It’s been nearly a decade since the tragic death of former child actor Brad Renfro. During his too-short career he made over 20 movies, the last one being 2008’s The Informers, where he starred alongside Billy Bob Thornton and Winona Ryder. The Apt Pupil star was a gifted actor who battled several off-screen demons, which ultimately ended the life of the 25-year-old.

Who would’ve thought that a film about a flatulent corpse would be so popular? The answer: Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, directors of “Swiss Army Man” starring Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano. After premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to positive reviews, the “Daniels” won the festival’s U.S. Directing Award. The film was then picked up by A24 and had a stellar theatrical run, garnering $4.2 million at the box office.
Now, “Swiss Army Man” is set to be released on Blu-ray, and IndieWire has an exclusive behind the scenes clip where the directors test out the farting corpse for the “motor-butt” scene. Check it out below.

If distance makes the heart grow fonder, then technology is injecting that heart with steroids, according to Scream star Carlson Young. "I don't know if we could have made it in 1950, but we can definitely make it in 2016," Young, 25, tells People of using Skype and social media to stay in contact with her fiancé Isom Innis while she films Scream in New Orleans and he tours the globe with Foster the People. Every so often, a film is so innovative that it sends audiences running. Such was the case when “Swiss Army Man” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where the tale of a despondent island castaway (Paul Dano) and the talking, farting corpse he discovers and befriends (Daniel Radcliffe) inspired a seriously divisive responsive. No one is walking out now: “Swiss Army Man” led the specialty box office last weekend, (beating out the highly anticipated “Neon Demon”), and opens nationally July 1. It’s quickly becoming the breakout story of the summer. But while its directors are technically first-timers in the feature-length realm, they’re hardly newcomers.
The film’s success is largely due to its odd premise, dark humor, and — above all — a unique aesthetic that’s both tonally offbeat and profound. That aesthetic was honed by directors Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, who go simply by “Daniels,” during their rise...

Swiss Army Man, which hits theaters this Friday, has been making waves with its already-infamous title as the odd, farting corpse drama that shook and divided Sundance this year. Following a hopeless man (Paul Dano) stranded on a deserted island who finds a companion in a talking corpse (Daniel Radcliffe). One can see our review here. The minds behind the madness are the directing duo Daniels — Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, hence the name — and while this marks their feature debut, the pair have been working together for years.
Beginning in 2010, the two created a Vimeo and uploaded the official video for The Hundred in the Hands’ song “Pigeons.” From there, they spent the next five years crafting an assortment of commercials, music videos, skits, and short films — all seemingly working towards the distillation and realization of their collective cinematic voice with Swiss Army Man. There’s no shortage of directors who honed their craft on music videos and made the leap to narrative drama, and often they’re some of the most creative directors on the block. Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek, David Fincher, Flora Sigismondi, Antoine Fuqa, Tarsem, and many more have graduated to features, and next up in line for big things could be “The Daniels,” a.k.a. Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, a filmmaking duo who won the Best Director prize at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2014 for DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s "Turn Down for What,” and helmed creative videos for The Shins, Foster the People, and many more. Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009, Foster the People are an Indie/electronic band known for their hit song ‘Pumped Up Kicks’. In 2011, they released their debut album Torches, touring it extensively all over the world. The album would receive platinum certifications in the Us, Canada and Australia. But, it’s main selling point was still Pumped Up Kicks.
The song has gone on to sell, as of August 2013, 5.17 million copies in the Us alone. But the band would return to the studio and write their next album Supermodel, released in 2014. The album would not chart or sell as well as Torches, but saw them take on a darker, more mature sound.
From humble beginnings in Cleveland, Ohio, Mark Foster (singer/founder/multi-instrumentalist) would move to L.A. in an attempt to make it in the music industry. Out there, he would form the band with friends...

Adventure, the debut album for French Wunderkind Madeon, takes listeners on a colourful and whimsical musical journey. It represents three years of hard work on the producer’s part, and it certainly shows. Every single note and vocal is crafted to orchestrate a soundtrack to an imaginary world. One which is filled with good vibes, catchy pop sounds, and a lasting state of euphoria.
Kicking off the 12-track LP is a prelude titled “Isometric.” Winding scales prepare the listener for the adventure ahead, progressing towards a sneak peak of the signature Madeon break. While brief in length, it creates anticipation and a yearning for what’s to come. Following that is “You’re On,” which was also the second release from the album. It highlights the soothing R&B vocals of Kyan, which ride a 100 bpm wave of pop melodies and synths.

