Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper" chronicled the military career of eagle-eyed military sharpshooter Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) who was killed along with friend, Chad Littlefield, by Eddie Ray Routh at a shooting range in 2013. Set against the backdrop of the Iraq war, the day-to-day hardships and operational life of a soldier was shown with a great attention to detail in order to tell the story with the right level of respect and authenticity. Aside from Cooper, a myriad of other actors are featured in smaller roles to help show the subtle differences between the company men who, on first glance, may seem to all be on the same page in their allegiance to the flag. Performers like the underrated Kyle Gallner, Keir O'Donnell, and a very young Luke Grimes, star of "Yellowstone," all give effective performances that helped Eastwood's war film find a grittier, more realistic foundation.

The year after he published his autobiography American Sniper and the year before the film adaptation hit theaters, United States Navy Seal veteran Christopher Kyle was gunned down along with his friend Chad Littlefield. So what happened to Chris Kyle's killer? Justice caught up with Eddie Ray Routh just more than two years later… Routh was arraigned on Feb. 2, 2013, the same day he shot and killed Kyle and Littlefield at a shooting range in Erath County, TX. On Feb. 24, 2015, Routh was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. And in April 2017, a court of appeals upheld the conviction — which is the latest update we've heard about the case. Kyle and Littlefield were reportedly helping Routh, a former Marine, with his post-traumatic stress disorder. Routh had also been diagnosed with schizophrenia and psychosis. After being charged with double murder, Routh pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity,...

The gunman who killed American Sniper's Chris Kyle has been found guilty of murder.
Judge Jason Cashon sentenced Eddie Ray Routh to life imprisonment without the chance of parole for shooting Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield at a gun range in 2013, according to The AP.
While Routh admitted to the killings, he entered a not guilty plea on the grounds of mental illness. His legal team argued that he was suffering from the psychotic effects of schizophrenia when he killed Kyle and Littlefield.
However, the prosecution argued: "This defendant has gone to the deep well of excuses for his violent behaviours one too many times. I am tired of the proposition that if you have mental illness that you can't be held responsible for what you do."
They added that Routh's violent behaviour was triggered by his alcohol dependency and use of marijuana.

Eddie Ray Routh, the ex-Marine who fatally shot the Navy Seal and his friend Chad Littlefield at a shooting range in February 2013, was found guilty of murder Tuesday and immediately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, NBC News reports. Prosecutors had not been seeking the death penalty. The jury was out for just a few hours before returning with a verdict. A Texas jury found Eddie Ray Routh guilty in the murder of “American Sniper” subject Chris Kyle on Tuesday night. Routh, 27, a former Marine, was on trial for killing Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield at a gun range in 2013. Routh admitted to the killings, but pleaded not guilty. The fact that he had shot and killed the men was not in dispute, but his defense attorneys had argued that Routh was insane at the time of the shootings. Jurors deliberating the case had three choices — guilty, not guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity. They rejected the insanity defense and took less.
