The first episode of Amityville: An Origin Story focused mostly on the house the Lutz family relocated to and began experiencing frightening things in. As questions about George Lutz’s spiritual beliefs were addressed, we learned that he had an attraction to the supernatural. However, George eventually conducted some research on the property and discovered that the previous owners, the DeFeos, had been murdered in the house. The revelation that Ronald DeFeo Jr., the family’s eldest son, murdered six members of his family tainted the entire situation. Let us look into the matter of whether there was truly a ghost in the DeFeos’ home or if it was all just a criminal matter.
Spoilers Ahead
The DeFeo Murder Incident
The second episode opens with some of the inhabitants of Amityville describing their neighborhood. Old Town Amityville on Long Island contains many residents who were relocated from Brooklyn. The DeFeos,...

Bumpy Johnson’s Harlem territory is under threat from the Italian crime families in the Godfather of Harlem Season 3 trailer, which TV Insider exclusively premieres above. Starring Forest Whitaker (Andor) as the infamous mobster, the third season of the lauded gangster epic will premiere Sunday, January 15 at 9/8c on the newly branded MGM+, formerly known as Epix. The Godfather of Harlem trailer confirms the return of Whoopi Goldberg (The View) as Miss Willa and introduces Michael Raymond-James as Italian mob boss Joe Colombo. Jason Alan Carvell will now play Malcolm X, replacing Nigel Thatch (who also played the civil rights activist in Selma). Godfather of Harlem tells a story inspired by infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who, in the early 1960s, returned from 11 years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. Season 3 will find Bumpy Johnson continuing to battle for control ...

“I realized there could be a gangster show that was the collision of organized crime and civil rights, and that turns out to be a Rubik’s Cube that’s incredibly difficult to solve,” declares Chris Brancato, co-creator and showrunner of “Godfather of Harlem,” which is set to premiere its anticipated third season on newly-named MGM+ (currently Epix). For our recent webchat he adds, “it was immediately apparent to us that by using the prism of the past, we could talk about things of contemporary relevance,” he explains. “What we also can see from the show is, on the one hand, things have changed greatly for African Americans. We’ve had an African American president. But on the other hand, things haven’t changed much at all, and so that’s what the show’s trying to articulate.” We talked with Brancato as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet...

Exclusive: Michael Raymond-Jamesn (Sweet Girl) has been tapped for the key role of mob boss Joe Colombo opposite Forrest Whitaker in the upcoming third season of Epix drama series Godfather of Harlem.
Created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem tells a story inspired by infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from eleven years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. Season 3 will find Bumpy Johnson continuing to battle for control of Harlem, with other aspirants to the throne, namely the Cuban Mafia from neighboring Spanish Harlem. Taking on the Cuban mob will put Bumpy, his loved ones, and his community in the crosshairs of not only the rival Italians, but ruthless Latin assassins and, ultimately, the CIA. Godfather of Harlem is a collision of the criminal underworld and the civil rights movement during one of the most tumultuous times in American history.

“It’s one of the icons of contemporary American cinema and I felt a tremendous responsibility,” declares Oscar-nominated production designer Laurence Bennett (“The Artist) about the challenges of designing “The Offer.” “The first time they called about seeing if I was interested in designing the project, I told my agent no, I was not interested because it just felt like there was great risk involved with messing with the classics,” he admits, adding for our recent Q&a, “I just found so much humanity in all the individual stories and everyone had so much investment in the project; it was incredible.” We talked with Bennett as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&a event with 2022 Emmy Awards contenders. As part of Paramount+’s “The Offer,” makeup designer Katy Fray had to recreate looks from “The Godfather.” That meant transforming Justin Chambers and Giovanni Ribisi into Marlon Brando and Joe Colombo, respectively.
Ribisi gained 30 pounds to play the part of crime boss Colombo. In addition to a few prosthetic pieces, Fray took to shaving back his hair to create a receding bald comb-over. He then added a little hairpiece to the top of his head to create a thinning look.
Fray says she and Ribisi “had to convince” director Dexter Fletcher that it was the right move. “Once it’s been taken off, it’s gone,” she says.
Brylcreem was her go-to hair product to keep the hair in place, and makeup for him was minimal.
On the other hand, the most daunting challenge was transforming Chambers into Brando’s Don Vito Corleone. Fray began by researching the work of Dick Smith,...

