It’s the most, wonderful time, of the year. In two weeks I will be returning to my happy place, Cdmx, for the 2018 edition of the Morbido Film Fest. As always mi Familia de Morbido have put together a top notch program this year. I look forward to seeing who will win the battle of the Giallo projects, the Onetti Brothers’ Abrakadabra or Mirada de cristal from Ezequiel Endelman y Leandro Montejano who will be at the festival this year. I also look forward to discovering and giving focus to the other IberoAmerican films during the festival. International titles coming to Cdmx include Lifechanger, The Ranger, the amazing One Cut of the Dead, Mandy, Starfish, Cam, Luz, Violence Voyager and the sensually dangerous...

The fifth and final day of FrightFest wrapped up a packed weekend of festivities in fine style. Monster Squad fans got their fill from the European Premiere of documentary Wolfman’s Got Nards from child star turned director Andre Gower. The UK Premiere of horror anthology The Field Guide to Evil brought together the combined talents of Peter Strickland, Katrin Gebbe and Can Evrenol among others, but on a day packed with highlights, all roads inevitably led to the festival’s final spectacular, the UK’s first look at Gaspar Noe’s disco inferno, Climax. Crystal Eyes - European Premiere Spun out of a television episode, Crystal Eyes is a passionate ode to Dario Argento and the Italian giallo...

Cutting to the quick in Crystal Eyes
A model so hot that she bursts into flames on the runway. A tribute show planned one year later. A mysterious black-gloved killer disposing of the participants one by one. Ezequiel Endelman and Leandro Montejano's playful postmodern giallo, Crystal Eyes (Mirada De Cristal), is bound to entertain genre fans at Frightfest, not least because it packs so many in-jokes and so many murders into just 82 minutes. Ezequiel spared a few minutes to tell me about the film and the fun involved in creating the high fashion world in which it's set.
"Crystal Eyes was planned to be the third episode of a web-series we started filming in 2014," he says. "Each episode was supposed to pay homage to a different horror genre. We always love Giallo movies -their vibrant palette, the masked killer who seem unearthly, the...

As if the lineup for Arrow Video FrightFest 2018 wasn't impressive enough, the festival has added two films to its slate: David Barker's Pimped (touted as an erotic thriller with a touch of Hitchcock and Brian De Palma appeal) and screenings of the restoration of John Carpenter's classic Halloween! The guest lineup includes Barbara Crampton, Leigh Whannell, Shaked Berenson (Tales of Halloween), Issa López (Tigers are not Afraid), composer Fabio Frizzi, and many more!
Press Release: Two extra films have been added to the record-breaking 2018 line-up: Pimped is director David Barker’s modern transgressive erotic thriller, an Hitchcocktail of elevated suspense and shock in the revered style of Brian De Palma, And If you’ve never seen John Carpenter’s Halloween on the big screen, now’s your best chance. The inclusion of this 4K restoration needs no explanation in anticipation of a new Michael Myers slasher being released in October.

One of the takeaways from my trip to Morbido at the end of October was a sense that there is a burgeoning genre film community on the rise in Argentina. With films like What the Waters Left Behind from the Onetti brothers, Clementina from Jimena Monteoliva, Aterrados from Demian Rugna and Relicto from Laura Sanchez Acosta the country shows great promise as a key contributor to LatAm genre cinema in the years to come. Filmmakers Ezequiel Endelman and Leandro Montejano from Buenos Aires are looking to add their names to that cadre with their Argentinian Giallo flick Crystal Eyes (Mirada de Cristal). They graciously passed along the trailer for their film, along with a collection of bill cards as well. Buenos Aires,...
