To mark the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s series premiere, TVLine spoke to a few of its key players. Our final installment: star Nicholas Brendon.
If Buffy Summers was Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s strong arm and Willow Rosenberg was its brain, Xander Harris was its heart.
And as that heart — or the “scared guy with a rock,” as Xander calls himself in Season 2’s “Becoming” — portrayer Nicholas Brendon never wanted the character to have any special abilities, he tells TVLine.

Most of us have long heard the fun fact that the role of Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece Alien was originally written for a man. Emmy Rossum’s gorgeous New York City apartment oozes European chic — think fireplace mantels picked up at the Paris flea and gilded antique tables — with cool girl touches like a bar cart and modern art. To rocket or not to rocket - that is the question. We revisit some memorable appearances of rocket launchers on the small screen...
In the episode Innocence from Buffy The Vampire Slayer's second season, Joss Whedon provides a glorious moment of Beelzebub-busting ballistic mayhem, an explosive denouement that's the icing on the cake of an already delicious hour of television.
“The two things that matter the most to me,” explains a resolutely pro-rocket Joss Whedon in the audio commentary for Innocence, “[are] emotional resonance and rocket launchers. Party Of Five, a brilliant show - and often made me cry uncontrollably - suffered ultimately from a lack of rocket launchers.”
Amen, brother. The rocket-launcher is perhaps the least subtle of the ground-based combat weapons. For that reason, among many others, there are very few shows, outside of those depicting actual wars or demonic showdowns, that can smuggle the...

Normally, you’d hear no complaints from me about Mistresses‘ Josslyn Carver hacking a rival’s cell phone, using his rotten texts for her professional gain, then celebrating with a giant glass of vodka (followed by a beer in a plastic cup).
After all, I cheered wildly in previous seasons when she explored the world of Japanese bondage rope, attempted to seduce her boss’ husband as part of a sex-lies-and-videotape sting operation, and work-work-work-worked from home* with her sister’s ex-husband. Oxford's finest, DC Morse, is back where he belongs in Endeavour's solid series 3 opening episode...
This review contains spoilers.
3.1 Ride
Endeavour’s second series ended its run back in April 2014, leaving us desperate to find out how the events of its final episode would be resolved. We last saw the young Endeavour Morse in prison, falsely accused of the murder of Chief Constable Standish. His mentor, Detective Inspector Fred Thursday, was at death’s door after his shooting by the real killer, corrupt Assistant Chief Constable Deare. Would Morse be freed, and would Thursday survive the attack? The first of those questions wasn’t too hard to answer for long-time fans of the future Inspector Morse, but the second was considerably more troubling.

HitFix certainly doesn't lack for coverage of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," including Drew McWeeny's review and the whole staff picking the best and worst parts of the film. But as someone who's been writing about Joss Whedon's work for a long time, and as someone who's been covering "Agents of Shield" this season (more on that in a bit), I wanted to offer some thoughts on the movie, its place in both the Marvel filmography and Whedon's, with lots and lots of spoilers for the film (so beware), coming up just as soon as I remodel the dining room... I have to admit to feeling a certain level of dread as "Age of Ultron" approached. The first "Avengers" was a fun movie, and a culmination of all the things Whedon had been doing on both the small and big screens. This is a weird thing to suggest about...

The first "Avengers" movie was supposed to incorporate Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), a lethal sharpshooter who works for S.H.I.E.L.D. and who, after being briefly introduced in "Thor," would have taken a much larger role in the superhero team-up movie. But then, after being on-screen for about 15 seconds, the character was hypnotized by Loki into doing his evil bidding and ostensibly written out of the movie until the final action sequence in New York City. That's when Hawkeye really shined... the other two hours of the movie, not so much.
So it should delight and surprise just about everyone that Hawkeye pretty much steals the show in this week's "Avengers" sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." The last few years, some network TV executives have tried to do away with the pilot process, ordering shows straight to series based on a script, or even an idea, rather than spending a lot of money filming a pilot episode before deciding whether it's good enough to order to series. This is essentially like deciding to build a house on land that hasn't been surveyed yet and hoping that it'll hold the structure. The results have gone about as expected: "Hieroglyph"(!) was pre-canceled before a second episode was filmed, NBC decided to sell "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" to Netflix rather than have to cancel it after three episodes aired, and other straight-to-series orders have been delayed, or similarly pre-canceled, or (as in the case of Fox's "Weird Loners") sent off to die quietly. Netflix has had more success doing away with pilots, but that's in part because no one but...

A new featurette for Avengers: Age of Ultron takes viewers behind the scenes with director Joss Whedon and the cast.
The Avengers sequel is the most star-studded Marvel movie ever, with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson welcoming Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen to the franchise.
"In this one, we're together a lot," Jeremy Renner says in the teaser. "It's great for us - terrible for [director] Joss [Whedon]! It's tough to wrangle ten crazy actors who love each other."
Whedon adds: "Them having a comfortable ease with each other is a delight. Every now and then, it's an exhausting delight!"
Writer-director Joss Whedon's highly-anticipated sequel deals with a peacekeeping artificial intelligence created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) that chooses to eliminate humanity.
Whedon has told Digital Spy that he conceived of Avengers: Age of Ultron as a blend of science fiction and horror.

