Tom Hanks has been snapped in character as Walt Disney on the set of Saving Mr. Banks. Twitter user Melissa Farley caught the photo of Hanks as filming was taking place at Disneyland. It’s easy to imagine Hanks mastering the avuncular charm we expect this filmic version of Disney to possess. In fact, with his side parting, ‘60s suit and tiny moustache, we’ve already got an inkling that Hanks could be a shoo-in for Supporting Actor nods come early 2014. Just a hunch. The film looks at the troubled production of Mary...

The first image(s) of Tom Hanks as Walt Disney have arrived online via Twitter user Melissa Farley and Imagineering Disney who snapped the pics at Disneyland where filming is taking place on Saving Mr. Banks, a behind-the-scenes drama about the making of Mary Poppins. The movie marks director John Lee Hancock's follow-up to the surprise hit The Blind Side, which sort of blindsided everyone when it quietly inched its way into awards season with multiple Oscar nods and a win for Sandra Bullock in the Best Actress category. Hanks, who looks more like a slightly overweight version of Tom Hanks with a mustache than Walt Disney, will star in the film alongside Colin Farrell, Emma Thompson, Paul Giamatti and Jason Schwartzman. There aren't many studio creators that the average movie-goer could pick out of a line-up, but Walt Disney's look was pretty damn iconic. From the nice suit, to the short and tight haircut to the perfectly manicured mustache, Disney didn't need to be palling around with Mickey Mouse to get noticed. Thus it's a very specific look that Tom Hanks will be trying to capture in the upcoming biopic Saving Mr. Banks, in which the Oscar winning actor plays the film mogul, and it's a look that we have our first shot of today. Slash Film has found image Tweets from Twitter user/actor Melissa Farley and Imagineering Disney that give us our first look at Hanks in the full Walt Disney costume. You can check out two images below and head over to the source for the first look at Emma Thompson as author P.L. Travers in the ...

Saving Mr. Banks accounts Walt Disney’s twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers’ popular novel 'Mary Poppins' and the testy partnership the upbeat filmmaker develops with the uptight author during the project’s pre-production in 1961. Two-time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks (“Philadelphia,” “Forrest Gump”) will essay the role of the legendary Disney (the first time the entrepreneur has ever been depicted in a dramatic film) alongside fellow double Oscar®-winner Emma Thompson (“Howard’s End,” “Sense and Sensibility”) in the role of the prickly novelist. Hanks was spotted in his Walt Disney attire today at Disneyland Park between scenes. The photo comes courtesy of actress Melissa Farley: Before actually signing away the book’s rights, Travers’ demands for contractual...
