Ross Ulbricht (Nick Robinson) wanted to change the world. And he did. Whether you believe it was for the better (bringing the Dark Web and Tor into the mainstream via his anonymous marketplace Silk Road) or worse, the infrastructure he utilized coupled with the advantages afforded by Bitcoin ignited a firestorm of possibilities. Because at the center of it all was a desire to adhere to a Libertarian set of philosophies that shook the system and evaded the state. That the story has subsequently been reduced to “drugs-by-mail” is thus as much an in-road towards entertaining drama as a smokescreen away from governmental overreach.
It’s the latter that interested director Alex Winter enough to focus his documentary Deep Web on the whole issue rather than merely Ulbricht himself. The young man who went by “Dread Pirate Roberts” on his website was still a centerpiece being that he provided a...

"This guy's the first Millennial gangster." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for a movie called Silk Road, telling the rise & fall story of the founder of the infamous darkweb drug website called "Silk Road". This hasn't premiered at any film festivals and is heading straight to VOD in February for any curious to watch. Philosophical 20-something Ross Ulbricht creates Silk Road, a dark net website that sells narcotics, while DEA agent Rick Bowden goes undercover to bring him in. Nick Robinson stars as Ross, who values freedom above all, and Jason Clarke co-stars as the DEA agent. It's a back-n-forth story about the two and how similar they are. Also starring Katie Aselton, Jimmi Simpson, Daniel David Stewart, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Lexi Rabe, Will Ropp, with Paul Walter Hauser, and Alexandra Shipp. I really wish this looked better than it does; it's a cool story to tell, but this seems...

The Fugitive is becoming a TV show…again.
The story of a wrongfully accused man being chased by a dogged detective is getting its third televised adaptation, and the first in the streaming era with new streaming service Quibi having ordered the new series. This version will take place in the modern era and star Boyd Holbrook as the titular fugitive and Kiefer Sutherland as his pursuer.
Stephen Hopkins (24) will direct and produce.
The first Fugitive TV series premiered in 1963. It would go on to be considered to be one of the best TV series of all time and was eventually adapted into an Oscar-nominated film starring Harrison Ford in 1993. Created by longtime Hollywood and Silicon Valley power players Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, upcoming streaming platform Quibi will launch soon, on April 6. One of its flagship series is “The Fugitive,” from “Scorpion” creator Nick Santora. Check out the first teaser for the upcoming series below.
“The Fugitive” remakes the classic 1960s TV series, which previously spawned a film version in 1993 that won Tommy Lee Jones the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. In Quibi’s version, blue-collar worker Mike Ferro (played by Boyd Holbrook) is wrongly pinned for a Los Angeles metro bombing, and he’s forced to take the investigation of the real culprit into his own hands. But he’s up against detective Clay Bryce (Kiefer Sutherland), who’s targeting Mike amid a city riven by panic and fake news as Mike’s life and rumored complicity in the crime become media fodder.

(Warning: This post contains mild spoilers for Hulu’s “Catch-22”)
Milo Minderbinder is arguably the most famous fictional war profiteer in literature, all thanks to the care and detail that Joseph Heller put into crafting the character for his World War II novel, “Catch-22” — and his sketchy enterprise, “The Syndicate.”
Daniel David Stewart plays Milo on Hulu’s adaptation of the book, which stars Christopher Abbott as Yossarian, Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart and George Clooney as Scheisskopf. The limited series faithfully delves into how the Minderbinder character is a satire of the modern businessman and capitalism, obsessed with expanding the mess operations in the camp.
Yeah, this “Syndicate” thing gets a little complicated to everyone — even in-universe — so TheWrap sat down with Stewart to ask him to explain himself. Or at least explain Milo.

Joseph Heller’s 1961 novel Catch-22 is one of the greatest anti-war satires ever written.
Clooney and Heslov executive-produced this new version, with each directing a pair of episodes (Ellen Kuras handled the other two) from scripts by Luke Davies and David Michôd. Their depiction of World War II’s Mediterranean theater, as seen through the eyes of American bombardier John Yossarian (Christopher Abbott from Girls), is handsome and appropriately shocking. It’s the day before his 58th birthday when George Clooney phones me from a car as he heads away from “a production meeting sitting with 40 people asking you for things.” As usual, he’s juggling: It’s what this admitted workaholic loves. Free from any financial concerns (he and partner Rande Gerber sold their tequila company Casamigos for $1 billion in 2017), Clooney can do whatever he wants.
Lay $1 million in $20 bills on each of his 14 closest friends. Hang with Amal and his twins in Italy. Shoot a dozen Nespresso commercials and funnel cash to various charities. Ramp up movies for Smokehouse’s new two-year first-look deal at MGM. Finish an eight-part Netflix series on Watergate. Launch his next directing gig, the long-awaited John DeLorean biopic. He may or may not take on the title role. That’s his call. He’s in charge.

