more than before and that's saying a lot. But following a ratings collapse and viewer revolt once the cycle 17 finale ended in the wonkiest way imaginable, leaving a promising British Invasion cycle on an island by its lonesome, a little bit of old Top Model has returned. Case in point: the resurrection of the casting episode, where Miss Tyra herds a group of ladies together and lets them be silly, talk about one another behind their backs, and ultimately get their stomp on down the catwalk.

"America's Next Top Model" introduced some huge changes for the 19th cycle, the College Edition. What did you think?
The Selection Show
Tyra welcomes 30 semifinalists to a sorority-style house, looking like she just crawled up the beach after being marooned on an island. Seriously, what is going on with her hair? And she brings out the new judges. We miss Nigel, Jay and Miss J already.
After the girls do a walk-off and a photoshoot, they have their interviews with the judges and the reading of the fans' messages is old after one person. That is just not interesting. The girls range from a home-schooled weird girl named Victoria who sounds like Sarah Palin and plays the race card in a very awkward way, to a "Kitty" who likes to meow and looks like Audra McDonald to Kristin, a girl who likes to brawl, is wearing clown-level rouge and thinks...

America's Next Top Model 18.08 "Georgina Chapman" Review
Don't look now, everybody, but there are actually two (not one, but two) Top Models lurking the streets and creating mayhem. Horrifying, I know. The first Top Model is a semi-respectable attempt at putting on a modeling competition; you know that it knows what to do and for the most part, it does just that, never letting its poker face slide for a minute. It's a Top Model we don't see much, but when we do, it's always both a pleasant surprise and random interlude amidst other elements. The second (and default) Top Model is a hot-buttered, corn-starched, girl-i-forgot-to-take-my-anti-psychotics mess; it produces pretty entertaining television, but you kind of wish Top Model would put that mode back in its pants once in a while.
"Georgina Chapman" felt like a combination between the two major aspects of Top Model and it kind of worked because of that.
Don't look now, everybody, but there are actually two (not one, but two) Top Models lurking the streets and creating mayhem. Horrifying, I know. America's Next Top Model 18.07 "Estelle" Review
Rarely does an elimination of Top Model surprise me. Irritate, befuddle, deflate - sure, all the time. I've been around these parts for going on 18 cycles, so I've seen my fair share of ridiculous ousters. But because I've been with the show from day one, it's made me a little numb to the type of antics they can pull. If you see it, believe it, and it's super-duper outlandish, Top Model has it on top of their to do list, so at this point in the show's life, surprises don't happen all that often.
I'll be damned, then, that I've been surprised at the past two eliminations, but pleasantly so. First, AzMarie got knocked off her high horse for failing to train her tooch and now Kyle, she of the ridiculous overpraise and little desire to be there, gets the boot? Be still my reality loving heart.

We said goodbye to Ashley on last week's episode of America's Next Top Model, but which contestant would be packing their bags this time around? There's tension right from the beginning of this episode - Alisha jokes that she's fed up that the American girls are always winning and quips that she won't speak until she wins first call out! But the real problems come while the models play around with Laura's teddy bear... which has sentimental value for her as it was given to her by her late friend. When an ear gets torn off and thrown in the pool, Laura's horrified (though Sophie seems to suggest that none of the women knew what the bear meant to her.) And when Kyle seems to push the ear further into the pool, she gets even angrier: "As far as I'm concerned she's dead to me." Kyle seems to...

America's Next Top Model 18.06 "Jessica Sutta and Nadine Coyle" Review
Hoochie toochie smoochie bootchie toochie toochie coochie coochie.
Don't worry, everybody, I'm not having a fit or psychotic break from too much Top Model. (That's like saying "too much air", c'mon. No such thing.) I'm just practicing what tooches to do and what tooches not to do, as the Good Lord (and Mama Tyra) intended. You wouldn't want your salad tooch to get mixed up with your dessert tooch and heaven knows, if I mixed up my dinner tooch with my fish tooch, I might not be to show up at the next TV Blogger Luncheon, Fashion Show, and Tooch Off. And we wouldn't want that now, would we?
Y'all, tonight's Top Model was all types of stupid and train wreck-y, but I have to admit...I kind of loved it. I don't know if it's residual good feelings from an improved cycle or what,...

