Well-versed in the modern period drama with a twist, director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, The Favourite) had a simple edict for the costume design of Poor Things. As British costume designer Holly Waddington notes, “He didn’t want it to be like a period drama, he didn’t want it to be like a sci-fi film, and he didn’t want it to be too ‘fashiony.’ ” The result is Age of Innocence meets surrealism meets couture.
Adapted from Alasdair Gray’s novel, Searchlight’s Poor Things is a fantastical feminist fairy tale on steroids, where the character Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) is brought back to life with the brain of an inquisitive, no-holds-barred toddler by the Frankensteinish Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Set against a backdrop of London, Lisbon, Paris and Alexandria, the costumes support the narrative of a young woman’s social and sexual awakening.

YouTube’s biggest ad innovation for 2023? It might be borrowing a well-worn page from old-fashioned linear TV.
At the YouTube Brandcast upfront event Wednesday in New York, execs announced the introduction of 30-second unskippable ads in top-performing YouTube content on TVs — you know, just like the commercials that have run on broadcast and cable networks for decades. YouTube also will start testing new “Pause Experiences” for YouTube on TV screens, showing an ad when viewers pause a video akin to the pause ads Hulu first bowed four years ago.
In their pitch to Madison Avenue types, YouTube execs also boasted of the streaming service’s massive reach: More than 150 million unique viewers in the U.S. watched YouTube and YouTube TV on televisions for the month of December 2022, according to Nielsen estimates. YouTube remains the No. 1 most-watched service on TV screens in America (across both streaming platforms and traditional TV...

Fiverr‘s new publication is designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs “handle the ups and downs of the creator economy.” The online marketplace for freelance services has shared a ten-step Creator Economy Guide that includes testimonies from influencers, small business owners, and platform executives.
The Creator Economy guide is available through the Fiverr website. The company claims that aspiring entrepreneurs who follow the steps in the guide will be able to scale their businesses while harnessing the power of influencer marketing. Fiverr, citing a Forbes article, defines the creator economy as a $100 billion industry that encompasses 50 million people.
Not everyone can get the most out of that revenue opportunity, but Fiverr supports its report by sharing “stories, insights & tips from established influencers across the globe.” In tandem with agency partner Tailify, Fiverr surveyed a varied range of digital tastemakers. Lifetime's "Project Runway" ends its 10th season Thursday, Oct. 18, as it began it -- with a huge New York event.
The season premiered with a Times Square fashion show and ends with another, at Lincoln Center during Fashion Week. Since this happened in September, when there were eight contestants, each presented 10 looks.
Zap2it picked five of the most representative, which included high-glamour and high-concept, and "Project Runway" judge and Marie Claire Fashion Director Nina Garcia weighs in on the creations.

TheInsider.com caught up with Project Runway's most recent contestant to leave, Gunnar Deatherage. The southern designer opened up about his time on the Bravo show, being bullied, his distaste for NYC, Ven Budhu's incessant flower design and his very unusual name!
TheInsider.com: How are you feeling?
Gunnar Deatherage: I feel awesome.
TheInsider.com: You were on the first episode last season and were one of the four designers who didn’t make it to the actual show. How does it feel to come back and prove yourself a second time around?
Gunnar: I originally came on wanting to win. I realized halfway through that wasn't at all why I was there. I was there to prove to myself -- that I could compete and I could find myself as a designer - that's exactly what happened while I was there. It's not often you hit a second chance at something like Project Runway...

During Gunnar Deatherage's final "Project Runway" critique, the 22-year-old designer did not seem very impressed by what the judges were telling him. The morning after his elimination, he tells Zap2it that he was definitely over the competition at that point.
"I was very much over it," he admits on a conference call with reporters. "The competition was wearing me down. I don't know. ... The only point I needed to prove was to myself. What was going to happen was going to happen and it was out of my hands at that point."