Exclusive: The Corleone family finally has come together for a real Italian dinner. In this clip from the May 12 episode of The Offer on Paramount+, Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) greets the cast of The Godfather for their first gathering before shooting commences on the film.
Much to Coppola’s delight, the actors immediately settle into their roles. Marlon Brando (Justin Chambers) sits at the head of the table and insists that his wife be served first. He then gives a speech thanking the group for attending his birthday meal.
The Offer is based on producer Albert S. Ruddy’s experience making the 1972 film that Coppola directed and adapted with Mario Puzo from Puzo’s bestselling novel. Besides Chambers and Fogler, The Offer stars Miles Teller as Al Ruddy, Matthew Goode as Robert Evans, Juno Temple as Bettye McCartt, Giovanni Ribisi as Joe Colombo, Burn Gorman as Charles Bluhdorn, Colin Hanks...

There is a whole lot going on with The Offer Season 1 Episode 4.
There's more Francoise than we deserve, Brando makes an appearance, big egos nearly come to blows, and Al gets a peek at a day in the life of Joe Colombo, and it scares the pants off him.
And finally, The Godfather gets the greenlight.
There's a line late in the episode that pretty much says it all where Al Ruddy is concerned.
It's what the movie needs.

That's a rarity in Hollywood, and it's hard not to imagine that it somehow played into why Ruddy was the last solitaire producer on a film in the business.
It certainly didn't do anything for his personal life, and it also jeopardized his burgeoning professional life.

Photo: ‘The Offer’ Here’s ‘The Offer’ Paramount’s new series ‘The Offer’ follows Albert S. Ruddy (Miles Teller) as he tries to produce ‘The Godfather.’ New to the producing game, Ruddy scrambles to string together a creative team with a limited budget and not enough time. Despite Mario Puzo’s (Patrick Gallo) book topping sales charts, the execs above Ruddy are wary about making a mobster movie, considering the genre dead. To make matters worse, Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi) of the Colombo crime family takes to protesting The Godfather at Italian-American Civil Rights League rallies. Taking the story to be insensitive and slanderous to Italian-Americans, the league aims to shut the movie down before it gets off the ground. A few bad actors even take to sending Ruddy and his executive producer Robert Evans (Matthew Goode) a message, if you know what I mean. Giovanni Ribisi goes big in the new miniseries, "The Offer." The actor, known for movies like "Saving Private Ryan" and "Ted," plays mob boss Joe Colombo. At first, he's one of the greatest threats in the show. Colombo wants to stop "The Godfather" from getting made, since he believes it'll reinforce stereotypes about Italian-Americans. Of course, he failed in killing the movie but maybe not for the reasons audiences might expect. You'll have to watch the series for the full story.

Regarded as one of the best films of all time, “The Godfather” was released in 1972. The film was adapted from Mario Puzo’s best-selling 1969 novel and is set in the 1940s, following the Mafia family the Corelones in New York.
Marlon Brando played The Godfather himself, Don Vito Corleone, who passes down his gangster ties to his sons Sonny (James Caan) and Michael (Al Pacino). Michael has distanced himself from the involvement of his family in crime, but he comes back into the fold after violence claims his Sicilian wife, and he returns home to marry Kay (Diane Keaton) a non-Italian.
The film won the Oscars for Best Picture, Actor (Brando) and Adapted Screenplay and gave birth to one of the best sequels ever made. And now, the story behind the story is being told.

Tremendous forces came together during the production of “The Godfather,” helmed by producer Albert S. Ruddy for Paramount, back when Robert Evans was head honcho under owner Charles Bluhdorn. As if the pressure from the Paramount executives, especially Barry Lapidus weren’t enough, Ruddy also had the particular tastes of Francis Ford Coppola to appease in order to keep him on board the project and to expedite the writing process of the book’s author Mario Puzo.
Add in threats mobsters like Joe Colombo, as well as very specific casting choices, and Ruddy definitely had his hands full. It was worth it in the end: “The Godfather” is one of the best movies ever made. But the process of getting it made is the focus of the new Paramount+ limited series “The Offer,” which premieres on April 28.

