Sanguis bibimus! Corpus edimus! In a partnership between Mutant, Hollywood Records, and 20th Century Films, the haunting soundtrack to "The First Omen" can soon be yours on vinyl. The prequel to Richard Donner's 1976 masterpiece, director Arkashsa Stevenson's most excellent "The First Omen" is the rare example of a legacy film done right, and what /Film's Witney Seibold described in his review, as "a film of dank, bloody, spittle-flecked dread, made no less powerful by the foregone conclusion." Donner's original film shocked audiences upon release and is believed to this day to be a cursed film, but Stevenson's prequel film had to fight with the MPA to avoid an Nc-17 rating, so the franchise tradition of scaring the squares is alive and well.
"The Omen" was scored by Jerry Goldsmith, who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Score, but took home the "Best Original Song" statue for the movie's theme "Ave Satani,...

You know what's cool? The unabashedly sci-fi nerdery on display in "Dune" and this week's follow-up, "Dune: Part Two." You know what's even cooler? Catching all that majesty on the biggest screen available with a packed crowd and one of those mildly disturbing "Dune"-themed popcorn buckets in hand. You know what's coolest of all? Coming down from that spice-induced high in the days and weeks and even months after the fact, blasting the sumptuous and epic soundtrack from composer Hans Zimmer in a new release crafted by the fine folks over at Mutant (the new shop that rose from the ashes of the shutdown of Mondo).
Following hard on the heels of their celebration of the "Lisa Frankenstein" soundtrack will be a specially curated physical release of the "Dune: Part Two" soundtrack for the vinyl and CD enthusiasts among us. Having seen the highly-anticipated sequel, we can confirm that...

Back in March of 2023, we reported on the death of the greatest boutique pop culture poster company, Mondo. Granted, the company still exists in name only underneath the Funko brand, but Mondo as we once knew it (including a majority of the founders and core staff that made the company possible) is over. Fortunately, a savior appeared in the form of ... the team that gave us Mondo in the first place and the wonderful weirdos (Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah) over at SpectreVision. Former Mondo creative directors Spencer Hickman, Eric Garza, Mitch Putnam, and Mo Shafeek joined CEO Jenny Jacobi to form the new company, Mutant, which will produce limited-edition artwork, posters, soundtracks on vinyl, collectibles, events, and more.
One of Mutant's first releases is the original motion picture soundtrack for "Lisa Frankenstein," so you can relive all the glorious, creepy '80s goodness whenever the urge to build your own undead boyfriend beckons.

Established in 2004, Mondo forever changed the landscape of pop culture collectibles — from t-shirts to screen printed movie posters, vinyl soundtracks, toys, board games and even home goods, the company elevated fandom from a hobby to a lifestyle. It has not only inspired dozens of similar businesses worldwide and propelled the consumption of physical media, but minted a team that quickly and widely became known for its passion, creativity and shrewd decisionmaking. On Monday, four of their former leaders — led by Eric Garza, Mitch Putnam, Spencer Hickman and Mo Shafeek — debuted a new endeavor leveraging their experience, relationships and reputation: Mutant.
Led by CEO Jenny Jacobi, a Vidiots Foundation advisory board member and seven-year Alamo Drafthouse veteran, the quartet will produce posters, music, apparel and more. The announcement them a chance to start fresh after exiting Mondo, now under the ownership of vinyl figurine company Funko Inc.

Back in March 2023, the Austin-based collectibles and poster company Mondo was hit with a wave of layoffs from parent company Funko, including the company’s former co-founders and creative directors. Today, those leaders have announced their comeback.
Former Mondo creative directors Spencer Hickman, Eric Garza, Mitch Putnam, and Mo Shafeek have teamed up with CEO Jenny Jacobi to form a new company called Mutant, which will release limited-edition artwork, posters, soundtracks on vinyl, collectibles, events, and more.
The company is being formed underneath SpectreVision, Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah’s genre-bending production company. The company is kicking off its launch with a vinyl soundtrack for Netflix’s “Society of the Snow.” The LP features artwork from Mo Shafeek adorning the score from composer Michael Giacchino as well as liner notes from director J.A. Bayona.

Mondo is known for producing the rare and the extraordinary. From T-shirts to limited-edition movie prints to remastered vinyl movie soundtracks, there is no facet of nostalgia or fandom this brand hasn’t investigated in the hopes of creating something truly unique. In fact, the ravenous demand for even more elaborate and secretive artistic collaborations inspired the several-day celebration MondoCon back in 2015.
And Tuesday marks another Mondo milestone, Mondo Music and Death Waltz Recording Company are celebrating 10 years of creating music with a 10-week celebration that will include new music, book releases, retrospectives and other yet-to-be-announced surprises.
The first surprise is this vinyl release from Stanley Kubrick’s war drama “Full Metal Jacket.

Austin, TX – July 9, 2021 – Mondo Music, in conjunction with Hollywood Records, is proud to present the premiere vinyl pressing of Lorne Balfe’s score to the highly anticipated Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, available for pre-order at MondoShop.com on Friday, July 9.
Lorne Balfe’s first MCU score is a force to be reckoned with. He’s no stranger to crafting propulsive music for espionage epics (just listen to his masterful score to “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”) and his take on “Black Widow” is no exception. Balfe blends Russian choirs and soloists, with delicate and haunting piano and acoustic guitar; swirling strings with his trademark layered percussion. Balfe is incredibly elastic, delivering a beautiful score for this long-awaited chapter in Natasha Romanov’s story.
Pressed on 2x 180 Gram colored vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve, kick-start Phase Four with the latest in our ongoing celebration of the music of the MCU.

Yeah, The Buffy The Vampire Slayer musical episode, “Once More Time With Feeling” is one of my favorite episodes of the series. Not only is the music good, but it also told great and pivotal part of Buffy’s story arc.
Anyway, if you’re a fan of the episode as well, and collector vinyl records, Mondo is releasing the soundtrack on vinyl with original art created by artist Paul Mann. It also comes complete with liner notes by series creator and songwriter Joss Whedon.
Mo Shafeek, Mondo Record Label Manager said in a statement following the announcement:
We’ve been huge fans of “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer” for decades…. Our obsession with the musical episode “Once More With Feeling” inadvertently presented a solution to a long standing problem of how to best entry point for us to celebrate the brilliantly singular, yet expansive series. It took a few years to get it perfect,...
