Did you ever notice that most shows set in New York in the 1990s featured a preferred eatery? The gang on Seinfeld spent their time at Monk’s. The friends of Friends hung out at Central Perk. While the girl group from Sex and the City never mentioned their spot by name, you might have noticed that they seemed to converge on the same casual eatery they called a coffee shop for brunch and lunch pretty often. The “coffee shop” where Carrie Bradshaw famously canceled her rice pudding is a Chelsea institution named Cafeteria.
Did you notice that Carrie and her pals often connected at the same “coffee shop”?
For six seasons, Sex and the City fans watched Carrie and her pals eat at various locations. They dined at elite fictional hotspots, drank at the top bars in town, enjoyed a club opening or two, and had less-than-stellar times at a couple of dive bars.

If you're a Food Network fan, it's nearly impossible to miss Alex Guarnaschelli. Executive chef at Butter and The Darby in New York City, she's also been a judge on the network's landmark cooking competition Chopped since its inception, and has her own show, Alex's Day Off.
Many were introduced to Alex when she went after the Iron Chef title in 2011 in The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs, advancing to the final three.
The latest iteration of The Next Iron Chef brought back only contestants who had previously competed for the title and were clearly seeking what defined the show: Redemption.
Guarnaschelli graciously made time for TV Fanatic last week, and we got to ask her about Tnic: Redemption, her family and what she really loves to cook...

Victory tastes so delicious! After a hard-fought battle in Kitchen Stadium, Alex Guarnaschelli beat out fellow Chopped judge Amanda Freitag to win this season of The Next Iron Chef. This cycle was all about redemption, which makes her title as Iron Chef that much sweeter since Guarnaschelli was eliminated last season right before the finale. We hopped on the phone with the new Iron Chef to talk about her favorite moments from this past season, and what it really feels like to go head to head in Kitchen Stadium. Congratulations! How does it feel after two installments of Next Iron Chef to finally be the winner? Alex Guarnaschelli: [Host] Alton [Brown] was like, 'at this point, this is it for you....

The top three chefs -- Nate Appleman, who made a complex haddock chowder and Amanda Freitag and Alex Guarnaschelli -- squared off on Food Network's season finale of "Next Iron Chef: Redemption" Sunday (Dec. 23), with Guarnaschelli serving up sea urchin to secure her victory.
"I never thought for a minute that I would win," she tells Zap2it. "In the humblest of terms, I never dreamed I would win, and when that curtain dropped [revealing my photo], you could have knocked me over."
"I did tell my parents," Guarnaschelli says. "My mom -- I called her and said, 'I am doing 'Next Iron Chef' again. And she said, 'Oh no, don't do it! You are not good at those things. Don't do it!' "
Guarnaschelli says she understand her mom's need to protect her.

Fans of Food Network's competition series "Chopped" love to watch chefs struggling to incorporate unexpected ingredients into a seemingly incompatible dinner course.
So what happens when "Chopped" builds a special episode around Thanksgiving, one of the most traditional food holidays of the year?
"The Thanksgiving episode is one of my favorites," judge Amanda Freitag says of the hour premiering Tuesday, Nov. 13. "It's really hard, because everybody always has these things that they make, and there's not any deviation. We're asking them to take this basket filled with 'something' and get creative with it. Also, as we all know, Thanksgiving dinner takes, like, two days to prepare, and here (the time allotted) doesn't even add up to two hours."
Still, the chefs show impressive creativity, Freitag adds.
"They have 20 minutes to impress those of us who are judges but have competed ourselves. They're definitely working hard for that $10,000. I've competed on 'Chopped,...

Amanda Freitag also is a contestant on the Sunday competition "The Next Iron Chef: Redemption." If she wins, she will become only the second female -- after Cat Cora -- to become an Iron Chef.
"Obviously I want to be a role model for any other female chefs, but then I don't walk around while I'm working in the kitchen and think, 'I'm a female,' " she tells Zap2it. "I just think of myself as a really good chef."
Did being on "Next Iron Chef" previously give you an advantage this time around?
"Once we got started, it felt like a disadvantage, actually. You knew what was coming, so the nerves almost were even greater than before. You knew that whatever the Chairman was going to bestow upon you was going to be 10 times harder than before. We knew the kitchen, we knew some of the challenges, so we...