A new star-studded TV series about the making of “The Godfather” arrives on Paramount Plus this week.
Set in the early 1970s, “The Offer” follows the notoriously rocky production process that Paramount Pictures went through while adapting Mario Puzo’s best-selling novel for the screen. At the center of the series is producer Albert Ruddy, played by Miles Teller, and his quixotic effort to create the Mafia family drama amidst tension between himself and director Francis Ford Coppola, and the infamous tale of how mob boss Joe Colombo signed on to help with the production.

Early in Paramount Plus’ new limited series “The Offer,” movie mogul Robert Evans is delivering a soliloquy about the moment he discovered his destiny. “It was magic,” he declares. “Real magic. I knew right then and there this was my calling. That darkened movie theater became my church.”
As played by Matthew Goode, Evans is a real fake — a glottal-voiced fellow who convinces himself, first, of the pabulum he pitches others. And his declaration of movie madness, the first but hardly the last such speech he’ll give over the run of “The Offer,” sits oddly against the show’s ambitions. This program insists that movies are important, and does so by pulping perhaps the most celebrated film of the second half of the twentieth century and using it as fuel for a diverting but hardly cinematic streaming series.
Streaming-age Paramount Plus is looking back to New Hollywood Paramount Original Formula.

From the day Nicole Clemens took the reins of Paramount Television Studios in 2018, she fielded calls about whether “The Godfather” was available for development as a TV series.
The answer was always no. “The Godfather” — Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 masterpiece that begat 1974’s “The Godfather: Part II” and 1990’s “The Godfather: Part III” — is among the most valuable assets in the Paramount Pictures vault.
Clemens couldn’t help thinking about all of those inquiries a year later when she took a general meeting with nonagenarian producer Albert S. Ruddy, whose quirky résumé ranges from “The Godfather” to “Hogan’s Heroes” to “Walker, Texas Ranger.” As he regaled her with tales of his transformation in the late 1960s from a computer programmer for Rand Corp. to Hollywood producer, she began to think that Ruddy’s story of breaking in as an outsider could be the Pov for a series about the making of “The Godfather.

Why is The Offer recommended viewing?
Matthew Goode.
He's so good as longtime producer and Paramount Studios head Robert Evans that you cannot take your eyes off of him, and anything that doesn't work about The Offer is swept under the rug.
Goode's performance is brilliant as he transforms from the actor we've known from The Crown, A Discovery of Witches, Downton Abbey, and The Good Wife into Evans so entirely that it seems as if The Offer was always intended to be his vehicle.
Miles Teller might disagree, as he portrays The Godfather's sole producer, Al Ruddy, and the man from whose book The Offer is adapted.
And to be fair, Teller does a decent job with the material. He makes quite the show of Ruddy's unlikely tale about the mob being as entrenched in The Godfather's production as Mario Puzo (Patrick Gallo) and Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler...

Paramount+ is about to make you an offer you can’t refuse. The streaming service announced back in 2020 that, along with their rebranding from CBS All Access to Paramount, that they would be bringing audiences a limited series about the making of “The Godfather” titled “The Offer.” The move was met with some raised eyebrows as it seemed like a push for the burgeoning streamer to mine from its extensive, existing intellectual property.
In an ironic twist, similar to production of the film it is discussing, “The Offer” has had a rough road to completion. In 2021, “Top Gun: Maverick” star Miles Teller was brought in to replace Armie Hammer as Albert Ruddy. After that, the series had to pause production after one of the cast tested positive for Covid-19. But, thankfully, the show did go on and now audiences are just a week away from seeing what is on tap with “The Offer.

It is a story steeped in action and intrigue, but is it true?
The Offer, a new 10-part series starting April 28 on Paramount+, delivers an “inside” account of the making of The Godfather. It is a story about stalwart filmmakers who defied bullets and death threats from Mafia soldiers to deliver their great saga.
But not really. The TV series, written by Michael Tolkin, is loosely based on incidents and anecdotes supplied by Albert S. Ruddy, who produced the movie. They are vivid anecdotes, but they are at odds with the accounts of principals who made the movie — of which I am one — and who encountered a different reality.
The Italian-American activists who took an interest in the project in fact revered Mario Puzo’s bestselling novel and were desperate to find a way of mobilizing the film to raise funds for their own causes and charities. “The principals of the movie were celebrated,...

