But that didn't stop him from giving her a kiss on the cheek after he was sentenced Tuesday to two years in federal prison. "I'm a fallen human being. I've made mistakes in my life," an unemotional McDonnell told reporters outside the Richmond, Virginia, courthouse. Still, he vowed to appeal the verdict that convicted him - and, separately, his wife, Maureen - of corruption fraud and bribery in September. The couple, whose dirty laundry was aired in court,...

Corruption charges, an overly abrasive first wife and an unraveling marriage. While it sounds like a storyline right out of Scandal, these are all scenarios popping up in court, as former Governor Bob McDonnell, a Republican from Virginia, faces public corruption charges. McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, face a 14-count indictment for allegedly taking thousands of dollars in gifts and loans from entrepreneur Jonnie Williams in exchange for using their position to promote his dietary supplement company. The union representing Associated Press employees is calling for the reinstatement of two employees fired for an erroneous report about Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, saying the news agency has overreacted to “a mistake.” News Media Guild President Martha Waggoner noted that two fired staffers in the AP’s Richmond, Va., bureau were so well-regarded that Virgina’s top politicians are attending an event Nov. 18 to support them. Gov. Bob McDonnell and Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling are Republicans, and Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner — both former governors — are Democrats. In an interview with Virginia's Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell on CNN Thursday morning, Starting Point anchor Soledad O'Brien quizzed the governor on the status of the presidential race in his state. The only problem with that assessment is that the president has never held that wide of a lead over Romney in Virginia. Furthermore, the last three polls of the state show Romney overtaking Obama.
