The trailer for "X-Men '97," the revival of the cartoon series beloved by '90s kids everywhere, recently premiered. That means it's that time again — that time when nerds like me try to get you superhero movie/TV fans to read some dang comics.
"X-Men" itself was enthusiastic about adapting comic stories, particularly ones written by Chris Claremont during his legendary 17-year-long run on "X-Men". Marvel presses the randomize button to give us some fresh hero vs. villain matches.
Marvel is at a spot right now where they’re just kind of rehashing old event stories with a new coat of paint. Considering how much money they made altering the story of Infinity Gauntlet into two feature films, I don’t know if I can blame them. In the past few years, they did new takes on Secret Wars, Civil War, and even Amalgam. Next up is dusting off Acts of Vengeance and rebranding it as Acts of Evil.
Acts of Vengeance was an event from the early '90s with a simple and incredibly fun concept: a bunch of villains got together and decided to trade targets in order to hit the heroes off-guard. Spider-Man fights Graviton, Punisher fights Dr. Doom, Thor fights Juggernaut, etc. It was mainly remembered for Spider-Man...
