"Put me back in! That was the deal!" Dread has revealed a new trailer for an extra freaky, weird, mindf*!k sci-fi horror film titled Tin Can, from a Canadian filmmaker named Seth A. Smith. This first premiered at the 2020 Sitges Film Festival, and finally lands in theaters + on VOD in the US this August. Thanks to Dread Presents giving it a release. As the world faces a plague, humanity's hope for a cure lies with a scientist, Fret, who awakens imprisoned in a metal chamber and must desperately work to escape her confined cell to save the last of humanity. This stars Anna Hopkins, with Simon Mutabazi and Michael Ironside. This seems to be less like Cube, much more Beyond the Black Rainbow or Event Horizon, but all of it looks creatively twisted and peculiar. Must say I am intrigued! Definitely worth a look. Despite being neither a household name nor one I could immediately place, seeing writer-director Seth A. Smith attached to a film while sifting through the schedule at the Fantasia International Film Festival forced me to pause. A quick search later revealed him to be the filmmaker behind 2017’s The Crescent—an under-rated gem that enthralled me via narrative and image alike. It didn’t therefore matter what his latest, Tin Can, was about; I felt confident it would prove memorable whether I ended up enjoying it or not. That this claustrophobic sci-fi thriller quickly won me over with its early David Cronenberg inspirations only allowed my excitement to increase with each passing minute as I found myself unable to detach from its captivatingly dark, timely pandemic mystery.

"If you claim that you don't support something, challenge it." Samuel Goldwyn has unveiled a trailer for the indie film Black Cop, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and has been hitting tons of festivals over the last five months. The film is about a black police officer who is pushed to the edge, taking out his frustrations on the privileged community he's sworn to protect. Up-and-coming actor Ronnie Rowe (seen on "Star Trek: Discovery") stars as "Black Cop", along with Sophia Walker, Sebastien Labelle, Simon Paul Mutuyimana, Christian Murray, Ambyr Dunn, and Jeff Schwager. This is labeled as a drama, but one of the quotes say it's "jet-black satire", and there's some dark humor in this trailer. It almost seems like Falling Down, about a black cop who gets pissed off and starts throwing white cops into the dumpster. Here's the official release trailer (+ poster) for Cory Bowles' Black Cop,...