You only have to look at Zane Lowe's re-scoring of Drive to see how impassioned fans get about film soundtracks. In fairness, that was a brave undertaking, and swapping College & Electric Youth's sublime 'A Real Hero' for The 1975 in that aqueduct scene aside, it wasn't a total disaster. But the DJ's reimagining of the ineffably stylish thriller was still met with widespread scorn.
Admittedly, it was a strange choice of project (why mess with perfection?), although it's perhaps stranger still that altering the soundtrack from a film just three years old could be branded an act of sacrilege and defacement. But it's proof if proof were needed that scores worth their salt can quickly wedge themselves into the Zeitgeist and become as revered as the films themselves.
So will the same be said of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 in a few years' time? Lorde only knows…...

Rome, Ga. (AP) — Despite the wet and muddy conditions, the energy was high for Outkast's performance in their home state at the CounterPoint Music & Arts Festival. Organizers suspended the festival due to heavy rain and inclement weather, pushing Outkast's set back more than an hour Sunday night. But the Grammy-winning rap duo still put on an energetic show that kept the crowd jamming in the late hours. Outkast was one of the final acts to close out the three-day festival in Rome, Ga., which is about 60 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. The group, which consist of Andre "Andre 3000" Benjamin and Antwan "Big Boi" Patton, grew up in East Point, Ga. "I know you're all muddy and dirty," said a chuckling Andre 3000, who was wearing a white wig and a black jumpsuit with a white X on the chest. "And I know y'all are going to want to go home and take a shower.

With the arrival of the DVD release of “Frozen,” the soundtrack to the Disney animated feature is set to soar on next week’s Billboard 200. The title, which has already sold well over a million copies, could sell up to 225,000, according to Hits Daily Double, more than twice what it sold this week, and far outsells the DVD bounce seen by other hot titles such as “Lion King” and “Twilight.” With such a commanding number, it will easily outsell its closest competitor at least 4:1 to remain in top place. The will likely be five debuts within the Top 10, led by rapper Yg’s “My Krazy Life,” at No. 2, though it and Foster the People’s “Supermodel” are both slated to sell the same amount, between 55,000-60,000, so they are duking it out for the second spot. Likely coming in at No. 4 will be Skrillex’s “Recess,” which he dropped in the dead of night,...

American Idol’s top 10 finalists, who will all be invited to join the annual tour, were asked to perform Billboard hits on Wednesday night’s show. All in all, judges Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban seemed pleased with the singers' performances, with harsh criticism for just a few of the Idol hopefuls.

It's the Top 10 for "American Idol" Season 13, so the theme is a Top 10 hit post-2010 and it sounds like they have to use pop songs, no alternative charts, which proves interesting for some of the singers.
1. Mk Nobilette, "Perfect," Pink
Ok, there are three big things wrong with this song: Mk is not being rock enough for the edginess that Pink has to her singing -- she has no grit, no emotional connection. Secondly, her pitch is all over the map, she is so, so flat for most of it, and then in the middle, it's like she just stops singing for a bit. Finally, her stage presence is still incredibly blah. She just wanders around. Where's the energy? Are you on cough syrup? She's just plodding around the stage like a zombie. Blech, terrible. That was not a good performance.
2. Dexter Roberts, "Cruise," Florida Georgia Line

After breaking through with”Torches’” hit “Pumped Up Kicks,” the most uplifting infectious song ever about a serial killer, Foster the People returns three years later with its second album, “Supermodel.” “Supermodel” relies on synthesizers and electronics as “Torches” did, but also brings in other elements: lead singer and band namesake Mark Foster traveled to Morocco, as well as wrote an orchestral score for the film, “Bella,” and both of these experiences inform “Supermodel”: it is much more expansive in its musicality than “Torches.” For example, an African flair flavors opening track “Are You What You Want To Be,” after it kicks off with a straight-ahead guitar rock riff. Foster the People aren’t veering into “Graceland” territory by any means (or even Vampire Weekend’s “Contra”), but it’s nice to hear the trio stretching a little. Also added here are more acoustic elements: a lovely piano line runs through first single,...

