Highland Film Group shared a first look at “London Calling,” an action-comedy that reunites director Allan Ungar with star Josh Duhamel after the success of the action heist thriller “Bandit.”
Film also stars Jeremy Ray Taylor, Rick Hoffman and Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”)
Written by Omer Levin Menekse and Quinn Wolfe, “London Calling” sees mediocre hit man Tommy Ward (Duhamel) go on the run and get stuck in L.A. after mistakenly killing a relative of London’s biggest crime boss (Gillen). To get back to his son on the other side of the pond, Tommy makes a deal with his new employer (Hoffman): teach his socially awkward teenage son Julian (Taylor) to be a man, in exchange for safe passage. Tommy is now forced to drag Julian, afraid of his own shadow, along on his latest contract killing of a renowned assassin. What starts off as a...

One of the most celebrated cinematic interpretations of Stephen King is the two-film adaptation of his seminal horror novel "It." Directed by Andy Muschietti, with the movies released in 2017 and 2019, "It" follows the twisted coming-of-age of a group of childhood friends in Derry, Maine. While the seven kids are harassed by neighborhood bully Henry Bowers (Nicholas Hamilton) and his gang of teenage ne'er-do-wells, a different kind of evil festers under Derry. Primarily appearing in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård), this otherworldly monster instills fear in its young victims before consuming them entirely.
Though the creature has haunted the region since ancient times, the first chapter takes place in the summer of 1989. That's when Pennywise surfaces to claim new victims around Derry while setting its sights on the main characters. Finding strength and solace in numbers, these friends refer to themselves share a bond under the banner...

From the moment The Haunted Mask hit TV screens one chilly October afternoon in 1995, Goosebumps fans the world over knew that a movie was only a matter of time.
Those were the days of Goosebumps bedding sets, green and purple wrist watches bathed in cobwebs and time spent begging parents for the $8.95 (plus $2 shipping and handling) so that one might join the hallowed, card-carrying ranks of the Official Goosebumps Fan Club. Bookmobiles everywhere overflowed with copies of Night of the Living Dummy II and The Barking Ghost and the silver screen was ripe for the kind of wicked playfulness and fiendish glee that only R.L. Stine could deliver.
But adolescent aficionados of the spooky and the strange never saw their dream of a 90s big screen Goosebumps adventure realized. Monster kids grew into horror loving adults before Slappy and his gang of sinister monstrosities escaped the pages of R.L.

Thirty years on from its dissolution, the legacy of apartheid still weighs heavily on South African cinema, as a new, outspoken generation of Black filmmakers grapples with truths and wounds that they previously had limited scope to voice. But rage over the past fuses remarkably with assertive, forward-looking investment in the future in “Milisuthando,” a self-titled and duly self-searching documentary from artist turned filmmaker Milisuthando Bongela. With spiky candor and a flourish of personal poetry, Bongela’s debut feature probes her experience as a millennial Black woman who only began reckoning with apartheid as her country was stumbling out of it.
Despite a slightly slack two-hour-plus runtime, this inventive standout from Sundance’s world cinema documentary competition should easily find a home in future docfest programs, and with specialist distributors and streaming platforms.
As she explains in her running, mellifluous narration, Bongela is a child of a country that no longer exists.

"It" is one of Stephen King's most beloved novels. The horror story has terrified readers since it debuted in 1986. "It" features some of the most disturbing moments that King has ever created, and that's no small statement. While the story itself is horrifying, "It" explores the lasting impact of childhood trauma. The coming-of-age elements make "It" one of King's most heartfelt stories. Children and adults can feel inspired by seeing the Losers' Club overcome their fears.
Given the book's popularity, a film adaptation was nearly guaranteed. "It" was first adapted as a two-part miniseries in 1990, starring Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown. The first episode showed the youthful adventures of the Losers' Club, and the second episode flashed forward to their time as adults. While there is a lot of nostalgia for the 1990 "It," the miniseries doesn't quite capture all the nuances that made the novel so beloved.

