Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel Anansi Boys is heading to the sequential art world of comics.
The 2005 novel, a New York Times best-seller that won the Locus and British Fantasy Awards, is being adapted by Dark Horse Comics, which has set screenwriter and comics author Marc Bernardin to pen what will be an eight-issue miniseries.
Shawn Martinbrough, perhaps best known as the longtime artist of the Robert Kirkman title Thief of Thieves as well as Marvel’s Luke Cage Noir, is drawing the book, which will have colors by Chris Sotomayor and letters by Jim Campbell. The first issue is due to hit stores June 26.
The novel told the travails of “Fat” Charlie Nancy, who leads a boring life as a boring Londoner until he discovers two things: that his recently deceased father was, in fact, Anansi, the trickster god of African folklore, and that he has a twin brother he’s never met.

Earlier this month, Kevin Smith revealed that he “lost a bet” to his frequent collaborator Jason Mewes and as a result had started writing the script for a third Jay and Silent Bob movie (following Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot). On the latest episode of the Fatman Beyond podcast he hosts alongside writer Marc Bernardin, Smith talked a bit more about the movie we’ll call Jay and Silent Bob 3 for now, saying that he’s working to take the script in unpredictable directions. He also said this Jay and Silent Bob movie might be the next film he makes!
Smith told Bernardin and the fans in attendance, “I’ve been working on not just finishing up (The 4:30 Movie), but working on the next one. I’m writing – I didn’t think I would do it for a long time, but I...

Comics Author James Tynion IV, Artist Christian Ward Team for Ghost Story ‘Spectregraph’ (Exclusive)
Modern horror comics master James Tynion IV has some new scare fare for 2024, this time a series for upstart publisher Dstlry.
The creator of acclaimed and best-selling comics Something Is Killing the Children and The Nice House on the Lake is teaming with Christian Ward, the writer-artist behind the current Batman miniseries Batman: City of Madness for Spectregraph, described as a ghost story steeped in the decay of a century of capitalism.
The logline is thus: For years, the mansion has sat strangely, nestled into the coastline just a short drive north of Los Angeles. Rumors have haunted the place for years, its owner a titan of American industry, with a strange fascination in the occult and the paranormal. For decades, the richest men and women in the country have whispered to each other, trying to understand what he was building alone in that mansion for all those years. And now finally,...

Fan favorite comics author Scott Snyder is jumping back into the horror field, this is time with a three-issue mini-series for upstart publisher Dstlry.
Titled White Boat, the comic will reteam the writer, who became a superstar thanks to his Batman work for in DC in the 2010s, with artist Francesco Francavilla. The two collaborated on a horror mini-series titled Night of the Ghoul, which is now set up for adaptation at 20th Century Studios with 21 Laps producing.
According to the publisher, the boats in White Boats are the mega-yachts that the super-rich use to traverse the globe. They are floating islands where your every desire can be fulfilled. Getting invited on board should be a dream come true…that is, until the crew traps and transports its guests to a remote island where secret cults have existed for millennia, working on something called “The Human Project.”

Kumail Nanjiani will not be returning to the Adventure Time universe in the new spinoff Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake and that’s because he was never informed of the offer to reprise his voice role of Prismo.
The new Max animated series will not have Nanjiani voice Prismo, something that the Eternals actor would have loved to have done again.
“Yeah that’s not me. I would have loved to have voiced Prismo again. He’s one of my absolute favorite characters I’ve ever had the honor of playing. He is very close to my heart,” Nanjiani shared in a since-deleted post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Unfortunately they never asked me to come back and voice him again. I would have done it for free.”
Showrunner Adam Muto replied to the actor denying that the production hadn’t reached out to offer him the Prismo role again.

