There’s been a whole slew of television shows and documentary films about nostalgia lately, with many focusing on a number of toy lines from the 80s and other decades of the past. The Toys That Made Us is likely the most well-known of the lot, landing on Netflix, talking about toys from Star Wars to Lego to Transformers all the way to He-man. I am a nostalgia-head, a toy collector and a fan of the 80s, so when a chance to see this documentary, Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, came up, I jumped at it. A film talking about the history of the famous line of He-man toys from Mattel? I’m in. I grew up playing with wrestling figures, smashing Robotech toys together in a battle for supremacy, busting poltergeists with my Ghostbusters and kicking butt with my Hero Turtles.

If you’re a generation X kid (mid 30s to late 40s?) you will have encountered He-Man at some point. Whether it was the ubiquitous TV show or the even more ubiquitous figures, he was everywhere in the 80s. I loved the TV show, but was never a big toy guy, so it’s been interesting in recent years to listen to friends of mine who became collectors, talking about the various directions of the toys and TV shows over the years.
That’s why I was really pleased to discover the existence of this documentary, made by Randall Lobb and Robert McCallum, who’ve also made a bunch of other nerdy documentaries. Can it keep the interest of an at-best distant fan such as I?
Before I start: if I suddenly sound a lot smarter, that’ll be thanks to the input of my friend Alex,...

As a massive Conan fan, I for one welcome a new feature length documentary digging into the story behind one of the most indelible characters of 20th century literature and film - Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian warrior/king Conan!
For the last several months, with no financier or distribution in place, independent Canadian filmmakers Mark Hussey, Isaac Elliott-Fisher and Randall Lobb have been quietly making A Riddle of Steel: The Definitive History of Conan the Barbarian, a film that takes a detailed look at genesis and legacy of everyone's favorite barbarian.

Randall Lobb, the director for Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, wasn't always obsessed with those fighting turtles. "I wasn’t a huge Turtles fan before this project. I knew about it and it was a thing I was interested in," he told uInterview.
Lobb believes the new live-action film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles captures the essence of Tmnt. “I don’t have hopes. I know, I’m confident, that I will like it," he told uInterview. "[At Comic-Con], I saw footage and I was laughing because it was hilarious. I thought the action was bad-ass. The details of design are really cool.”
Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is available now on DVD.

Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a forthcoming documentary written and directed by Randall Lobb, that explores how the Turtles went from independent comic book to a global sensation that included cartoons, live-action films, video games and toys.
In the spring of 1984, a strange new comic book sat beside cash registers in select shops, too big to fit in the racks, and too weird to ignore. Eastman and Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles presented a completely original breed of super hero. It was too bizarre, too crazy. It broke all the rules and should never have worked. Until it sold out. Again and again and again. For 30 years. Now, peek under the shell and see how this so-called “happy accident” defied every naysayer to become one of the most popular and beloved franchises in the world.

Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a new documentary being released by Paramount Pictures. It takes fans through the humble beginnings of the Ninja Turtles all the way to the successful global phenomenon that it has become. The studio has released a short trailer for it that you can check out below.
The doc was started in 2008 by three hardcore fans: Isaac Elliott-Fisher, Mark Hussey, and Randall Lobb. They spent the next five years years shooting the doc in their spare time in-between their day jobs. They managed to land interviews with Tmnt creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, as well as Steve Barron, who was director of the original live action Turtles movie. They also talked to Brian Henson, who worked on the creation of the costumes for the original movie.
Turtle Power looks like a must watch for any true Tmnt fan.

If you grew up on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles you probably made it out Ok. It’s the kids who weren’t allowed to watch it or didn’t own a TV that you had to watch out for. Weird kids.
The Tmnt have been around for 30 years and now a documentary chronicling their history is coming soon. The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will look at the phenomenon that is/was Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and my favorite Raphael. There were toys, concerts, comics, cartoons and countless Halloween costumes – it was awesome. The movie is only 98 minutes so I expect it skip over the Power Rangers cross over among other fine details.

With the latest film based on the characters heading our way later this year, it seems only appropriate that Paramount should also pick up and distribute a labour of love by three part-time filmmakers who have spent years tracking down contributors for a documentary called Turtle Power about Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael, better known as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Check out the first trailer for the film. It feels like a smart move for the company, which can use the documentary to re-introduce the characters (though they’ve stayed popular through recent animated TV efforts) to a wider audience, while also catering to those who grew up with the Turtles in their lives. And, unlike some studio-spawned PR effort, this will have more candid interviews with original Turtle powerhouses Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, Brian Henson and Steve Barron, who worked on the original live-action film back in 1990.Isaac Elliott-Fisher,...

(Cbr) "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" celebrated its 30th anniversary last month, dating back to its humble beginnings as a black-and-white independent comic self-published by franchise creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Of course, "Tmnt" became one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of the late '80s and the early '90s, and continues to endure today -- with an animated series on Nickelodeon, a new live-action film imminently arriving in theaters and plenty of toys on shelves. The upcoming documentary "Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" aims to tell the story of "Turtles," its fans and the property's place in history, and Cbr has the exclusive first look at both the film's trailer and box art. Work on "Turtle Power" first started in 2009, with the producers stating more than a "hundred hours of interviews from every corner of the turtle world" were conducted for the doc.
