It’s a quiet month on Netflix in January, but the streamer still has some good stuff lined up for the new year, including an interesting documentary about the Centra Tech cryptocurrency scam. Bitconned arrives on the first of the month alongside Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, Fool Me Once, which sees an ex-soldier called Maya witness her husband’s murder on a nanny cam. The crime then leads her down a deadly path where she uncovers a deadly conspiracy.
Schitt’s Creek star Daniel Levy will also debut his first film as writer and director with Good Grief on Netflix this month. The movie follows Levy’s character Marc as he does some soul-searching after the death of his husband.
Kevin Hart has a new movie called Lift hitting the platform this month, too. He plays the leader of a heist crew looking to rob $500 million in gold from...

A new year is around the corner, and Netflix is ready to celebrate! The streamer has released its full list of titles that will be coming to its platform to start 2024 off right, including classics and library hits, such as the first three films in the “John Wick” franchise, Train to Busan, and more.
The bulk of Netflix’s new titles, though, comes from its own original series, films, comedy specials, documentaries, and animes. Debuting in January will be “The Brothers Sun,” a new black comedy action series starring Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, and Michelle Yeoh; as well as the Sofía Vergara-led mini-series “Griselda”; new seasons of “Queer Eye” and “Masters of the Universe: Revolution”; Dan Levy’s dramedy “Good Grief”; and comedy specials from Jacqueline Novak, Jack Whitehall, and Rachid Badouri.

Netflix has released the full list of movies and television shows that will be available for streaming beginning on January 1, 2024.
Each month, Netflix adds a large library of new content to their streaming platform. Usually, there’s a good mix of Netflix original movies and shows, plus past and present TV shows from other networks and previously released movies, too. This month is no exception, with lots of originals coming, with some classics mixed in.
Of course, Netflix will also be removing titles, too. In January, they’ll be taking away 23 movies and TV shows!

No order of preference, really.
#5: Bodyguard
Although I'm not a fan of Tony Jaa, I believe he's a great fighter. This is why I once decided to rent this film at my local library, because I saw Jaa's name right on the top part of the DVD cover. Unfortunately, while the film lasts for 105 minutes, Jaa only makes a cameo appearance for about five minutes in a fight scene. Pathetic.
#4: Revolutionary Road
Cute on-screen couple? Check. Tragic love story? Check. Unfortunately, Sam Mendes's Revolutionary Road will not make at least one billion dollars at the box-office like James Cameron's Titanic. Thank the studio behind this gem only for promoting Revolutionary Road as one film among others rather than as a second reunion between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, whose on-screen chemistry made Titanic a success. No wonder Revolutionary Road just made at least $75 M at the box-office.

Canadian comedian André Sauvé will adapt into a film a famous monologue he did in a sketch: the grocery store (l'épicerie). The film will fittingly be called L'épicerie.
This will be the second film in which André Sauvé plays after Filière 13. Instead of being in a supporting role like in Filière 13, Sauvé will be the lead actor.
Christal Film Productions, a production company, announced yesterday that André Sauvé will write the film's script along with Claude Lalonde (Filière 13). For the moment, no director is attached to the film.
The film is about a man who goes to the grocery store. Once there, he starts to panick because of what's offered to him on the shelves.
In the next months, the producers of the film will seek subsidies from Telefilm Canada and the Sodec, respectively a federal and a Quebecker cinematographic funding agency. The producers expect L'épicerie's budget to be at $6 M.

Because Quebecker cinema pretends to be something that it isn't, no wonder we've got an action comedy this year. Whether you're looking for good action scenes or a good laugh, L'appât will dismay you, because it's closer to television than cinema.
In Montreal, a French mobster of Italian heritage died at a police precinct. Prudent Poirier (Guy A. Lepage), a very incompetent cop, was trying to save him. Because Poirier might help to crack the case, France's secret services sends Ventura (Rachid Badouri), an elite agent, in Montreal. However, Ventura will pose as a rookie trained by Poirier. However, Ventura ends up loathing Poirier and things get rather complicated for viewers' pleasure.
Moreover, L'appât is really unbearable to watch because its two leading actors, Guy A. Lepage and Rachid Badouri, who takes his role too seriously, overact too much. As Prudent Poirier, Lepage looks like a cop who came out of a sitcom.

Yesterday, the first clip of the upcoming action comedy L'appât was presented during the talk show Tout le monde en parle. The film will be released in Quebec in December 17.
The film is directed by Yves Simoneau and co-written with William Reymond, a French journalist.
The film takes place in Montreal and a French citizen got murdered. Since that French citizen had highly important information, the French government sends Ventura (Rachid Badouri), an elite spy who can speak eight languages. However, Ventura will discover that Prudent Philippe Poirier (Guy A. Lepage), an agent of the Sûreté du Québec (Sq), is on the investigation whether Ventura likes it or not. As time goes by, both of them will learn how to work together.
The film also stars Ayisha Issa, Maxim Roy, Romano Orzari, Serge Dupire, Alain Moussi, Joe DeMarco...
