After a career as producer and few short films, independent director Kim Cho-hee brings to light her debut feature, “Lucky Chan-sil”, a charming story of, well … a film producer, dealing with the challenges that life throws at her. Like many of this year's movies, her work was caught in the COVID19 storm, just in between Festival runs and (cancelled) theatrical releases; therefore, after gaining a rich palmarès in Festivals (Kbs Independent Film Award and the Cgv Arthouse Award at Biff and the Audience Award at the Seoul Independent Film Festival), got stalled abruptly. Hopefully not for long.

Where would Buffy Summers be with Rupert Giles? More importantly, where would "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" be without Anthony Head? When fans discuss their favorite characters on "Buffy," you're likely to hear a lot of Spikes, Willows, Faiths, and of course, a lot of Buffys. You don't hear the name of the Scooby Gang's trusty leader, Giles, quite as often. Why is that?
The man appointed by the Watcher Council to oversee Buffy's tenure as the current slayer of the realm, Giles' role within the Sunnydale vampire-fighting crew mirrored to a large extent the character's role within the larger show, as a kind of straight man. For the most part, Giles is a reliable, even-tempered, unfailingly knowledgeable teacher, guide, protector, and father figure to Buffy and her friends. For the most part.
The further that "Buffy" went along, the further Giles' character deepened, as tends to happen on 22-episode-long seasons...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" might have started out as a cult hit, but it's surely now reached the status of all-time-great TV show. The series lasted for a full seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and while it has become complicated to love in the wake of startling accusations against showrunner and creator Joss Whedon, the show itself produced some of the best moments in TV history.
As it went on, "Buffy" dealt more and more with serious and weighty issues, making for some truly heartbreaking "Buffy" moments. By the time the fifth season rolled around, Whedon and co. were producing harrowing and affecting explorations of grief with such classics as "The Body," which opens with an unforgettable one-take sequence in which Buffy's mom dies. Joss Whedon still considers that episode the best thing he's ever done.

Alyson Hannigan was brilliant in the role of Willow Rosenberg on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, which ran for a total of seven seasons and 144 episodes, beginning in 1997 and wrapping up in 2003… But she didn’t join the show until the pilot was reshot, replacing the previously cast Riff Regan as Willow. And during an interview with Shut Up Evan, Melanie Lynskey confirmed that she was also a potential Willow.
Interviewer Evan Ross Katz had been told by Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar that the show’s creator Joss Whedon had envisioned Lynskey (only known from Heavenly Creatures at the time) as Willow when he was writing the pilot script, but Lynskey, who is from New Zealand, couldn’t audition because there was an issue with her visa. Katz asked Lynskey about that and she replied, “It is basically true. It was kind of a visa issue, but...

Reviewing Taiwanese Cinema history, everyone refers to the masters of Taiwanese New Wave, like Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang, Wan Jen and Wang Toon. However, seldom people had ever mentioned another great director who made, possibly, the greatest gangster film in Taiwan: Hsu Hsiao-ming. Only some audience has seen his “Dust of Angels”, which is underrated all the time.
“Dust of Angels” is screening at Udine Far East Film Festival
The story is about two teenagers, A-Guo and A-Douzi, who use drugs and hang around with gangster all day. During the 1990s, Taiwanese economy had reached its highest point, and the society changed faster than any periods in history. The economic boom gave gangsters opportunities to gain their power in business and politics. Teenagers like the main characters were easily absorbed and became part of it. After getting involved in a homicide event in their home town, A-Guo...

Lockwood & Co. coming to Netflix just six weeks after the streaming service cancelled its last solid adaptation of a British fantasy YA book series in The Bastard Son & The Devil Itself, feels a bit like getting a new puppy after your last one was run over. You’re happy it’s here, obviously, but there’s a tug of wariness about getting too attached.
It’s very easy to get attached to this eight-episode ghost story about three teens running a supernatural detective agency. The cast is charming, the characters are likeable and their world – in which a nightly curfew and platoons of rapier-bearing teens protects London from spectral attack – is solidly conceived.

We are living in an age of TV show revivals. By the end of this month, Night Court will even be back on the air. But don’t get your hopes up for a revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that would bring Sarah Michelle Gellar back in the title role. While speaking with SFX Magazine (via Movieweb), Gellar said she wouldn’t want to play Buffy ever again.
When asked if she’s interested in reprising the role, Gellar answered, “I’m not. I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn’t need to be done. We wrapped that up. I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment. I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power.

Hong Kong/New Delhi, Oct 3 (Ians) Apple is rich and powerful so it can have a try in India to manufacture more high-end products but it can’t find another China as the firm will consume the energy of its development gradually in attempting such a transfer, Chinese state-run publication People’s Daily has said.
In an opinion piece published in Global Times, the publication said whether Apple’s move to India is a forced “political decision” or a forward-looking “economic decision,” there is no doubt that it comes against the backdrop of Washington’s shift to a containment-based strategy toward China.
“On the surface, this may seem bad for China, but in the long run, it is a good thing for the country. It is not so much a test of smartphones made in China as it is a test of the US’ ‘decoupling’ policy,” read the piece.

Glenn Frey, a founding member of Eagles who sang and wrote many of the band’s songs and was a part-time actor, died today in New York. He was 67.
The group and his family announced his death in a statement on Facebook: “Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. … Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.”
