CBS has firmed up its unscripted and specials oversight as Jack Sussman, the Eye net’s exec VP of specials, music, live events and alternative programming, departs next month. Mitch Graham, who has been running unscripted under Sussman, will continue to do so, while Mackenzie Mitchell will head up specials as VP of that division.
Graham will now report directly to CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach, while Mitchell will report to both Reisenbach and Bruce Gillmer, the president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount and the chief content officer, music, at Paramount +.
Reisenbach revealed the new structure in a memo set to go out to staffers on Wednesday afternoon. As part of the change, the specials/alternative group will collectively report to Graham and Mitchell depending on the project.

Will Melanie and Krista start the new year behind bars?
Neighbours spoilers for the week of 1-01-24 say they'll sit for their police interviews, after which the United Kingdom will decide whether to begin extradition procedures.
It's a tough, drama-filled situation, and there will be plenty of drama to go around even before the legal proceedings begin. Read on!
The two are in trouble because several years ago, Melanie stood up to a drug dealer on Krista's behalf and was left literally holding the bag
It seems ridiculous to extradite them now. Surely, the UK government has better things to do. But silly legal troubles are a soap opera trope, and Melanie's will cause all sorts of drama!
Melanie needs character references to help make the case that she's an upstanding member of society who doesn't deserve to be jailed over an ancient mistake. But Toadie saw red when...

I didn't blame David when he wanted to cut ties with Paul.
The Tanakas didn't grow up with him as a father figure, and Paul has not been one of TV's best fathers -- he causes more trouble in their lives than anything else. So it's understandable that David would want to avoid him and worry about Paul being a bad influence on his young daughter.
But on Neighbours during the week of 12-11-23, David took things too far, quickly going over the line from sympathetic to annoying.
The Lassiters' Christmas fair was bad enough. David briefly considered denying Isla the ritual of sitting on Santa's lap when he realized that Paul was playing the role of the magical gift-giver.
That seemed unfair. Isla had run to Paul a minute earlier, and now David was not only denying Paul a relationship with his granddaughter but was set to ruin her holiday over his feud.

Actress Mackenzie Phillips opened up about how she managed to forgive her late father, John Phillips, the lead singer of the folk-rock vocal group, The Mamas and the Papas.
Her comments were delivered 14 years after she revealed in her 2009 memoir, High on Arrival, that she had an incestuous relationship with her father that lasted for ten years.
The One Day at a Time star focused on the idea of forgiveness during a conversation that she had with her half-sister, Chynna Phillips Baldwin.
During this video, Mackenzie responded to the criticisms.
“Dad was something else,” she said. “I get a lot of criticism and a lot of trolling online for having forgiveness in my heart. Forgiveness, because forgiving is for me, not for the other person. And forgiving doesn’t mean I cosign or agree with what I’m forgiving him for.”

As a transgender Doctor Who fan, I'm thrilled about Rose Noble. Doctor Who Season 14 Episode 1 was the first of three 60th anniversary specials, and it included a transgender teenager whose mother was one of my favorite new series companions.
Rose got to do everything Doctor Who companions have done for six decades.
She befriended an alien, got caught up in a dangerous situation, and helped save London. She was courageous, curious, and had an appetite for adventure.
And she did it all while also being a member of a supportive family and a teenage girl with people shouting their disapproval at her from the streets based on their own transphobia.
It's hard to put into words what this meant. I've been a fan since before Doctor Who was cool -- I watched the classic series on PBS with my brother and later with the only other kid I knew who'd...

Mackenzie can't catch a break.
First, her husband dies at a tragically young age soon after marriage. Then, her fear and reluctance cause her to lose Haz romantically just as she's ready to start dating again.
And now, according to Neighbours spoilers for the week of 10-23-23, Mackenzie will face yet another devastating loss.
Heartbreak and devastation are standard soap opera tropes. Allowing Mackenzie to go through the same painful situations as everyone else rather than focusing solely on her gender identity is the best transgender representation.
Still, it's as devastating for fans as it is for her when she has one failure after another in the romance department. She got stood up just before she met too-good-to-be-true Ed, and it sucks for her that he'll turn out to be Holly's violent, no-good ex-boyfriend.
Ed's acting like the nicest, sweetest guy is a realistic portrayal of how domestic abusers target victims.

Nothing kills marriages faster than jealousy and distrust.
Toadie and Terese may have dodged the bullet with Nell for now, but a new problem reared its ugly head on Neighbours during the week of 10-16-23.
Toadie was worried that Paul pushed Terese to move into the office complex so that he could make moves toward stealing her back. He and Terese confronted Paul together, but could this still be the beginning of the end for them?
Jealousy of an ex is an often overdone soap opera trope, but Neighbours is different from American soaps -- the story won't be about insecurity festering.
So far, Toadie and Terese have made the right moves. They talked about the issue and presented a united front against Paul, and Terese gave him a year's rent to make it clear that she wasn't accepting any special favors.

