London, July 31 (Ians) An extraordinary incident happened in the gripping fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval when England believed they dismissed premier Australia batter Steve Smith at the stroke of lunch on Day Five. But the batter was ruled not out, as England skipper Ben Stokes put down a crucial chance at leg slip.
The incident happened in the 66th over, with Smith batting on 39 when off-spinner Moeen Ali bowled a loopy delivery and the ball seemingly took the batter’s glove edge and popped into the hands of Stokes, who jumped to take a one-handed catch by fully stretching his right arm.
But the ball popped out of Stokes’ hands in a bid to land on the grass, before hitting the ground. Later, TV replays also seemed to suggest that Stokes was aware that it wasn’t a clean catch and was not in full control of the ball,...

New Delhi, Feb 18 (Ians) In India’s ongoing second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, talismanic batter Virat Kohli endured an unlucky lbw dismissal which sparked a lengthy debate on social media.
In the second session of Day Two’s play, Kohli was trapped lbw by debutant left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann on the third ball of the 50th over. When Kohli took a review, the UltraEdge showed there was a huge spike when the ball was between bat and pad.
After seeing multiple replays to and fro, TV umpire Richard Illingworth concluded that the ball hit the pad first and Kohli had to return to the pavilion courtesy of the umpire’s call, falling six runs short of his fifty at his home ground and stared towards on-field umpire Nitin Menon too while on his walk towards the dressing room, with the vociferous crowd falling silent.

New Delhi, Jan 23 (Ians) India’s left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has avoided a lengthy suspension on his attempt to deliberately appeal for a hit-wicket against New Zealand captain Tom Latham in the first Odi at Hyderabad.
A report in stuff.co.nz on Monday said under the Icc’s Code of Conduct, Kishan could have been charged with a Level 3 offence of attempting to gain an unfair advantage – which leads to a suspension of between four and 12 ODIs or Twenty20 internationals.
The incident happened on the fourth ball of the 16th over when Latham, playing his first ball of the match, went deep in his crease and tapped off left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav through the leg side.
Kishan suddenly went up in appeal and was joined in the same by captain Rohit Sharma. The square seg umpire instantly took the decision upstairs, mainly unclear as to what exactly had happened.

Nagpur, Sep 23 (Ians) A wet patch at the deep mid-on continued to delay the start of the second T20 International between India and Australia in the 2022 Series here on Friday and the umpires have deemed it too risky for the players. The umpires will have another inspection at 8.45 pm.
The wet area between wide min-on and deep mid-on is soft and moving underfoot and not safe for the players, the umpires K.N Ananthapadmanabhan and Nitin Menon concluded after a second inspection of the outfield at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (Vca) Stadium at Jamtha here.
The umpires had a chat with the two captains and informed them of their decision. They are now hoping that the ground staff could dry that particular area in the next 30-odd minutes and it could be safe for the players. Though the ground was under covers since Wednesday, rainwater seemed to have leaked at one or two places.