"America's Next Top Model" all-stars winner Lisa D'Amato was back on the CW this week, helping mentor the Cycle 18 girls in their music challenge. She tells Zap2it all about the experience of returning, which girls she thinks are the strongest and what she's been up to since all-stars wrapped.
"I'm very jealous of them because their music challenge has more elements than our music challenge did on all-stars," D'Amato tells us, of the Cycle 18 girls. "We all mentored them in our own fortes. I mentored in the studio and co-wrote songs for them, I wrote their individual parts. It was great fun."
Lisa has never been afraid to speak her mind, so she certainly didn't hesitate to tell us which girls stood out to her this cycle.
"The ones who really shined and made an impact on my heart were Alisha, Annaliese, Catherine... and Laura is a sweetheart. You...

America's Next Top Model: British Invasion: Top 9 Power Rankings
Believe it or not, we're already down five girls in the search for America's Next Top Model-slash-Actress-slash-Reality-Footnote. It's been a weird cycle thus far, in that it's an improvement over cycle 17 yet there's still a lot of head scratching decisions being made, both on and off the catwalk. However, the farther we head into Tyra's Black Hole of Fierceness, the more we're seeing that there may be some models with actual potential vying for the title, as opposed to the regular girl realness that was being served at the cycle's beginning. Now that we've had a week with no new episode, it's time to fix your weave, smize with all you've got, and try to figure out who in the world could become the 18th winner of this mess.

With Candace's elimination from America's Next Top Model last week, the teams are equal again - there are five American models and five British models. Which team will lose a member this time around? Sophie's determined to up her game to match Azmarie, while Kyle's decided not to leave after her concerns last week. Meanwhile, Laura's annoyed with the other girls crying - she reveals that one of her friends died in a motorcycle accident shortly before the competition. "They've got to understand it's a blessing just to be here," she says. But the models have a treat ahead - they're going to fly to Toronto! In a video message, Jay Manuel explains that they're going to be going to real castings for real shows in real Toronto Fashion week! Alisha's excited: "These bitches are about to get cooked!" America's Next Top Model 18.05 "Beverly Johnson" Review
One of the main complaints that people (including yours truly) have had about Top Model is that it can feel a little insular. Instead of exposing the girls in each cycle to the realities of the fashion business through actual casting/jobs, realistic photoshoots, and lessons in handling your coins, it can focus too much on being capital-r Reality TV. There are many (legitimate) reasons that no true top model has emerged from the Top Model dungeon, but one of the primary examples of this lies with how little the girls know about what they're getting themselves into upon leaving the show. To be able to beat the fashion machine that has spit many a girl out like juice from a mouthful of chewing tobacco, you have to understand the machine and dressing like Michael Jackson or freely eating a hot dog aren't ways to do it.

Candace Smith is the latest girl eliminated from "America's Next Top Model." She tells Zap2it that she was pretty surprised she went home and what her favorite challenge was (which was a bit surprising).
Are you glad you did "America's Next Top Model"?
"I'm definitely glad I did this show. It gave me a stepping stone on my modeling career. I don't regret it all.
Were you a little surprised when you were the one who went home?
"Oh, yeah. I was so shocked when I went home. Honestly, it was the beginning of the competition and I felt that I needed more of a chance to prove myself being on the show. It was very surprising to me that I got eliminated early on in the competition."
Do you think the judges should've taken Kyle wanting to go home into consideration more?

America's Next Top Model 18.04 "J. Alexander" Review
In recent cycles of Top Model, the role of runway diva coach extraordinaire (and total friend in my head) Miss J. Alexander has been greatly reduced. I don't know if it's his busy schedule or any internal strife in Modelland, but the show tends to only pull him out for a challenge or two per cycle, with the last couple not even relating to runway. J. always brought a sense of fun and excitement to the show, damn near glistening with personality, and the technical know-how he has about the catwalk has been sorely missed, replaced by...well, Top Model doesn't really do runway anymore.
I mean, aside from their increasingly ridiculous final runways, of course.
Which is why his presence on tonight's Top Model was both fabulous and a little disappointing. Having J. back livened up the challenge, but if you're going to bring Miss J.

