This review is based on the first four episodes of season 1, made available prior to broadcast for reviewing purposes.
It’s hard for someone who has never experienced the sudden loss of a loved one to truly understand grief.
To those in its throes, it’s all-consuming, an unceasing barrage of waves constantly crashing down, threatening to wash away every sensation – save pain. Grief is always present, a physical burden as well as an emotional one, a pit in the stomach and in the mind, alternately bearable and overwhelming. Immediately after a loss, those waves come fast and ferociously, stymying all effort to break free and take a simple breath. One quite literally feels that they are drowning.
As the days turn to weeks, the weeks turn to months, and the months turn to years, though, those waves arrive less frequently. In the lull between them, mourners can begin to rebuild,...

When Fox's "Gracepoint" premiered this fall, I was at a loss for what to say about a show that was a beat-for-beat, and often shot-for-shot, remake of a series I knew and liked very much in "Broadchurch." The argument Fox and the "Gracepoint" producers made was that their show wasn't made for the hundred thousand-odd viewers who watched "Broadchurch" on BBC America, but for the potentially much larger audience that might be engaged by the story and the fine cast assembled to act it out, and I could see the merit to that(*), even as it was impossible for me to divorce myself from knowledge of the original. (*) Technically, Fox was right: the "Gracepoint" audience was Much larger than the American "Broadchurch" audience, but was still a failure by broadcast network standards. "The Returned," A&E's remake of the the French series "Les Revenants" — which has already aired on Sundance under the title "The Returned,...

Jason’s death is the biggest blow delivered by the Patriots this week, a blow compounded by the fact that the fatal shot was fired by Charlie. In a week seemingly full of game-changing episodes, the new Revolution episode is no exception. We got a taste of it at the end of last week’s episode, and oh kids, just wait til you see. This season has been excellent and just keeps getting better.
First, though, some reminders and some setup. Below is the “Revolution Revealed” featurette, which reminds us that David Lyons (Monroe) is charmingly Australian, and as it happens, enjoys singing Poison songs. But after we see a bit about Mat Vairo‘s Connor, Tracy Spiridakos‘s Charlie (who is looking increasingly like Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which equates to “pretty awesome”), and Giancarlo Esposito‘s Tom Neville, you’ll see Billy Burke talk about the new direction of the story in the next episode.
