Peggy Carter’s mission into the heart of the Ussr isn’t off to a roaring start. Already her old friend Howard Stark has incurred the wrath of an enigmatic alien force, and that’s not including the shady girl, Tania, posing as Carter’s contact. With the assistance of a mercenary by the name of Woodrow McCord, they make their way into the Russian motherland to uncover the source of an alien beacon. Naturally, they’re in for more than they asked for.
Immonen wastes no time as the unlikely quartet head into the Soviet outback. While balancing Marvel’s cosmic and diesel punk gadgetry, Operation S.I.N. works in classic spy adventure pulp as everyone is working some angle. Stark is clearly hiding his own intentions, Tania...

This series marks Kathryn Immonen’s return to a regular series at Marvel, and it’s safe to say it’s off to a good start. Whether intentional or not, she’s writing a series which takes place at the shifting point between the types of genres which tend to make up the history of shared superhero universes. As such Operation S.I.N. is a bizarre hybrid of various pulp genres: World War II action, James Bond espionage, and Golden Age alien science fiction. While all parts aren’t on full display, this first issue establishes all the elements and looks planned to go all out with its premise.
The real focus of this issue is mostly set up for the relationship between Peggy Carter and Howard Stark. Since the war, they’ve...

Announced at the New York Comic Con yesterday, Operation S.I.N. kicks off in January from he creative team of writer Kathryn Immonen and artist Rich Ellis. The five-issue series follows Peggy Carter and Howard Stark in a globe-trotting adventure into Cold War era Russia trailing an alien artifact that could upset the balance of international relations. It sounds as if the comic book will share quite a few similarities with the Agent Carter TV series as Starkpulls Carter back into the action through his belief that she very much does not belong behind the desk, an act of persuasion that sets them - and Original Sin character Woodrow McCord - directly...
