Steven Spielberg has made no secret of his support for Joe Biden’s reelection, and now the Oscar winner is rolling up his sleeves for the team.
Spielberg is involved strategically in the incumbent’s campaign and even the specifics of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August, Deadline has confirmed.
“Steven wants to be as helpful as possible to the president,” a well-placed source says. “He believes this is one of the most important elections in the nation’s history.”
The filmmaker is unlikely to helm a short movie at the DNC about Biden this year the way he helped do for John Kerry in 2004, and again at the 2008 convention when Barack Obama was nominated. However, Spielberg has been working with key advisors on how to “convey the president’s successes and his vision for the country” to viewers and delegates, I’m told.

Lenny Kravitz is scheduled to perform on Friday when President Joe Biden headlines his first reelection fundraiser in Los Angeles, according to the invite.
The event is hosted by designer Michael Smith and James Costos, the former U.S. ambassador to Spain, with a list of co-hosts that include Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, Martha Karsh and Wendy Schmidt. First Lady Jill Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also are scheduled to appear.
This will be the president’s first trek to Los Angeles for a fundraising swing since announcing reelection in April. He skipped Los Angeles during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, out of concern over raising money at the time of the work stoppage.
Others chairing or hosting the event include Ted Boutrous and Helen Boutrous, Rick Caruso and Tina Caruso, Peter Chernin and Megan Chernin, Morgan Cox and Derrall Hill Jr., John Emerson and Kimberly Marteau Emerson,...

Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are the latest industry figures to address their film and TV production in Georgia in the wake of the state’s new “fetal heartbeat” law. The Chernin Entertainment brass said today that they will continue to film their Fear Street movies and the upcoming Starz drama P-Valley in Atlanta but will make a “a significant donation” to the Aclu’s battle against the legislation.
Both projects are from female creators.
“We will stay in Georgia, stand shoulder to shoulder with the women of that state and the states under attack, and fight to win,” Chernin and Topping said in a statement. “In doing so will be making a significant donation to Aclu because whatever upside we have needs to be shared with the women everywhere who have the right as human beings to make medical decisions as sovereign individuals.”

Producers Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment said in a statement Wednesday that their projects currently filming in Georgia, the Fox film trilogy “Fear Street” and the “P-Valley” TV series, will remain in the state, but they will be making a “significant donation to Aclu” in opposition to the anti-abortion “fetal heartbeat bill.”
“Our choice became pretty clear, we will stay in Georgia, stand shoulder to shoulder with the women of that state and the states under attack, and fight to win,” Chernin and Topping said in a joint statement. “In doing so will be making a significant donation to Aclu because whatever upside we have needs to be shared with the women everywhere who have the right as human beings to make medical decisions as sovereign individuals.”

In a now very crowded field of Democrats, Joe Biden’s third run for the White House has the deepest pocketed Hollywood donor to the ex-Vice President’s boss putting his money on the table.
Big time Barack Obama supporters Jeffrey Katzenberg and wife Marilyn are now officially co-chairing the May 8 at the Beverly Hills home of former Ambassador to Spain and HBO exec James Costos and his partner and ex-White House interior designer Michael Smith.
“Expect there will be a huge turnout for this L.A. event,” Andy Spahn, President of Gonring, Spahn and Associates and Katzenberg’s long time political advisor, told Deadline. The firm is assisting with next month’s event.
Coming off today’s long anticipated announcement by Biden that he truly is in the 2020 race to retire Donald Trump, the move by the ex-DreamWorks Animation chief is about as much of a surprise as...

Much of Hollywood’s attention has been on midterms and the prospect of Democrats winning back control of Congress, but California’s primary on Tuesday will in many ways set the stage for November and for challenging President Trump into 2020.
Gavin Newsom and Antonio Villaraigosa, the two highest-profile Democratic names running for governor, have drawn heavily on their industry ties for support, and other contributors are backing independent committees looking to sway voters. Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, contributed $7 million to the California Charter Schools Association’s effort to elect the former Los Angeles mayor. Hastings’ outlay made him the largest individual donor in governor’s race so far this cycle.
The perception is that the next governor all but assuredly will be a Democrat — and one who can be a high-profile West Coast voice of opposition to the White House.
Other races also have garnered the industry’s attention.
