Jeopardy!‘s latest super-champ, Ray Lalonde, who recently won 13 games in a row and 386,000, is not letting last Tuesday’s (January 2) loss bring him down, as he opens up about his experience on the show, meeting Ken Jennings, and dealing with Twitter trolls. The scenic artist from Toronto, Canada, spoke with Toronto Life about his Jeopardy! journey, where he revealed he was “having too much fun taking it one game at a time” to be heartbroken by his loss. He also said buzzer management is what cost him the game more so than the difficulty of the questions. “I think everybody on stage knows the answers to most of the questions, so it is really an issue of how quickly you can come up with them and hit the buzzer,” Lalonde explained. “They actually coach you on the buzzer during the practice round. Ray Lalonde‘s winning streak came to an end Tuesday, January 3, after an impressive 13-game run and a winning total of 386,400, cementing his spot in the next Tournament of Champions 2023 and making him the latest in a recent flurry of Jeopardy! super-champs. A scenic artist from Toronto, Lalonde is the second-winningest Canadian contestant ever, placing behind Halifax, Nova Scotia native Mattea Roach, who last year won 23 straight games, putting her in fifth place for the longest streak in the show’s history. Both are among seven players to have won 10 or more games on the show in 2021 or 2022. Starting with Matt Amodio‘s 38-game winning streak in 2021, Jeopardy! has seen a conveyor belt of super-champs. Amodio’s record was soon broken by Tournament of Champions victor Amy Schneider, who racked up 40 consecutive wins in 2022, placing her second to Ken Jennings (74) on the all-time leaderboard. This was followed by Roach, Ryan Long...

Toronto-based scenic artist Ray Lalonde’s winning streak on Jeopardy! has ended.
Lalonde, who was hoping for his 14th victory on the long-running trivia game show, had amassed winnings of US386,400 going into Tuesday’s show.
But the 24,000 he scored wasn’t enough to beat challenger Lloyd Sy, a graduate student in literature from Rockford, Il, whose final score was 24,490.
Lalonde is among only 16 contestants in the show’s history with winning streaks of at least 10 games, according to Andy Saunders, the Guelph, Ont.-based blogger behind “The Jeopardy! Fan.”