On the latest "America's Next Top Model," Tyra busts out Super Smize again, while the girls are given an awesome ad campaign challenge.
Tyra drops by the house to make the girls walk out by the pool, then have an impromptu jam session, or something. And she's wearing reflective crossing guard tape and her Super Smize and it's really, really dumb.
Tyra then assigns the girls superhero names: Illuminata, Gam-a-Tronica, Chameeleone, Era-descent, Charismia, Excite-to-Buy, Andro-Genia, Zagalicious, Fiercely Real, Next-Doorsia, Exotica and 30-Never. Some are obviously better than others.
Challenge
They have to create an ad campaign for Very.com, an online British retailer. The theme is love and luxury and it's U.S. vs. U.K. They are actually doing it all (make-up/hair, wardrobe, props, casting a male model). It's a pretty cool challenge, actually.
The UK girls go '60s mod, while the Us team does Punk Love with Azmarie as the leader.

America's Next Top Model 18.03 "Cat Deeley" Review
Well, that was awkward.
And awesome.
Admittedly, I had kind of lost hope in this cycle of Top Model after an uneventful, nonsensical episode last week. The Americans were hideously boring, the shoot failed to be as artsy as it tried to be, and the show was focusing too much on the rivalry aspect vs., y'know, finding a competent model and whatnot. Once a cycle of Top Model nosedives like that, it very rarely fully recovers, with Tyra and company content to go own the rabbit hole of awful, self-serving reality TV and never look back. But I'll be damned if they didn't get it together already.
How about a relevant Top Model challenge? In 2012? Be still my heart. This week, Team Brit and Team Amurrica had to design their own ad campaigns for very.com and were in charge of every aspect: casting,...

Things are really kicked into high gear on Antm:Bi this week. And by "high gear," I mean "high crazy." Maybe this show's still got it after all!
Now, when an American or British girl wins best photo of the week, her "team" gets a prize. For her "genius upside down" winning shot last week -- I doubt you need me to point out why hanging upside down out of a crib with Kris Jenner doesn't exactly qualify as "genius" -- Laura wins a box full of clothes for the American girls. But the Brits shant be bother'd! They decide to play a "prank" on the Yanks by running into their room at night and throwing "little balls of paper" at them. So basically their "prank" is to wake up the Americans with their squeals while gently grazing their bodies (but more likely them missing entirely) with featherweight balls of ineffectiveness.

This week on "America's Next Top Model," Kris Jenner from "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" and her Wednesday Addams daughters Kendall and Kylie are there to ... well, it's kind of unclear why they are there. It's also hard to tell if the models are really excited to see these "celebrities" or if there are some off-camera production assistants just prodding them with hot pokers.
Makeovers
But first! Makeovers! Clap hands, squeal with glee. Seriously, though, we love the makeovers. We can't wait to see who breaks down in hysterics. Alisha then actually says they don't have Native Americans in England. Is she being serious? Does she mean some kind of indigenous people? Or actual Native Americans?! Because - wow.
We find out these aren't makeovers, they're Shakeovers. Awesome. Everyone's hair is going to be LSD bonkers. And ... Louise is our first freak-out. She's getting a beige blunt cut and totally loses her mind - um,...

America's Next Top Model 18.02 "Kris Jenner" Review
You remember the promise I talked about Top Model showing in its premiere last week?
Yeah, forget I said that.
In the second episode of cycle 18, the newness wore off and the problems that Top Model: British Invasion will be facing for the entirety of its run became clearer. The casting, especially, has yet to click, but surprisingly, it's the American girls that are falling extremely flat for me this cycle. Say what you want about the Brit girls and their overconfidence last week, but thus far in Top Model, they've been far more memorable and distinct than their American counterparts, most of whom blur together in a sea of bangs and dreary confessionals. There's no X factor on "Team America", no girl that immediately makes me sit up and take notice; it's a bunch of bland, interchangeable, extremely safe girls that don't...