Throughout the mythos concerning the character of Bruce Wayne aka Batman, there is a strong theme of predestination. While made explicit in only a few tales of the Dark Knight throughout the character's 84-year existence, there exists the idea that the orphan Bruce Wayne was able to mold himself into the figure of Batman partially because his whole life prepared him to do just that, mentally if not also physically and emotionally.
1995's "Batman Forever," the third in Warner Bros. and producer Tim Burton's series of live-action adaptations of the character, is one of the stories of the Caped Crusader that highlights this theme in a big way. In the film, Bruce (played by Val Kilmer) is troubled by recurring waking nightmares that psychiatrist Dr. Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman) deduces are actually repressed memories forcing their way into his conscious mind. In these visions, Bruce recalls the moments after his parents' untimely deaths,...

One of the most exciting comic book industry announcements this year has been the formation of Dstlry, a new creator-owned publisher where the creators own part of the company, including writers and artists such as James Tynion IV, Scott Snyder, Jock, and more. Taking its name after the whiskey aging process, the debut publication is cleverly titled The Devil's Cut, and is a collection of 11 short stories, eight of which lead into full series.
One of those teams creating a full series is James Tynion and Christian Ward, who have been working on a haunted house epic titled Spectregraph, which is also the first story in the collection. We're thrilled to exclusively reveal a new direct-to-consumer variant cover for The Devil's Cut from Christian Ward for "Spectregraph" available only through www.dstlry.co, along with some incredible concept art!

With great corporate power should come great responsibility. And with that ethos in mind, comic book creators joined Writers Guild of America members on the picket line Thursday, protesting what they called the exploitation of the most vulnerable.
About 40 or so creators (some WGA members, some not) joined the proceedings at one of the gates outside of NBCUniversal on Lankershim Boulevard, with writers such as Eisner winner Pornsak Pichetshote (The Good Asian), Marc Bernardin (Adora and the Distance, Picard), Jeremy Adams (Green Lantern), David Avallone (Elvira), Emmy winners Shawna and Julie Benson (Batgirls and the Birds of Prey), and Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson (Skyward). Rantz Hoseley, the Eisner-winning editor in chief of Z2 comics and independent filmmaker, organized the gathering.

Donald Glover is set to join Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel characters, as the star and producer of a movie based on the Spider-Man villain the Hypno-Hustler.
The project is in its earliest stages, with no script or director, but Myles Murphy (the son of Eddie Murphy) is attached to write the screenplay, reports Variety.
The Hypno-Hustler, who first appeared in Marvel comics in 1978, is one of Spider-Man’s more obscure villains, with the ability to hypnotise his victims with his guitar.
By day, he’s known as Antoine Desloin, lead singer of a band called the Mercy Killers – they use their music to rob their audiences.
As is the case with all of Sony’s live-action Marvel movies, Spider-Man himself almost certainly won’t be a part of the project. But Glover’s involvement is noteworthy for Spidey fans, as the actor-musician has been a fan-favourite to play the...

(The following article contains spoilers for "Clerks III." Please proceed with caution.)
When "Clerks: The Animated Series" debuted on ABC in the year 2000, fans of Kevin Smith's 1994 breakout film had many questions. The first one may have been, "Why did ABC cancel the show before airing all six episodes in their proper order?" Actually, the first question was probably, "Why did ABC agree to do a 'Clerks' show in the first place?" But at some point after that, the fanbase likely wondered if the cartoon was considered part of the View Askewniverse canon or not. Now, 22 years after Dante and Randal's stint on prime time television, they finally have an answer: Kind of.
After the events of the show weren't referenced in the 2006 sequel "Clerks II," Smith has finally acknowledged the ongoing adventures of New Jersey's favorite clerks in his movies thanks to "Clerks III." In the...

Last week, Justin Long mentioned that Kevin Smith had recently gotten in contact with him, Haley Joel Osment, and Genesis Rodriguez – his co-stars in Smith’s 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) – to let them know that a sequel to Tusk is in their future. After Long’s quote made the news rounds, Smith took the opportunity to confirm his Tusk sequel plans on an episode of Fatman Beyond, the podcast he hosts with Marc Bernardin. Although Smith has previously said he intended to put Long and Rodriguez’s Tusk characters in his killer moose movie Moose Jaws, the sequel he’s planning is not Moose Jaws. It is indeed a Tusk 2… or, as Smith is calling it Tusks. But the S at the end is a dollar sign: Tusk.

Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman took to Twitter on Monday to quash a conspiracy theory, centered on his 2007 Warner Bros. film, I Am Legend.
The theory, which has circulated at least since the beginning of this year, says that the fictional thriller is set in 2021, and that Covid-19 vaccines created its mutant epidemic.
“Oh. My. God. It’s a movie,” Goldsman tweeted on Monday. “I made that up. It’s. Not. Real.”
The Oscar winner was specifically responding to writer and podcaster Marc Bernardin, who earlier tweeted that, “We. Are. All. Going. To. Die. Sooner. Than. We. Should.”
Bernardin’s comments came in reference to an August 6 New York Times article—”Inside One Company’s Struggle to Get All Its Employees Vaccinated”—which alluded to an employee at a Bronx eyewear company who bought into the theory.

Mattel Television and Netflix released the first look “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” and it turns out the characters — including He-Man, Skeletor, Teela and Orko — look a lot like they did on the beloved 1980s animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” just a bit glowed up.
They also announced the show will premiere globally on July 23.
Since the series was announced in 2019, fans have been speculating just what executive producer and showrunner Kevin Smith — writer-director of “Clerks,” “Chasing Amy” and “Dogma” — would be doing with the property. As the images make clear, Smith and the team at Powerhouse Animation (also the animation studio behind Netflix’s “Castlevania” series) are paying homage not just to the look of the original series, but its storylines as well.

In 2016, Spike Lee was given an Honorary Academy Award for being “a champion of independent film and an inspiration to young filmmakers.” After Sidney Poitier, he was the second Black director to be so honored and said in his acceptance speech that it had “been a long time coming.” As he reflected on his long career, he said that it had “not been easy” and shed light on the struggles of Black creatives in the film industry. Indeed, there are still seven competitive Oscar categories in which a Black person has never won, including the most prestigious: Best Director. However, Lee may be the one to make Oscar history this year.
Lee’s 25th narrative feature film has been hailed as one of his greatest achievements since its Netflix release last June. Jocelyn Noveck of The Associated Press calls it “the right movie for right now,” citing the “current national reckoning over racial justice.

Batman Forever has surprisingly entered the extended cut conversation recently fueled by HBO Max’s upcoming release of director Zack Snyder’s originally-envisioned version of 2017’s Justice League, a.k.a. The Snyder Cut. Yet, while the theatrical version of the 1995 third film in the Batman franchise—unlike Justice League—did reflect the vision of its director, the recently-departed Joel Schumacher, it seems that a darker and much (much) longer version exists.
Citing a source close to the movie, Variety has confirmed the existence of a mega-sized 170-minute cut of Schumacher’s Batman Forever, which starkly contrasts with the standard theatrical version we all know, which runs at 121 minutes. The 1995 film stands as Val Kilmer’s lone onscreen tenure in the cape and cowl (enhanced by a nipples-laden bat-suit), joined by Chris O’Donnell as Robin and Nicole Kidman as love interest Chase Meridian, opposite an ostentatious rogues gallery of Jim Carrey...

Move over Snyder Cut, it’s time to discuss the Schumacher Cut! Namely, Joel Schumacher’s “darker” cut of “Batman Forever” that apparently exists even though no one knew about it until very recently.
According to Variety, the Schumacher Cut of “Batman Forever” does in fact exist, but it’s unclear if it will ever see the light of day. The discussion over this new version of the ‘90s superhero film directed by Schumacher first blew up thanks to writer Marc Bernardin tweeting something about a darker, longer version of “Batman Forever” that Schumacher cut together before the film was released.