The tiny city of Dalton, Georgia, has left a large footprint in the daily lives of millions who most wouldn’t have stopped for a second to consider. Well, it’s probably more appropriate to say that millions have left large footprints in Dalton’s biggest export: this city is the “Carpet Capital of the World.” With 85% of carpets in the USA having been made there, the industry’s made it one of America’s most prosperous locations for several decades. It shouldn’t be a surprise that many an entrepreneur have attempted to establish themselves there, though that easy entry point into the American Dream has become more complicated in recent years––something made abundantly clear in Carpet Cowboys, the feature directorial debut of documentarians Emily MacKenzie and Noah Collier.

Los Angeles County judge Alison Mackenzie confirmed she would grant Paramount Pictures’ motion to throw out a lawsuit over a nude scene in the 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, citing the First Amendment.

‘Romeo & Juliet’ $100M Sex Abuse Suit Is “Gross Mischaracterization” & Will Be Dismissed, Judge Says
“Thus with a kiss I die,” wrote William Shakespeare in Romeo & Juliet, and thus echoed a Los Angeles judge today over the alleged sexual abuse and negligence lawsuit from the stars of Franco Zeffirelli Oscar-nominated 1968 adaptation of the doomed lovers play.
Stating that the $100 million in damages action against Paramount Pictures from Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting contains a “gross mischaracterization” of the bedroom scenes in question from the film and citing the First Amendment, Judge Alison Mackenzie put forth a tentative ruling to dismiss the case.
“Defendant’s special motion to strike Plaintiffs’ entire Complaint …is Granted as each cause of action asserted therein arises from protected activity and Plaintiffs have failed to show a probability of success on the merits of those claims,” she wrote Thursday of Paramount’s (successful) attempt to have the matter tossed under California’s anti-slapp laws.

Paramount won’t have to face a lawsuit accusing the studio of sexual abuse over a nude scene in the 1968 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Alison Mackenzie signaled on Thursday that she’ll dismiss the suit, finding claims that the movie depicts sexual acts are a “gross mischaracterization” of the scene. She said in a tentative ruling that the claims “arise from protected activity” under the First Amendment.
Actors Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, 16 and 17 respectively when the film was shot, starred in the movie directed by Franco Zeffirelli. The suit seeking $500 million, which was filed under a California law that suspends the window to file a complaint for childhood sexual assault, revolves around a bedroom scene that briefly shows Whiting’s buttocks and Hussey’s bare breasts. The actors accused Zeffirelli of pressuring them into performing nude scenes despite previously telling them that they...

A judge on Thursday said she will throw out a lawsuit over a nude scene in the 1968 version of “Romeo and Juliet,” after finding that the film is protected by the First Amendment.
The stars of the film, Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, filed the suit in December, alleging that they were coerced by director Franco Zeffirelli into performing nude in the film’s bedroom scene. Hussey was 16 at the time of filming; Whiting was 17.
Judge Alison Mackenzie granted Paramount’s motion to throw out the suit, finding that the plaintiffs had not complied with the provisions of a California law that temporarily suspended the statute of limitations for child sex abuse claims.
Mackenzie also rejected the plaintiffs’ argument that the nude scene amounted to “child pornography.”
“Plaintiffs have not put forth any authority showing the film here can be deemed to be sufficiently sexually suggestive as a matter of...

Canadian filmmaker Ashley Mackenzie keeps audiences on their toes as she takes a decidely different turn with her sophomore feature, Queens of the Qing Dynasty. Staying with the lives of those living somewhat on the margins, either culturally or socially, in towns far away from the centre of the action, she's carving a unique place with her style and subject matter. Her characters are perhaps somewhat lost, sometimes alone, yet able to find connections where ones do not seem obvious. Shooting in and around where she grew up in Cape Breton, Mackenzie's film evoke a naturalness, and a natural strangeness, that's present in places where it's often more trouble to hide who you really are. After a successful festival run including Berlinale and TIFF, the...

In 2014, Argentine writer-director Damian Szifron made a considerable splash with “Wild Tales.” The Oscar-nominated, Almodóvar-produced feature consisted of six escalatingly over-the-top stories that put a blackly comic slant on human behaviors at their worst, adding up to a flamboyantly enjoyable whole. It’s surprising that it’s taken him nearly a decade to deliver his next feature, and more surprising still that it turns out to be his English-language debut “To Catch a Killer.”
This Baltimore-set thriller, with Shailene Woodley as a cop helping FBI agent Ben Mendelsohn track down a mass shooter, is the screen equivalent of a page-turner: a solid investigative procedural that breaks no new ground, but delivers sufficient suspense, character interest, and action in confident fashion. Nonetheless, it’s a curiously impersonal, straight-ahead genre piece for a writer-director who so assertively staked out his terrain as an auteur the last time around. Vertical Entertainment is opening it on 500+ U.