If that weren’t enough, now soon Paramount + will offer a chance to go behind-the-scenes with a limited miniseries, chasing the dragon, it seems, of recent Ryan Murphy hits. “The Offer,” written by Michael Tolkin (who made his movies-about-The-Movies bones with “The Player”) with episodes directed by Dexter Fletcher, has as its lead not Coppola or the Paramount’s charismatic head of production Robert Evans, or Brando, or even Mario Puzo, but the man who picked up the Best Picture trophy on Oscar night, Albert S. Ruddy.

Paramount Plus has released the official trailer for “The Offer,” the upcoming drama miniseries that chronicles the making of “The Godfather.”
Set in the early 1970s, “The Offer” stars Miles Teller as Albert S. Ruddy, who is hired as the producer for the film adaptation of the best-selling novel “The Godfather,” written by Mario Puzo (played by Patrick Gallo). While the series faces typical behind the scenes tension between its director Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) and producing team, the filming grows more complicated when mob boss Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi) signs on to help assist in the production. In addition to Teller, Gallo, Fogler and Ribisi, the series will also star Matthew Goode, Juno Temple, Burn Gorman and Colin Hanks.

The Godfather faced many hurdles in its journey from page to screen. That’s the big takeaway from the full-length trailer for The Offer, Paramount+’s forthcoming limited series centered on Albert S. Ruddy’s extraordinary, never-before-seen experiences making the iconic crime saga.

Paramount+ is trying to make an “Offer” no one can refuse.
The 10-episode limited series, “The Offer,” about the true story behind making the “The Godfather,” arrives just in time for the half-century anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola’s Academy Award-winning epic. The show debuts April 28.
Dan Fogler plays then-studio-newcomer director Coppola (hot off indie “The Rain People”), who is tasked with bringing Mario Puzo’s novel to life for Paramount Pictures. The studio wanted “someone who understands Italians” to direct the feature, and while Coppola’s Italian roots made him a prime choice to helm the feature, it was clear that traditional gangster movies were “dead” by the early 1970s. A big-budget gamble was a high risk for Paramount at the time.
But it was up to Coppola and his Italian-American vision to save the picture. From including scenes that focus on family and heritage instead of mafia members,...

It’s the 1970s in Los Angeles and some shady studio guys are trying to get a movie made. But some dangerous criminals are rather put off by the concept and would like it not to happen. Will they manage to work things out? That’s question posed by the trailer for the upcoming Paramount+ miniseries “The Offer,” which you can watch now.
Of course, by now you know the movie in question was “The Godfather” and that this show is based on things that actually happened, so of course they managed to work it out. The how of that is the focus of the 10-episode event, however. Expect to see a lot of 1970s Los Angeles sleaze, 1970s New York grime, and plenty of that Hollywood magic, baby. Also, since Robert Evans is a character, probably lots of cocaine.

Justin Simien is officially taking on a 1980s classic.
The “Dear White People” creator is set to adapt and direct a modern retelling of 1983 Paramount Pictures film “Flashdance,” which originally starred Jennifer Beals as a steel mill worker with ballerina dreams.
“Bad Hair” director Simien signed an overall deal with Paramount Television Studios in August 2021 after adapting his own Lionsgate film “Dear White People” for Netflix. The TV series concluded last September after four seasons.
The Paramount+ series was announced on February 1, following the project’s first stab at development at CBS All Access in October 2020 with Tracy McMillan writing and Angela Robinson directing, as Deadline reported. The former CBS project was slated to center on a young Black dancer who worked at a strip club while “struggling to find her place in the world while navigating romance, money, art, friendship, and how to love herself” on the road to becoming a ballet star.

Exclusive: Filming on The Offer, Paramount+’s upcoming limited series about the making of The Godfather, was suspended due to a positive test in the central Zone A that includes the cast and those interacting with them, Deadline has learned.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily halted production on The Offer due to the return of a positive coronavirus test result during routine testing,” a rep for series producer Paramount Television Studios said in a statement to Deadline about the production pause, which came Wednesday. “We will continue to follow all safety protocols and monitor the situation closely.”
The development comes amid a surge of the Delta Covid variant in Los Angeles. HBO’s Westworld and FX’s American Horror Story also recently paused production over positive Covid tests.