But it was in 2017, when one of King's most beloved tales was finally brought to life on the big screen, that the king finally took his crown.
That is the year that saw Warner Bros. release the remake of "It," based on King's novel about the child-eating clown of the same name that had previously inspired a TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise. But that version,...

Rebel Wilson is going back to high school. Or at least, she’s going back to her senior year in Netflix’s upcoming comedy.
Apparently, Wilson’s character — or at least, her teenage self — had a pretty great life. She was cheer captain, was dating the hottest guy in school and was on track to become prom queen. But, after a bad accident during a cheer routine, she ends up in a coma for 20 years.
When she wakes up, she must cope with everything being different — well, except for her room. Apparently her parents couldn’t bear to change anything while she was comatose, meaning her bedroom walls are still covered in relics from 2002..

"You turned high school into a Hogwarts without the magic." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a comedy called Senior Year, arriving for streaming in May. This kind of seems like a modern reinvention of Adam Sandler's classic Billy Madison, but with a few different twists for the Netflix generation - including very cringey jokes about the times we're in. A 37-year-old woman wakes up from a 20 year coma and returns to the high school where she was once a popular cheerleader - hoping regain her status and claim the prom queen crown that eluded her back then. Rebel Wilson stars, with a cast including Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Mary Holland, Justin Hartley, Chris Parnell, Angourie Rice, Michael Cimino, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Brandon Scott Jones, & Alicia Silverstone, with Avantika. This looks like one of those painfully bad comedies they stopped making because they were, uh, awful, yet someone made another.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Big Sky Season 2 Episode 5 “Mother Nurture.”] The November 11 episode of the ABC drama Big Sky has plenty of action. It opens with the show’s two heroines Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) and Jenny (Katheryn Winnick) being shot at by drug cartel member Donno (Ryan O’Nan), while teenagers Max (Madeline Keintz), Harper (Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson), Bridger (Jeremy Ray Taylor) and Madison (Lola Skye Reid) try to escape dirty cop Deputy Harvey. One character not involved in all of this, however, is Jerrie (Jesse James Keitel) – Season 1’s kidnapping victim who now works with Cassie as a private investigator. She gets her own significant story arc this episode when her estranged father (Jeff Kober) shows up, and says that her mom has cancer. The result is that she leaves at the end of the episode in what’s being positioned as the character’s exit, although Jerrie and her father ...

Big Sky Season 2 will feature the familiar face of a dead character.
During the ABC drama's panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, it was revealed that John Carroll Lynch had closed a deal to return for the new episodes.
If you watch Big Sky online, you know the villainous Montana state trooper Rick Legarski was killed around the midway point of Big Sky Season 1.
Legarski was a villain, who was heavily involved in the mystery throughout the opening season, but how can the actor return if the character is dead?
Well, Legarski was revealed to have a twin on the freshman season, so it's possible we will be meeting his brother.
Either that or Legarski evaded the hospital and was replaced by his brother or something. This being Big Sky, there's truly no telling what's around the corner.

Big Sky has already added plenty of new faces for Season 2 — but it will also welcome back a very familiar one.
John Carroll Lynch, who played Montana state trooper Rick Legarski on the ABC drama’s first season, confirmed on Thursday that he’ll be back for the show’s second season. The news came during Big Sky‘s virtual Q&a at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, but Lynch didn’t answer the obvious question: With Legarski — spoiler alert! — having died at his wife’s hand in Season 1, in what capacity will the actor be back?

Right in the middle of Big Sky‘s panel at TCA on Thursday, actor John Carroll Lynch popped up on the screen, to announce that he will be returning for Season 2.
Details on his return are being kept under wraps. The character Lynch played in Season 1 was sex trafficking Montana state trooper Rick Legarski, who was shot in the head in the Season 1 finale. Even if he’s dead though, showrunner and executive producer Elwood Reid noted during the panel that Legarski has a twin, as alluded to in the first season.
Reid also confirmed that this season’s “new baddie, who is going to bring in more baddies,” is Ren, the character played by new series regular Janina Gavankar.
Another addition to the cast coming in to shake things up is Logan Marshall-Green’s Travis, a man from Jenny (Katheryn Winnick)’s past, who was friends with her and...