The two biggest additions to the "Avengers" ensemble in next month's "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" are Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. They play a key role in the mega-sequel, and they manage to create some interesting tensions for both the heroes and the villains in the film. Olsen was the first to sit down with us on the set, and we jumped right in, having already heard a number of things about her character from the rest of the cast. Can you talk about your Eastern European accent? (looking at the Marvel producers) Can I talk about it? We know that we're from Eastern Europe, so, okay, so, yeah, it’s something that we got to create. It's a make believe place, so it's something that Aaron and I, with the dialect coach, kind of created together. What's the name of the fake country? That I can't talk about, but it's,...

Joining a team as closely knit and unforgettable as "The Avengers" has got to be something of a challenge, even for an actor like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has gamely appeared in "Kick-Ass" (and its follow-up) and last year's mega-successful "Godzilla" reboot. "Avengers: Age of Ultron," after all, is the sequel to the most successful superhero movie of all time, and one that stars a chummy group that includes Robert Downey, Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner.

London - So far, we've run our conversations with Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Joss Whedon, and Chris Hemsworth, and next up is the first conversation we had for the day, with none other than Chris Evans. He was actually the first sign we saw after entering the Shepperton Studios lot that we had crossed into Marvel's world. A golf car drove by us with Captain America sitting next to the driver in full costume. That's one of those things that is so surreal that it took us all a moment to register what had just happened, and by that point, they had looped back around to say a formal hello. When we sat down to talk to Evans, he joined us in the shadow of the Quinjet, a full-size set that was pretty much completely immersive when you stepped inside. Evans is always one of the most no-nonsense and...

When Chris Evans stopped to talk to a small cluster of journalists on the set of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the actor was on the way to fight training. This is fairly typical of a huge, $200 million blockbuster, especially when it's the sequel to the highest-grossing superhero film of all time (after all, it has to be bigger, badder, and with lots more fighting). But what was slightly out of the ordinary was that Evans was outfitted in all of his Captain America regalia. So instead of Chris Evans sitting down to talk to us about how the events of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" effect the hero in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and what the sequel has in store for the red-white-and-blue patriot, we were chatting with Captain America. It was awesome.
It should also be noted that Evans has been seen, at least publicly, as the least approving member of Team Marvel,...

The first thing that you need to know about actually meeting Chris Hemsworth is that he's huge. Like the kind of huge that you imagine him having to turn sideways to fit through doorframes. He is every bit the god that he plays in the Marvel movies and on the day we were visiting the set, he stood side-by-side his stunt double and for size and height and muscle mass, easily dwarfed him. Chris Hemsworth does not mess around. And in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," he really means business.
For most of the day we got to watch a scene where Hemsworth, as mighty Norse warrior Thor, was battling The Vision, a new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (portrayed by Paul Bettany, who up until this point had been heard but not seen in the McU as the voice of Tony Stark's electronic butler Jarvis). Bettany looked amazing, with...

According to a recent report from Comicbookmovie.com and their sources, "Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron" movie director, Joss Whedon served up some new details for what we can expect the appearance of The Vision to be like in the film, along with the stunt work and other things like that. It turns out that Joss wanted Paul Bettany to play The Vision way before he even wanted to make an Avengers flick, claiming it's the cheek bones, lol! Here's what Joss told the press: "No, we make them as close as we can. The stunt guy, we have to make allowances for the shape of his face and padding and things that we’re putting on him, but they’re not meant to look different. Basically, what usually happens is, one of the guys, Ryan Meinderding or one of the guys on his staff draws something unbelievably beautiful, and...

Sarah chats to Angel's Christian Kane about new Syfy show The Librarians, Joss Whedon, Jason Statham and more...
Libraries are a little bit magical, aren’t they? They’re one of the few places you’re still asked to be quiet and reverential; they’re packed full of all sorts of knowledge and stories; and they’re organised due to some kind of arcane system that the average person on the street won’t have a hope of navigating. Okay, so nowadays you can learn pretty much anything you want to know just by firing up Wikipedia, but there’s still something impressive about all those words being housed in one place. In both Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, libraries are places for arcane magic to take place.
In a series of TV movies from the early 2000s starring Noah Wyle, librarians are mystical guardians of all kinds of magic.

With 145 to choose from, Carley picks 10 of the best Buffy The Vampire Slayer episodes. Does your favourite make the grade?
Contains spoilers for Buffy The Vampire Slayer seasons 1 - 7
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Buffy The Vampire Slayer is one of the best shows to ever grace the airways. It was funny, it was smart and it resurrected the vampire in pop culture. Running over seven seasons from 1997-2003 we were introduced to Buffy and her friends as they save the world while trying to make their way through something even scarier, high school.
Picking the top ten episodes hasn't been an easy job, and I can guarantee that not everyone is going to agree with the choices here. After all, I could probably go for a top 100! But below are, in my humble opinion at least, the best that Buffy ever had to offer.