Following the death of filmmaker Joel Schumacher last month, “Star Trek: Picard” writer Marc Bernardin ignited buzz on social media after tweeting about the potential existence of a 170-minute director’s cut of Schumacher’s 1995 comic book movie “Batman Forever.” The film was Schumacher’s first Batman movie and starred Val Kilmer as the Caped Crusader opposite Tommy Lee Jones’ Two-Face and Jim Carrey’s Riddler. Variety has now confirmed that a longer cut of “Batman Forever” does exist and includes more Carrey, a darker tone, and the inclusion of a bat the size of a human.
According to Variety’s report on the extended “Batman Forever” cut: “This version opens with a sequence involving the villain Two-Face escaping from Arkham Asylum and features extended scenes with the Riddler when he invades the Batcave and uses his signature cane as a weapon. The bulk of this version’s runtime focuses...

Holy cinematic mystery, Batman!
Last week, writer Marc Bernardin tweeted that he’d heard from “Very good authority” that a 170-minute cut of the 1995 superhero blockbuster “Batman Forever” from the late director Joel Schumacher exists, but that Warner Bros. was “unsure if there’s any hunger for what was described to me as a ‘much darker, more serious’ version of the film.”
Variety has confirmed with a source close to the movie that Schumacher did assemble a longer cut of “Batman Forever” that was indeed much darker in nature. Now that we’re living in a post “Release The Snyder Cut” world where that wish was eventually granted, what other alternate or extended cuts are out there? Well, as it turns out, there’s another one from the world of DC.
Writer and podcaster Marc Bernardin has revealed that there’s a three-hour director’s cut of Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. Barnardin said that the extra hour is much darker and delves deeper into Bruce Wayne’s personal demons. We already know that there’s a famous deleted scene of Bruce (Val Kilmer) confronting a giant bat in a dream sequence and it’s no doubt included in this extended cut.
“I have it on pretty good authority that there exists in the Warner Bros. vault a 170-minute cut of Batman Forever,” Bernardin told his co-host Kevin Smith. “I think that it went much deeper into his childhood...

Kevin Smith has defended Ray Fisher’s comments about Joss Whedon. The Cyborg actor recently posted a series of Tweets criticizing the on-set behavior of the Justice League director, revealing that the way he treated the cast was pretty terrible.
The conflict more or less began when Fisher posted a video of himself praising Whedon’s work on the superhero film at Comic Con. Stating he was retracting his positive statement, he went on to explain that Whedon’s behavior during the making of the movie was “gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable.”
Whedon – who was brought onto the project when its original director, Zack Snyder, left to process the suicide of his teenage daughter Autumn – has yet to comment on the accusations. In the meantime, one of Justice League‘s producers, Jon Berg, spoke out in Whedon’s defense.
Smith did not, however. Appearing on a podcast together with writer Marc Bernardin,...

Star Trek: Picard season 1 proved that the writers were keen to make it feel as contemporary as possible, despite its far-future setting, with the first batch of episodes of Patrick Stewart’s big comeback show dealing with hot-button themes such as the refugee crisis, racism and terrorism. Given that the world is currently in the grip of a pandemic, you might expect season 2 to dive into that well a little bit. However, it’s been confirmed that this isn’t in the planning yet.
Marc Bernardin has joined Picard for season 2 as its new supervising producer, but you might know him best as the co-host of Kevin Smith’s Fatman Beyond podcast. Is Peter Parker about to swing by Hell’s Kitchen?
That was the McU rumor ricocheting off the walls of the Internet earlier this week, when director (and all-around comic book veteran) Kevin Smith hinted that Daredevil may be making an appearance in Spider-Man 3 when it debuts in the summer of 2021.
It certainly makes sense, too, given the predicament Peter Parker found himself in towards the end of Far From Home. Spoilers: thanks to a last-minute twist of fate, Mysterio managed to frame Spidey, and it wasn’t long before J. Jonah Jameson – yes, the J. Jonah Jameson – framed Parker as public enemy #1.
Suffice it to say, Tom Holland’s Web-Head may need some legal help by the time Spider-Man 3 releases next year. And while many Marvel fans had their fingers (and toes!) crossed in the hope that Matt Murdock’s lawyer-by-day, crimefighter-by-night would be integrated into the story,...

