When best friends Michael and Matty make a pact to lose their virginity before prom, a spanner is thrown in the works when Matty comes out as gay. Trying to work out their new situation, Michael makes it his life ambition to continue the pact no matter what. Together, they start on an adventure of calamity and hi-jinx as they try to find their place in the world, how their lives have changed because of it and who can they persuade to have sex with them before prom night is through.
Date and Switch definitely suffers from that classic ‘teenager romantic comedy’ syndrome where it is all about sex and, namely, having it before a certain time limit is up.

New Indie There’s a whole subcategory of the Teen Movie genre that we could call the prom-com, in which everything leads up to the big dance that’s the defining moment of so many students’ senior year. One of my new favorites of this ilk would be the wonderfully off-kilter Date and Switch (Lionsgate), a comedy that takes the adolescent bromance into gay territory without missing a comic beat. Best pals Michael (Nicholas Braun) and Matty (Hunter Cope — skinny on the DVD cover, adorably schlubby enough in the movie to be playing the Seth Rogen/Jonah Hill role) decide they’ve just got to lose their respective virginities before prom; so far, so typical. But when Matty comes out as “a gay dude” to Michael, complications ensue, not the least of...

Dakota Johnson needn't worry about getting typecast as her submissive Fifty Shades of Grey character Anastasia Steele, because, as she proves in this deleted Date and Switch clip, she can masterfully dominate a scene, too! The 24-year-old actress plays Em, the supportive ex-girlfriend Matty (Hunter Cope), a high school guy outed as gay before he's ready. Dakota's character blames Michael (Nicholas Braun) for spilling Matty's secret, and when he naïvely shows up at her house and asks her to prom, she properly eviscerates him. "You've done an awful, horrible thing," she spits. "If I were Matty, I don't know if I've ever forgive you." Michael tries (and...

“Date and Switch” star Hunter Cope grew up around the entertainment industry thanks to his voice-over manager mother and film editor father, but when he told his extended family that he booked his first lead role in a low-budget studio comedy titled “Gay Dude,” some scoffed and suggested a title change. “I know I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, but it’s not a porn film! It was a Black List script written by Alan Yang,” Cope told TheWrap with a laugh Thursday, just hours before Lionsgate released “Date and Switch” day-and-date in 11 theatrical markets as well as.

News has an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming comedy (in theaters and on demand on Feb. 14). But first a quick plot summary. Date and Switch is far from anything like the Fifty Shades sex romp. But their plans get a bit more complicated when Matty announces that he's gay. Johnson plays Em, Matty's ex-girlfriend, who becomes the love interest...

After directing the big, goofy Sundance comedy Ass Backwards with Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael (which I enjoyed quite a bit), Chris Nelson is back in the director's chair with future 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson for the teen sexy comedy Date and Switch. The film follows best friends Michael (Nicholas Braun) and Matty (Hunter Cope) who take the familiar oath to help each other lose their virginity before senior prom. However, when Matty reveals that he's gay, that changes their approach. At least it's an original take on this subgenre, and the supporting cast has Nick Offerman and more. Watch! Here's the first trailer for Chris Nelson's Date and Switch, originally from Yahoo: Date and Switch is directed by Chris Nelson (Ass Backwards) and written by Alan Yang ("Parks & Recreation") High school seniors Michael (Nicholas Braun) and Matty (Hunter Cope) have been best friends since the 3rd grade.

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Phase 4 Films. **there are spoilers here. Director: Jarret Tarnol. Writer: Brent Tarnol. Cast: Alexander Aguila, Carson Aune, Adam Beesely, Hunter Cope, Ana Corbi, Isait De La Fuente, David Fernandez Jr., Maritza Graciela, Aaron Jaeger, Alfredo De Leon, Fabian Lopez, and Oscar Lopez. Barrio Tales is a co-production from brothers Jarret and Brent Tarnol. Barrio simply means neighbourhood in English. In the film, Barrio is a mysterious place in Mexico where most of the characters are from or going to. This horror title consists of four short stories titled: "Maria," "Uncle Tio's Taco Truck," and "El Munstruo." There is also a wraparound story that begins the film, interjects itself inbetween the other stories and finishes out the film. Many of the short stories involve social commentaries on Mexican workers, while the film is fairly humourous overall. Barrio Tales is another enjoyable horror film that focuses.

[1] Breakout star Melissa McCarthy has signed up for ID Theft, which will team her with the ubiquitous but charming Jason Bateman. As suggested by the title, the comedy follows a man who becomes the target of identity theft. Bateman will play the victim, and McCarthy the thief. McCarthy's role was originally written for a man, but Bateman (who's also producing) pushed to cast McCarthy in the part after seeing her inspired, scene-stealing performance in Bridesmaids. Shooting for ID Theft will begin April 2012, at the start of McCarthy's hiatus from Mike & Molly. The script was originally written by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness), and is currently in rewrites with Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II). [Deadline [2]] After the jump, new gigs for Natalie Portman and Parks & Recreation lovebirds Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. They never can quite get together on screen, can they?
Real life couple and hilarious TV exes, Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally have together signed on to play parents of two best friends in an upcoming comedy. Titled "Gay Dude," Variety relays that it's about two best friends, played by Nicholas Braun and Hunter Cope, who vow to get laid before their senior prom -- shades of "American Pie" -- before one of the kids comes out as gay to the other.
Offerman will play supportive father to the gay friend, while Mullally will be mother to the other friend. The pair are, of course, the hilariously combustible divorcees Ron Swanson and Tammy (two), who manipulate each other into sex and political favors. This season will see the addition of Swanson's first ex wife named Tammy, to be played by Patricia Clarkson, who terrifies Mullally's Tammy character.

When it comes to celebrity couples you typically couldn't pay me to give half a shit, but I make an exception for Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. In addition to being married in real life, the pair plays an epically toxic divorced couple on NBC's Parks and Recreation and they are absolutely hysterical together. Now they'll be bringing that chemistry to the big screen. Variety has learned that Offerman and Mullally have both joined the cast of Gay Dude, a new comedy from Lionsgate. A strange twist on the plot from American Pie, two best friends, Michael (Nicholas Braun) and Matty (Hunter Cope), who vow to help each other get laid before senior prom. Dakota Johnson has signed on to bring a woman's (and probably heterosexual) touch to the new romantic comedy, "Gay Dude," according to Variety.
"Gay Dude" follows the misadventures of two high school seniors who vow to lose their virginity before prom, a quest that becomes more surprising and convoluted when one of them comes out of the closet.
Oh, these wacky high-concept rom coms --finding love (and getting laid) is just never easy, is it?
Johnson's role is currently unknown but it might be safe to assume that her character is targeted for possibly assisting one of the boys in fulfilling his goal. She joins a cast that includes Nicholas Braun ("Red State," "Prom"), newcomer Hunter Cope and Dreama Walker ("Gossip Girl").
Chris Nelson of "HBO Voyeur Project" is set to direct with a script by Alan Yang ("Parks and Recreation").
