A group of screenwriters including Eli Roth, Graham Yost and Amy Chozick have issued an open letter decrying the Writers Guild of America’s silence on last week’s Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.
In the letter, posted to the blog site Medium, the screenwriters mention the statements already issued by other Hollywood guilds, including SAG-AFTRA and the directors’ guild.
“When it comes to taking a stand, the Writers Guild of America has always led by example,” the statement said. “When employers sought to exploit our work, the Guild bravely spoke up. When the BLM movement took flight, the Guild rightfully spoke up. When the #MeToo reckoning came and Hollywood needed to change, again the Guild spoke up. But when terrorists invaded Israel to murder, rape, and kidnap Jews… the Guild stayed silent. It remains the only major Hollywood union to do so.”

On this Wednesday’s The Bold Type (Freeform, 10/9c), Sutton and her estranged husband Richard will finally come face-to-face for the first time since he declared (via a friend) that he wants a divorce.
The encounter takes place at a time when Sutton is focusing on herself, going to therapy for the first time in her life to get ahead of a potential problem. “She sometimes numbs herself with a bit of alcohol, which is something that reminds her of her family history and her mother and also adds to, I think, a feeling of shame, which is also an...

“The Bold Type,” which airs its fifth and final season premiere Wednesday night, might not have ever happened if it weren’t for Katy Perry. Former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles recalls the genesis of the series, inspired by her life at the top of the masthead, as stemming from a cover shoot with the pop singer years ago.
“It had gone really well. The one thing we asked her not to do was to Instagram anything from the shoot, because the pictures wouldn’t be out for another six weeks on the cover of Cosmo,” Coles recalls. “She promised she wouldn’t, and we all left feeling very high after the shoot. Within 20 minutes, she had posted the exact picture that we were going to use on the cover. I was beside myself. We couldn’t use the best picture because it had already been out there.”

The bold babes still have a lot to work through before the addictive Freeform drama concludes.
The network has dropped the full-length trailer for the final season of The Bold Type, which begins Wednesday, May 26, at 10/9c.
Six episodes remain, and it looks like there's a wealth of relationship drama on tap.
The trailer confirms Sam Page's return, and that can only mean one thing:
Richard and Sutton are definitely not over.
As much as the series has attempted to prove to audiences that one of the most popular couples is over, the trailer leaves some hints that there's uncharted territory for them yet.
Their disagreement about kids paved the way for their breakup, but could things have changed by the time The Bold Type Season 5 debuts?

The Handmaid’s Tale takes home two prizes in TV category.
Jordan Peele won best original screenplay at the 2018 Writers Guild Awards for Get Out, while James Ivory won the adapted screenplay award for Call Me by Your Name.
The Writers Guild of America, West and the Writers Guild of America, East handed out the prizes at simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York last night (11 February).
Get Out boosted its Oscar chances by triumphing in a strong field including Lady Bird, The Shape Of Water, The Big Sick and I, Tonya. Martin McDonaugh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which made the Oscar shortlist in this category, was not eligible for a WGA award.
The adapted screenplay nominees mirrored the Oscar list, and included Molly’s Game, The Disaster Artist, Logan and Mudbound.
Jane Goodall documentary Jane won the documentary screenplay award.

Winners of the 2018 Writers Guild of America Awards were revealed on Feb. 11 in ceremonies held simultaneously in Los Angeles and New York. As only screenplays written under the guild’s guidelines or those of several international partners are eligible for consideration, these kudos, which are celebrating their 70th anniversary, have not been the most reliable barometer of the Oscars.
Indeed, one of this year’s leading contenders for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars — Martin McDonagh for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” — was ruled out of the running by the guild. However, that WGA race does include four of the other Academy Awards nominees — “The Big Sick,” “Get Out,” “Lady Bird” and “The Shape of Water.” It is rounded out by “I, Tonya.” Jordan Peele won for “Get Out” edging out Greta Gerwig, who had been predicted to win for “Lady Bird.”

The 2018 Writers Guild of America Awards take place on Feb. 11 with simultaneous ceremonies held in both New York and Los Angeles. Only scripts written under the guild’s guidelines or those of several international partners are allowed to vie for these awards. As such, these kudos are not the most reliable barometer of the Oscars.
In the past nine years only 59 of the WGA nominees have numbered among the 90 screenplays that reaped Academy Awards bids. Indeed, 2014’s Oscar winner for Best Original Screenplay, “Birdman,” was deemed ineligible. Likewise for one of this year’s leading contenders for that award: “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”
On the television side, the leading nominees are “Better Call Saul,” which competes for best drama series writing as well as for two individual episodes and “The Americans,” which is up for both overall drama series writing and an individual episode. Over in comedy, reigning Emmy...

“The Carmichael Show” – “Yes Means Yes”
Season 3, Episode 1

“The Carmichael Show” has never been afraid to present its audience with an idea or moment that cuts through the belly laughs and goes right for something that feels, for lack of a better term, real. Now in its third season, that practice is inextricably woven into the show’s DNA. The best news for fans and potential newcomers alike is that once that sharp intake of breath the subsides, it’s still one of the funniest shows on TV. – Steve Greene