“Catch-22” is, thankfully, not solely about war. What George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s new limited series has to say about soldiers dying for their country isn’t as revolutionary as Joseph Heller’s words were when first published in 1961, even if Hulu’s six-part TV adaptation blends his divergent storytelling into one, largely chronological experience. Scripts by Luke Davies and David Michôd do a fine job capturing the absurdity inherent to young men in the prime of their lives throwing themselves into danger for orders that don’t make sense and men they will never meet.
The battle of perception, profit, and pride is what matters more than survival — but these observations, even when captured with a black comic wink, are dated. Thankfully, this spin on “Catch-22” finds fresher relevance in exploring what it’s like to live as the sole sane person in a world filled with dangerous empowered insanity.

We’ve got a new trailer here for you to watch for Hulu’s upcoming six-episode limited World War II series Catch-22. The show is based on Joseph Heller’s acclaimed novel and it was directed by George Clooney, who also stars in this film.
I love the tone of this series as it has a very Coen Brothers type vibe to it with the writing and storytelling style. Clooney takes on the role of Scheisskopf and is joined by Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart, Hugh Laurie as Major de Coverley, and Christopher Abbott as Yossarian, a U.S. Air Force bombardier who is angry not only at the enemy who continues trying to kill him, but also at his own army which regularly puts him in harm’s way.

Based on Joseph Heller’s seminal novel of the same name, Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian (Christopher Abbott).
Yossarian is a Us Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him.
But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service.

Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22.
Catch-22 is a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind.
A man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions,...

If you were worried Hulu’s adaptation of “Catch-22” won’t capture the sardonic humor of Joseph Heller‘s iconic World War II novel, fear not. The new trailer, released Wednesday, is a nearly two-minute capsule of satire, morbid humor and George Clooney‘s mustache.
The clip wastes no time explaining what a catch-22 is to those unfamiliar with the phrase or who’ve never read the 1961 novel. Essentially, as Christopher Abbott‘s Capt. John Yossarian learns, the maddening paradoxical rule states that not wanting to die on duty indicates a person is sane and is thus therefore ineligible to be relieved from duty. “That’s some catch, that catch-22,” he says.
Unlike the first teaser trailer, which focused more on the prestige factor of the upcoming limited series — executive-produced by Clooney and Grant Heslov — this one totally plays up the dark humor that’s made Heller’s tome a classic.

A World War II fighter pilot confronts the mental madness of war in the trailer for the limited series adaptation of Joseph Heller’s classic novel, Catch-22, premiering May 17th on Hulu.
The six-part series stars Christopher Abbott as Yossarian, an Air Force bombardier based in Italy who is desperate to end his service. “That’s some catch, that Catch-22.” You said it, Yossarian.
Hulu dropped the trailer for its upcoming adaptation of the classic Joseph Heller novel “Catch-22” Wednesday morning, revealing the titular problem at hand for everyone in the George Clooney-led World War II limited series. The dilemma being, you can only get grounded if you’re crazy — but as soon as you ask to get out of combat duty, you’re no longer crazy, so you have to fly more missions.
According to the doctor that Yossarian (Christopher Abbott) is trying to get help from in the trailer above, it’s “the best catch there is.”

If you’ve followed the news at all today, you know Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen abruptly resigned amid tension in the Trump administration over its failure to stop Central American migrants from crossing the southern border.
President Donald Trump tweeted news of Nielsen’s departure at 6:02 p.m. Et. He wasted no time lining up an acting replacement and immediately announced on Twitter: “Kevin McAleenan, the current U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, will become Acting Secretary for Dhs. I have confidence that Kevin will do a great job!”
Catch-22 executive producer Grant Heslov compared the “absurdity” of what was happening in Washington to events in the Hulu limited series he co-produced with George Clooney.
“When George and I came aboard this, we sort of talked about the idea that there’s never really a bad time to talk about the absurdity of war,” Heslov said...

George Clooney’s Hulu limited series “Catch-22” is dropping just in time for Emmy consideration: Friday, May 17. The streaming service revealed the date Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour, along with a teaser trailer (watch above).
Instead of employing its usual weekly episode release, Hulu will premiere all six episodes of “Catch-22” that day, ensuring that the project is eligible for September’s Emmys by the May 31 deadline.
Based on the acclaimed 1961 Joseph Heller novel and directed by Clooney, the series follows Capt. John Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a World War II U.S. Air Force bombardier who is enraged by the bureaucratic rule known as Catch-22, which stipulates that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers that are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind.
