Young Latvian director Matīss Kaža is now working on the post-production of his first fiction feature, Where the Road Leads. The movie, penned in its entirety by Ilze Akmentina and the helmer himself, is set to become the first-ever Latvian western. Before working on this project, the Stockholm-born filmmaker directed one short, Meyerhold’s Flight (2018), and two documentaries, Klejotaji (2020) and One Ticket Please (2017). Shot in Latvia, Sweden and Italy, Where the Road Leads tells the story of Eva, a 16-year-old aristocrat who goes missing from the Baron’s manor on the day of her arranged wedding. When the Baron's head servant, Magda, is found murdered in the manor’s stables, an investigation starts where everyone is a suspect. The Baron’s henchmen and local law enforcement set out to find the girl and bring her back.