One of my favorite viewing experiences this year was finally catching up on Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, and while I'm bummed that the characters from the first season won't be returning, I'm still thrilled to see whatever the new Midnight Society cooks up next around the campfire.
With the new season of Are You Afraid of the Dark? premiering sometime in 2021, Nickelodeon is celebrating the New Year a bit early with their first teaser video for the new season that reveals its official title: Curse of the Shadows.
While the first season of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival (titled Carnival of Doom) featured three episodes, the new season will comprise six episodes.
You can check out the new trailer below (from Nickelodeon's official Twitter account), and we also have an excerpt from the official press release for the new season that will...

The 2019 revival of “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” centers around the Carnival of Doom, a place that star Jeremy Ray Taylor (“It Chapter Two”) describes as “beautiful on the outside, but…in the middle of it, there are definitely dark secrets.
Variety caught up with the young star during a carnival-themed celebration at Row Dtla and while the outside of the event was serene, the inside was dark and eerie. The entrance was lit just enough for the revival’s cast — Miya Cech, Lyliana Wray, Sam Ashe Arnold and Taylor — to pose for photos in front of the “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” poster before heading deeper into the party where demented clowns roamed, inviting guests to follow them through the dark. Once inside, guests enjoyed popcorn and chili dogs and there was even a candy buffet holding all the ingredients to make personalized, chocolate-covered apples.

When “It Chapter Two” director Andy Muschietti decided to add flashback scenes from the summer of ’89 to his sequel two years after shooting the blockbuster original, he faced a puberty problem that had struck The Loser’s Club ensemble of young actors: Jaeden Martell (Bill), Wyatt Oleff (Stanley), Jack Dylan Grazer (Eddie), Finn Wolfhard (Richie), Sophia Lillis (Beverly), Chosen Jacobs (Mike), and Jeremy Ray Taylor (Ben). Naturally, Muschietti called on Lola VFX, the go-to de-aging specialists for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But tackling The Loser’s Club was a far cry from making Samuel L. Jackson (“Captain Marvel”), Michael Douglas (“Ant-Man”), or Kurt Russell (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”) look decades younger. “Working on the kids in that age group, the amount of time was shorter than dealing with adult actors (10-30 years), but that’s the most dramatic period where you go through the most changes,” said Sarah Marika,...

Just like the Derry sewers are full of killer clowns, this article is full of It Chapter Two spoilers - beware of what's ahead!
The average audience member heading into It Chapter Two likely isn't expecting romance. After all, a movie about a demonic child-eating clown isn't exactly an aphrodisiac, right? Against all odds, though, director Andy Muschietti manages to squeeze in a few romantic moments between the members of the Losers Club. Not only are Richie's unrequited feelings for pal Eddie explored more explicitly than they are in Stephen King's original novel, but we also get a satisfying conclusion to the love triangle between Beverly, Bill, and Ben.
When we first check in with the now-adult characters, 27 years after the events of the first film, Beverly (Jessica Chastain) has grown up to become a successful fashion designer. She's also married the co-owner of her business, who happens to...

I’m sure you’ve noticed that the reviews for director Andy Muschietti’s It: Chapter 2 have been mixed. Some people are loving it while others are like, “What the hell was that!?” I personally loved the sequel! I thought it was a great and terrifying conclusion for the adaption of Stephen King’s classic story.
As I’ve talked to people about the film and I’ve been reading people’s reactions, I’ve noticed that most people who liked the movie read the book while the people who didn’t read the book didn’t seem to care for the film. This makes sense because the film introduces some some interesting and weird elements like the Ritual of Chud, which is what the Losers’ Club needs to perform in an effort to help destroy Pennywise The Clown. I won’t get into what that means, or how it plays out,...

