With the 2015 Oscars almost here, Moviefone will be releasing a set of staff predictions each day this week (in countdown fashion) for the four major categories. We wrap it up today with arguably the hottest contested race: Best Director.
We've already given you the beat on the 2015 Oscars race, so now let's break down our favorites to win the award. Here, we've listed the directors we expect to win, and then, more importantly, who we think should win.
Tim Hayne
Who Will Win: Alejandro González Iñárritu. The Academy loves an innovator -- just look at Alfonso Cuaròn's 2014 win for "Gravity" -- and this year will be no different. "Birdman" is a wild ride, visually and emotionally. Iñárritu took what could have been an inside-baseball, rarified glimpse into the world of stage acting and the Hollywood career cycle and turned it into a riveting voyage into Batman's burned-out actor Riggan Thomson's comeback-obsessed psyche.

Congratulations to Mark Harris (Grantland), Dave Karger (Fandango), and Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) for topping all Experts at predicting this year's Academy Awards. Each of them were at a 92% accuracy rate, missing just two categories apiece. As for the misses, Harris had "Get a Horse" (instead of "Mr. Hublot") for Animated Short and "The Voorman Problem" (instead of "Helium") for Live Action Short. Karger had "American Hustle" for Original Screenplay (losing to "Her") and "Get a Horse." Travers had "Feral" for Animated Short and "The Voorman Problem." After our three winners, there was then a seven-way tie at 88% (21 of 24 categories) between Thelma Adams (Yahoo), Kyle Buchanan (Vulture), Tim Hayne (Moviefone), Michael Hogan (Vanity Fair), Tariq Khan (Fox News), Glenn Whipp (L.A. Times), and Susan Wloszczyna (Roger Ebert). Following them wa...

It's just about that time! Dust off that old tuxedo from the attic because the Oscars are almost here.

Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity") and Steve McQueen ("12 Years a Slave") are the ones to watch for in this year's race. Cuaron has pushed film technology to the brink in his visually-spectacular "Gravity," while McQueen made a beautiful and moving film in "12 Years a Slave."

It's Oscar weekend!
With the star-studded evening almost here, Moviefone will be releasing a set of staff predictions each day this week (in countdown fashion) for the six major categories. We've already predicted Best Picture, Best Actor, and more, so now to kick off Oscar weekend, we bring you perhaps the hottest race of them all: Best Supporting Actress.
Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong'o have been going neck and neck all season for their work in "American Hustle" and "12 Years a Slave," respectively, but only one will walk away with the little gold man. While Lawrence is fresh off her Best Actress win last year for "Silver Linings Playbook" and the blockbuster "Hunger Games: Catching Fire," Nyong'o is a newcomer who has seriously turned heads in her first role -- and on the red carpet.