Video: Foster the People Releases Teaser for 2014 Return Read what top critics are saying about Supermodel below: Billboard's Kenneth Partridge noted that Mark Foster "has neither gone punk nor embarked on a world music odyssey, and while there are touches of righteous anger and non-Western

Marvel Studios officially commences its Deep Cut era with this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a wild departure from the comic book adaptation factory’s previous (and hugely successful) franchise launches. The lead characters aren’t Avengers. Heck, most of them aren’t even human. And as the first official trailer makes clear, they’re definitely not golden-god heroes like billionaire Iron Man, super patriot Captain America, or actual-golden-god Thor. They’re misfits…in space.
Let’s dive in and take a look, shall we?
We meet lead human Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) as he tries to sneak into...

There are so many rituals associated with coming of age, whether it’s getting your school portrait taken, fending off bullies, having your first crush, or running from the cops after committing some minor prank. In Foster the People’s video for “Coming of Age,” several such milestones are addressed. As the band sings, different scenarios play out, all of them apparently united as coming of age moments. None of them leaves much of an impact and the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts, so it feels disjointed and not particularly impactful, although we do like the bullied mascot...

It’s been more than a minute since Foster the People broke through in 2011 with “Pumped Up Kicks” from its major label debut, “Torches.” The trio, led by Mark Foster, returns with a new album, the Paul Epworth-produced “Supermodel,” on March 18. First single, “Coming of Age,” hits airwaves today. Foster the People have shifted slightly away from their Beach Boys obsession (although only slightly given how the tune ends) and moved on to new wave and late-‘80s Brit Pop for “Coming of Age,” a shimmering, yet propulsive guitar-and-synth driven track. “I try to live without regrets,” Mark Foster sings, though...

Aaron Paul had a big part in planning his wedding to his wife Lauren Parsekian back in May of 2013.
The 1920s Parisian-carnival-theme with music by Foster the People and John Mayer? All his idea.
But the best part was the most romantic moment of the night that brought his new bride to tears.
In his cover story interview with Details -- on newsstands in February -- the "Breaking Bad" star reveals that he emailed the entire guest list the song "Beauty," by the Shivers, and asked everyone to learn the words.
"I tracked down the lead singer in Brooklyn," Paul says. "He's afraid to fly, so he drove all the way to Malibu. When he got to the song and everybody else joined in, Lauren just started weeping in the most beautiful way ever. It's all about embracing those moments, throwing in surprises whenever you can."

Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Film selected Ryan Koo, The Summer of Flying Fish director Marcella Said (right ont pic above) and Jordana Spiro (who we sang the praises for with her short 2013 Sundance-preemed Skin) are among the twelve plus participants for the upcoming 2014 Feature Screenwriters Lab (which takes place one week before the actual festival).
At this point, the lab have probably easily broke the one hundred project count (with a good percentage of them panning out into an eventual feature film – see Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station, Andrew Dosunmu’s Mother of George, David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and Andrew Renzi’s Franny as recent examples). The international class of January ’14 (read project descriptions and bios below) will be coached by no other than: Dustin Lance Black, Naomi Foner, John Gatins, Michael Goldenberg, Erik Jendresen, Patty Jenkins and Spaghetti Western fanboy and former lab attendee Quentin Tarantino.

When popular music is made correctly, it shows itself to be more than just a catchy tune and lyrics. It is a way to express a message or tell a story of importance to the artist.
And sometimes, these stories are far darker than originally perceived by the listener. Many popular bands of recent years have played this trick on unsuspecting listeners, from The Beatles and The Jam through to more modern day examples such as Foster The People. With examples of the themes hidden ranging from but not limited to, murder, drug abuse and suicide.
This list will hopefully illuminate my top ten picks of these darker sides nestled away in some of the most unexpected songs recorded. But without anymore hesitation let’s move on to the first song on the list which is…

Paul McCartney's career is still kicking through the singer's 70s, and that won't change anytime soon. The former Beatle told Wxrt Chicago that he has no intention of bowing out of the music business.
"For me, the main thing is I love making music so much," McCartney, 71, told the radio station. "If I retired, I'd still do exactly what I do. So I may as well not retire. Retire from what? I'd do this for nothing."
McCartney is living up to his sentiment, having just released a new Mark Ronson-produced single -- appropriately titled "New" -- this week. An accompanying album of the same name will arrive on Oct. 15. In addition to Ronson, other high-profile collaborators on the album include writer/producer Paul Epworth, who has worked with Adele and Foster the People, and Kings of Leon colleague Ethan Johns.