I was one of the few not to go over the moon for It. That first installment, which ran two hours and fifteen minutes, felt incredibly padded out to me. Here, with It: Chapter Two, it’s over a half hour longer and all of the issues there are doubled. Monotonous, overlong, and just not nearly scary enough, this is a would be horror epic that only succeeds when it’s actually setting the stage for its story. The first act is actually pretty solid, but with about two hours to go after that, things go very much downhill. Opening this week, it’ll undoubtedly make a ton of money. However, it’s just not a very good movie. Picking up 27 years after the last one, the members of the Losers Club have grown up into troubled adults and moved far away from the town of Derry (with one exception...

How many pages does it take for seven kids to defeat a killer clown? And how many hours does that translate to when adapting the story to screen? For fans of Stephen King, the answer always seems to be “never enough.” The pop pulp shiver-giver inspires in readers a kind of ravenous insatiability that has thwarted his false-alarm retirement and felled more trees than the fires blazing in the Amazon rainforest. That same appetite helped feed the excitement for director Andy Muschietti’s “It” — a monster hit two years ago, earning more than $700 million — and ought to bring audiences back in even greater numbers for “It: Chapter Two,”
From the “Lord of the Rings” saga to the “Avengers” sequels, length confers a kind of false legitimacy on middlebrow entertainment, no matter the medium. When first published in 1986, “It” was by far the longest-winded of King’s prolix books (outgassing “The Stand...

It’s all been leading to this, folks. Ever since the Losers Club won our hearts and defeated Pennywise in 2017’s It, we’ve been patiently waiting to head back to Derry to see these beloved characters return to kill the unspeakably evil force that has plagued this small town for decades once and for all in It Chapter Two. Once again helmed by Andy Muschietti (who directed the first part) and written by Gary Dauberman, the sequel delivers up all the key moments that longtime fans of Stephen King’s book may be expecting to see here, but also includes a few things that are new to King’s world as well. While it does have some pacing issues, by and large, this concluding chapter in the It saga is a scary, hilarious, emotionally charged, and satisfying adaptation of quite possibly King’s most ambitious novel ever, and despite a few minor flaws,...

Andy Muschietti’s return to Derry, Maine is accompanied by incomparable fanfare. It floated up, up and away to inflated critical infatuation and mountains of box office returns, creating an instant genre phenomenon. It’s an unfair success for any sequel to live up to, even enlisting a star-studded adult Losers cast. Could It: Chapter Two replicate the darkness, sincerity, and clown-about terror of 2017’s face-painted juggernaut? Muschietti does Stephen King proud in completion but falls short in bottling carn-evil perfection twice in one franchise (still praise).
Twenty-seven years after the “Losers’ Club” defeats Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård), dismembered corpses start turning up once again. Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa), the only “Loser” still living in Derry, phones his childhood gang to honor their blood oath promise. Should Pennywise resurface, they’d return home and finish the dancing clown for good. Bill (James McAvoy), Beverly (Jessica Chastain), Richie (Bill Hader), Ben (Jay Ryan...

Happy September, dear readers! The best time of the year is upon us, where the weather is getting cooler, kids are back in school, and we have a brand new batch of movies to get excited about coming to both the big and small screens throughout the next few months.
In September, we’ve got It Chapter Two, Satanic Panic, Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, Bliss, Villains (one of my absolutely favorite films of 2019 thus far), Haunt, Freaks, Artik, Ad Astra, and so many more films on the docket, which should get you primed for Halloween season.
Then, October kicks off with the already polarizing Joker, followed up by the animated Addams Family movie, Along Came the Devil 2, Mary, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite (my most anticipated movie of the fall season), Robert Egger’s The Lighthouse, Trick from Patrick Lussier, Zombieland 2, and Travis Stevens’ The Girl on the...