In case there was any doubt that it's Fashion Week in New York, a glance around Lincoln Center reminds. Here, the usual skinny -- social X-rays who attend opera and ballet by night -- are replaced by the fashionista skinny, models who look as if they not had a good meal in, well, years.
Tourists line up, cameras poised. More proof that "Project Runway" remains a phenomenon in its 10th season is how hot this ticket is, how many layers of security even invited guests go through and how many fans wait outside, just for a glimpse.
The season finale is a fashion show, and at Fashion Week it takes on a patina. Inside the theater, the hosts and guest host, walk the runway to pose in front of banks of photographers. Judge and producer Heidi Klum rocks a draped, sequined, backless dress, and looks remarkable, even more so for a mother of four.

It's always hard to tell whom to root for in the beginning of a reality competition like "Project Runway" considering there are so many contestants in the mix that it's hard to keep them all straight. That was especially evident in the "Project Runway" Season 10 premiere episode, when it seemed like practically half of the designers weren't even mentioned until their models walked down the runway in the Times Square fashion show.
To be fair, that was probably because their designs were totally adequate and they had no real dramatic problems during their first challenge -- but it would've been nice to see a little more from people like Alicia Hardesty and Nathan McDonald, whose outfits seemed perfectly lovely coming down the catwalk. But there'll be time for them -- the show had plenty of drama queens to profile during its first episode.

When designers are told to present a piece that defines them, the results run from glamorous to comical.
They're on display in "Project Runway," returning for its 10th season Thursday, July 19. The first challenge for the 16 designers was to bring a piece that explains them as designers. Once in New York, they made an outfit to complement the first, and these were in a very special fashion show the night of June 15 in Times Square.
Nathan McDonald's flowing evening gown created the most stir among those watching that night.
"It was a fluid, feminine design," judge Nina Garcia tells Zap2it. "He is proficient in draping, and he has a great grasp of colors."
As the model walked, it billowed out as if she were floating. "There was a lightness to his clothes, and that lightness is not very easy to achieve," Garcia says.

The accessory wall is from Lord & Taylor, and one of the season's challenges will take place at Fashion's Night Out at the NYC Fifth Avenue flagship store in September. The winning model gets $25,000 and a spot in the Marie Claire feature.
Season 10 started filming with a live fashion show in New York City on June 15, guest judged by "Parenthood" star Lauren Graham.

A vomiting circus clown, a deeply disconcerted Nina Garcia, the complete absence of Mood Fabrics, and the curious incident of Tim Gunn using the phrase “pubic patch” rang in the wickedly entertaining Season 9 premiere of Project Runway on Thursday night. Yes, you read that correctly: Season 9. In other words, that Gretchen-over-Mondo catastrophe known as Season 8 actually did happen, no matter how much you’ve tried to convince your therapist it was just a lovely technicolor dream (featuring bedazzled skulls!) with a Nightmare on Drab Street ending.
But back to the season at hand: It’s always tough to form an...

Project Runway opened season 9 in New York City with Heidi Klum, Michael Kors,, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn all back to cut 20 designers down to the 16.
Thankfully, "Come As You Are" flew through the top 20 fairly quickly, as I always find these drawn out pre-show antics a bit painful. Being sent home just as they saw the brass ring were:
- David Chum, 29 from Boston, Ma. He was inspired by cocoons, but was sent back to waiting tables.
- Gunnar Deatherage, 21 from Louisville, Ky. The judges weren't impressed with his Derby gala creations.
- Amanda Perna, 26 from NYC, who I simply nicknamed "romper girl."
- Serena Da Conceicao, 31 from Brooklyn, NY. Serena postponed her wedding to be on the show. Ouch. That's got to hurt.
As for the top 16?
At 5 a.m., Tim Gunn barged into their bedrooms to inform our sleepy designers that they needed to get up and follow him,...

Project Runway kicks off its ninth season with the bombshell that the Top 20 designers still have to win their place on the show by impressing Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and mentor Tim Gunn with their designs. It means the end of the road immediately for David Chum, Gunnar Deatherage, Amanda Perna and Serena da Conceicao. The rest of the designers settle into life at their luxury apartments in Manhattan's Fashion District, but their first night in New York comes to an abrupt end when Tim arrives at 5am with the first challenge of the season. He tells them all to join him in the lobby wearing exactly what they wore to bed. They can also bring one sheet from the bed. After traipsing through Times Square wearing only their PJs, the designers arrive at Parsons where they are tasked with creating a look using only the clothes they wore to bed.