Rachel Lindsay vied for Nick Viall‘s heart on season 21 of The Bachelor, now she’s on her own journey to find love on the latest season of The Bachelorette — and she’s blogging about it exclusively for People! Follow Rachel on Twitter at @TheRachLindsay!
Welcome back Bachelor Nation from Denmark! From the beautiful castles and canals, to Viking battlefields, these days were ones I’ll never forget. But first let me explain how things ended in Olso.
Kenny had one last opportunity to show me that he finally put Lee’s concerns to rest so we could focus on the potential of love.

Oh, happy day — it’s the Bachelorette season 13 premiere.
Monday night’s two-hour premiere kicked off with Rachel Lindsay reminding everyone that A) she’s still as delightful as ever, and B) she looks really good in a red dress. If you were worried about how Rachel was going to bounce back after her split from Nick Viall, you may rest assured that she looks better than ever, is still a successful lawyer and oh, spoiler alert, is also engaged, which means one of these 31 goons successfully stole her heart at the end of this. (Okay, they’re not all goons.

Host Chris Harrison warns us before every episode that this one will be the most dramatic one of all time – but this time, it actually might deserve that title.
A lot happened in the two-hour part 1 season finale of Bachelor in Paradise, including the fact that basically half the cast left the show, but it's safe to say the most insane part that still has us reeling was that Kirk broke up with Carly. We'll get to that ... but first, a quick rundown of all the other relationships that crashed and burned (and the few that blossomed) on Sunday night's episode.

On Monday's episode of Bachelor in Paradise, we finally got a break from the incessant Joe-Samantha saga that had basically taken over the entire season.
After finally sending Joe home on Sunday night's episode, Samantha kept a relatively low profile – but have no fear, the other contestants more than made up for it with their fair share of drama, including break-ups, Fantasy Suite dates, and last but not least, a wedding.

If you're a fan of Kelsey – or a fan of her drama – this week's Bachelor was for you.
The episode opened immediately following last week's, when she fainted ("fainted") and had a panic attack ("panic attack").
Later, a two-on-one date between herself, Chris Soules and Ashley I. (whom we've dubbed "Kardashley" for her startling resemblance to Kim Kardashian) ended up being equal parts the most dramatic and most awkward date in Bachelor history.
Also, there was a musical group date and Chris insisted on making out with Britt in front of the other girls at every available opportunity, and he...

For the second time this season, Monday's The Bachelor featured a rejected contestant begging for another chance at love with Chris Soules. Jordan, who was ousted in week 2 for being the drunkest, hottest mess that ever talked for an entire episode about wanting to make out with Chris, drove from Colorado to New Mexico - where this week's episode was shot - to make her case. Also, Kelsey showed her true colors (and that's why we love her, but just kidding, because she may actually be nuts), we learned that Britt doesn't shower, and Carly and Chris visited a love...

"Hey hey hey hey—the party starts in Santa Fe!"
And with that deranged cheerleader chant, this week's episode of The Bachelor moved the eleven remaining women out of the L.A. mansion, and over to the beautiful town of Santa Fe, New Mexico. (A town that, according to Megan, is out of the country.)
The cattiness between the ladies rose to an all-time high on Monday's episode. From Kelsey's deluded infatuation with her own romantic tragedy, to Ashley I.'s general hatred of each and every girl in the competition, and the abrupt return of yet another previously eliminated contestant — the claws were most certainly out tonight.
Long story, short — The Bachelor was straight-up bonkers this week, and we at ETonline think that there is no better way to recap the crazy than with the ladies' own quotes, and a few winning observations from Bachelor Chris Soules.

On this week's episode of The Bachelor, Jimmy Kimmel stopped by to insert himself into the activities and, most importantly, bestow upon the house an "Amazing Jar," into which the contestants – and Chris Soules himself – had to deposit one dollar every time they said the word "amazing."
We don't know how many dollars ended up in that jar, but probably one hundred thousand, give or take.
Kimmel made his debut on the episode by entering Chris's temporary home and waking him from a shirtless slumber. "What the f---," said Chris, pointing in Kimmel's face. In that moment, Chris basically summed up the episode ahead.

Chris Soules' reign as The Bachelor has only just begun, but it's already clear that he is presiding over one of the drunkest group of women to ever live in a mansion together in order to vie for the attention of one man.
This week's episode picked up immediately after last week's ended. Following the rose ceremony, it was daylight outside, and the women – most of whom had entirely run out of steam – had taken to just sitting on the floor.