Few movies have had as many delays as The New Mutants. The first trailer for the X-Men film arrived in October of 2017 and it was supposed to release in April the following year. Then it was delayed to February of 2019 due to reports of a disastrous production. That release date came and went, too, and August of 2019 became the new date of arrival. Then came the Fox purchase by Disney and the movie was in limbo under a new studio until yet another new release date of April 3rd, 2020 was set.
Since then, we haven’t heard too much more about the film, but at least we now have its rating confirmed. The original trailer touted a much darker tone within the X-Men universe and The New Mutants resembled a horror pic mixed with The Breakfast Club. This prompted fans to speculate whether it might receive an R rating. The possibility didn’t seem crazy,...

Much like the long-gestating Clerks 3 (another one of Kevin Smith’s passion projects), the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot spent so long teetering on the fringes of development, that many believed Smith’s larger-than-life pic would never see the warm light of day.
And yet, here we are, 24 hours before Fathom’s special two-day screening of the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot – for the record, the second leg takes place on October 17th, when viewers will be treated to a double bill with cult classic Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It’s not quite Infinity War/Endgame, but if it’s rib-tickling cameos and meta-humor you’re after, the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot delivers in spades.
Case in point: today brings a new (and likely final) trailer for the star-studded comedy, and it seems the editors have plucked a number of frankly incredible pull-quotes from users on Instagram.

Aside from a synopsis or some such thing, odds are we won’t know too much about The Batman‘s story until opening weekend. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t fall back on our comic book collections while boning up before venturing to the nearest cinema.
If any singular literary work is said to have influenced Matt Reeves while assembling his blockbuster, it’d have to be The Long Halloween. After all, we’ve been told to expect a film noir murder mystery, and few Batman comics have pulled off that element so well. Plus, Robert Pattinson himself did kind of hint at that recently, as did our trusted source flat-out telling us Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s 13-issue classic served as inspiration.
Another person seemingly confirming this notion is that of filmmaker and comic book writer Kevin Smith on an episode of his Fatman Beyond podcast.

As you may have heard, director James Gunn very recently put much speculation to bed when revealing the full cast for The Suicide Squad. For months now, we’ve all been wondering who’s staying and who’s going, and we finally got some answers.
Still, there are some big blanks left to be filled. It’s yet to be confirmed who Idris Elba is playing, though it’s most likely safe to say he’s Bronze Tiger. Another fella who continues to mystify us though is that of Nathan Fillion.
While discussing Task Force X’s next cinematic outing on his Fatman Beyond podcast, filmmaker and comic book writer Kevin Smith threw an idea out there, saying:
“So, he’s gonna be in Suicide Squad? Who do you think he could be playing? Oh my God, I don’t know s***, but let’s just play around because it’s fun.

The whole Sony vs. Disney saga is slowly calming down. The initial volley has been released and we have all reacted. This also includes the one and only Silent Bob aka Kevin Smith. One of the loudest voices in Hollywood released his emotions on his podcast Fatman Beyond. Love him or hate him, Smith has a great way of expressing what he is feeling but also does it with facts relevant to the situation.
He and co-host Marc Bernardin recorded the day the news broke and they riffed about it. I will put some excerpts and quotes from it but check the whole episode out at the bottom of the post. The Spider-Man conversation starts around the 40 minute mark.
Here is Kevin’s stance on the break-up:
I don't know if my disappointment is, 'Aw man, Kevin Feige is not gonna do Spider-Man,' although that's a big part of it,...

When it comes to comic book commentary, the Fatman Beyond podcast with Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin is second to none.
And in order to recap what’s been a bumper week for comic book news – both on-screen and off – the duo posted a super-sized two-hour episode late yesterday evening, with the crux of the conversation orbiting around Spider-Man.
Because unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 72 hours, far from the nearest Wi-Fi connection, you’ll know all too well that Sony and Disney’s 2015 agreement is dead, effectively bringing an end to Peter Parker’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s a news item that has prompted online petitions and a collective sense of confusion – if both parties were benefiting from Spidey’s tenure in the McU, why ruin a good thing?
But, of course, this deal is much more nuanced, as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that,...
