Nicolas Cage scholars might quibble with the promotional claim that Brett Donowho’s “The Old Way” is the actor’s “first traditional Western” — a choice of words that’s careful not to step on the spurs of neo-genre fare like “Butcher’s Crossing” and “Prisoners of the Ghostland” — but
The first part of the problem is that Donowho’s competent but uncompelling oater doesn’t have enough fresh meat on its bones to fill out its Western cosplay. While Morgan Smith’s jaunty score does its best to summon memories of “My Darling Clementine,” and Carl W. Lucas’ threadbare script channels the same one-way modernity that “Shane” once rode towards an uncertain sunset, “The Old Way” clearly lacks the ambition to shoot for any identity of its own.
Even worse is that it gestures towards one anyway, as this low-budget genre exercise allows its characters just enough ammunition for us to...

Sixteen years after MTV cameras invaded Laguna Beach High School, the cast is once again coming clean. Kristin Cavallari, Lauren Conrad, Stephen Colletti, Lo Bosworth, Morgan Smith, Christina Schuller, Trey Phillips, Talan Torriero and Loren Polster reunited virtually on Oct. 23 for the first time since leaving the O.C. behind. The cast of Laguna Beach's trip down memory lane had all of us yearning for a simpler time when deciding between a Team L.C. or Team Kristin graphic tee from Hollister was our biggest concern. Here's something I'm willing to admit: the Laguna Beach cast reunion has me more excited than my own high school reunion. Earlier this month, the stars of the influential early 2000s MTV reality show pledged to virtually get together if they could get over 500 people to check their registration status or register to vote for the upcoming presidential election. Well, 10,000 people later, and we have our reunion! Cue "Come Clean."
The heartwarming video featured an all-star roster consisting of Lauren Conrad, Stephen Colletti, Kristin Cavallari, Lo Bosworth, Trey Phillips, Dieter Schmitz, Talan Torriero, Morgan Smith, Christina Sinclair, and Loren Polster. Though quite a lot has happened since the show came to an end in 2006 - spinoff shows were spawned, impressive careers have blossomed, children have been had - it at times felt like little time had passed, as they went around sharing superlatives, behind-the-scenes secrets, and old memories. Check it all out ahead.

Let's go back to the real Orange County. On Friday, Oct. 23, the cast of Laguna Beach got together for a virtual reunion on Ig TV that included former rivals Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad, and the boy at the center of their feud, Stephen Colletti. In the reunion, which was organized to drive voter registration via HeadCount's #GoodToVote campaign, the Laguna Beach squad—which also included Lo Bosworth, Morgan Smith, Christina Sinclair, Trey Phillips, Talan Torriero and Loren Polster—played a round of games with host Emily Longeretta, including "Never Have I Ever." (It really was a high school reunion!) While the...
