When Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf developed a “communication model” that would pave the way to the internet, I doubt online hate groups were a part of the dream. Unfortunately, anonymity and the creation of forums where people can foster deplorable behavior exist. What if someone were to infiltrate them? Can you dismantle this egregious behavior one corner of the dark web at a time? Jessica Chastain‘s character in The Savant is going to try. That’s right, haters. After playing country music star Tammy Wynette in George & Tammy, Chastain will star in The Savant, a new limited series for Apple.

Jessica Chastain is a savant of acting, and now she’s getting a whole limited series to prove it. The “Eyes of Tammy Faye” Oscar winner and current star of “A Doll’s House” on Broadway will star in “The Savant,” a new limited series ordered by Apple TV+.
No other cast members outside of Chastain have been announced, and Apple TV+ states the storyline and character details are being kept under wraps. However, the show is inspired by a feature published in Cosmopolitan, with the original writer Andrea Stanley serving as a consultant.
Apple did not specify what article from Stanley the show is based on, but judging from the title, it’s almost certainly “They Call Her The Savant,” a 2019 profile of an anonymous woman who infiltrates online hate groups in order to track and prevent potential mass shootings.

Jessica Chastain is the latest A-lister to score her own show at Apple.
The Oscar-winning The Eyes of Tammy Faye actress will star in The Savant, an eight-episode limited series based on a true story published by Cosmopolitan.
While Apple is remaining mum on details, Andrea Stanley — who is attached as a consultant on the Chastain show — penned a Cosmo story in August 2019 under the headline “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” that detailed a woman known as “The Savant,” an investigator whose job is to take down the country’s most violent men before they can carry out large-scale attacks.
Melissa James Gibson (Anatomy of a Scandal, The Americans) is on board to serve as showrunner on the series, which is a co-production between Fifth Season (formerly known as Endeavor Content) and Anonymous Content. Gibson is based at Fifth Season with an overall deal.
