Comedian Robert “Bo” Burnham’s fourth standup special “Inside” began streaming on Netflix May 30 and plenty of viewers have nothing but praise for the show.
In true coronavirus pandemic fashion, Burnham’s special was filmed and performed entirely in one room. NPR called it “isolation theater.” It’s basically an exploration of what happens inside the mind of a comic who’s forced to do standup for really no one but himself for a whole year — and the mental toll that the coronavirus has taken on all of us.
Actor Jim Beaver said he was surprised by the special: “I just watched Bo Burnham: Inside on Netflix. Brilliant, frightening, beautiful, disturbing stuff. I was expecting a pretty good comedy special. I wasn’t expecting this. This is something entirely different, something entirely new. It’s dark. Great songs. It may be genius.”

Jack And Dean Of All Trades may have ended after two seasons when Fullscreen shuttered its eponymous subscription service, but beloved YouTube duo Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs are getting back on the saddle with a brand new project -- which is being developed through the Sundance Institute and YouTube’s New Voices Lab.

This year’s class will comprise 12 total creators (and creator teams) who each have a digital series pilot in the works. Howard and Dobbs will be joined by other participants, including Pakistani-American documentarian Sindha Agha, comedy duo Anna Salinas and Edgar Momplaisir, and YouTuber Andy ‘Goldentusk’ Goldenberg. The 2018 Golden Globe nominations didn’t come without a little backlash.

Familiar names like Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan and Guillermo del Toro were all honored this year, leaving out celebrated female directors Greta Gerwig, Patty Jenkins and Dee Rees.