So, we're on cycle 18 of America's Next Top Model, which means they need to come up with something interesting to keep it fresh. How about bringing in seven British models, or more specifically, seven former Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model contestants? Will they have an edge over the seven American contestants with no prior experience? Team America: Our Americans include AzMarie, an androgynous model who prides herself on being able to do both handsome and feminine. She's also a lesbian who says she's not against flirting with some of the girls for fun. Kyle's from a small country town in Texas and has never been to California before, while Mariah is the first Native American to be featured on the show. Laura describes herself as a "true bisexual" and thinks AzMarie is "so sexy". Eboni has a full ride to the (more)...

America's Next Top Model 18.01 "Kelly Osbourne" Review
I believe it was Thomas Mann who stated "Time has no divisions to mark its passage, there is never a thunderstorm or blare of trumpets to announce the beginning of a new month or year. Even when a new century begins it is only we mortals who ring bells and fire off pistols."
Apparently Thomas Mann wasn't a big fan of Top Model, because like death, taxes, and Cher outliving all of us, a new cycle of Tyra's Home for Wayward Girls is a certainty of life. At least every September and February/March, that is. No matter rain, sleet, or threat of unkempt weave, Top Model has managed to be there, like a loving mother or herpes, and Wednesday saw the latest cycle attempt take-off. Here we are, "America's Next Top Model" fans! Not only is our favorite ridiculous reality show back, but there are Brits! Cheerio, guvna! Based on the pictures they released pre-show, we think the UK girls have a huge advantage over the Us girls.
During intros, here's what stood out:
We love the androgynous girl, Azmarie. She comes across way better in person than she did in her still photo. Sophie says the dictionary is from Oxford, which is where she's from. We are confident she has a huge vocabulary and mastery of the English language. Annaliese says the Us is "not ready for the British invasion. We did it once, we can do it again." Do you suppose she means the Beatles? Because we whipped your butts in the Revolutionary War, thanks. We meet Laura, the bisexual, who has designs on Azmarie the lesbian. Tyra Banks embraces her anglophilia on cycle 18 of America's Next Top Model, which will pit British contestants against Americans when it premieres Wednesday. I cannot believe the day is finally here and we can escape from this atrocious cycle of America's Next Top Model: All Stars. The final three are about as different as can be and at this point I'm really not sure who will win or who I ultimately even want to win. Allison is obviously my favorite model thanks to her ability to take great pictures in almost every situation and her personality not making me want to punch her in the face. I might not want Allison to win though because I would worry it would hold her back from being a bigger, more successful model. Lisa still gets on my nerves when she trash talks or makes things uncomfortable. But I've got to hand it to her — she's been taking great pictures this season, has stepped up to the plate on every challenge and would fit in...

On the "America's Next Top Model" all stars cycle finale, it came down to Lisa D'Amato, Allison Harvard and Angelea Preston. So who took the crown?
After an unusual panel where the judges informed us that Angelea had been disqualified (we talk about why here), Allison and Lisa were the final two, with Lisa being declared the winner.
Let's see how we got there ...
The episode starts off with each girl talking about their journey, blahblahblah sad story cakes. Let's get to the crazy challenge and photoshoot.
The Cover Girl print ad and commercial
This is always a hilarious trainwreck. Lisa's print shoot is really pretty, her eye makeup is crazy and looks awesome. Her commercial lines are actually pretty solid, except for a weird "oh yes" line, but honestly, that's the bad writing. It's a clunky line.
Allison's print shoot is kind of bland, but her eyes,...

Interview with 'Top Model' All-Star Laura Kirkpatrick: It Felt Good to Know the Judges Fought for Me
She may have missed out on her second chance to be named America's Next Top Model, but it's safe to say that Laura Kirkpatrick has solidified her unofficial title as the show's most lovable model. Certainly of this All-Star cycle. Possibly ever.
Laura also proved that her second-place finish in the "shorties" cycle was no fluke. She could model -- and often out-model -- alongside her taller, more experienced competition. Still, and even though she'd gotten best photo just one week earlier for her depiction of an ancient Greek archer, the judges sent Laura home this week, just shy of the All-Star finals, saying her adorable personality didn't always match up with her sexy photographs. But they didn't do so lightly (at least, not as lightly or arbitrarily as so many decisions on Tyra's show seem to get made). As viewers saw, this came after the longest judges' deliberation in the show's history.
