“A Town Called Malice” on Sky Max is an experience that perfectly evokes the nostalgia of the 1980s and a charming vibrancy. The eighties-themed plot of “A Town Called Malice” is just one of the numerous elements that greatly contribute to the old wine in a new bottle allure. Every episode is titled after one of the most popular songs from that time period, such as “Cruel Summer” or “I Want to Know What Love Is,” which will undoubtedly attract aficionados of eighties music in a big way. In addition to fascinating revelations, as the plot develops, the series has a unique attractiveness thanks to its colorful cinematography and costume designs, which may compete with “Stranger Things”‘ outfit designs. The plot drags a little bit in the first six episodes, but it quickly picks up steam and makes for a fantastic viewing experience.

Is there any corner of the globe left untouched by the British crime drama? If it’s not Kenneth Branagh stalking through the inky expanses of the Swedish winter, or Roger Allam quaffing rosé in Provence, it’s Ralf Little, Ben Miller, Kris Marshall or Ardal O’Hanlon nicking killers (and evading taxes) in Guadeloupe. Now, British crime turns its attention to the Costa del Sol with A Town Called Malice (Sky Max). a pulpy, blood-soaked vision of Brits abroad. “Death arrives on the Costa,” growls the local Spanish detective. “I like it.”
Gene (Jack Rowan) is the youngest of the Lord brothers, heirs-apparent to a south-London crime family. But he’s different, determined to make it as a newspaper journalist. “My family couldn’t lie in bed straight, but that’s not me,” he tells Cindy (Tahirah Sharif), a beautiful bartender. Soon enough, Gene and Cindy are engaged to be married,...

If you love the 1980s – specifically, the neon-lit, Talking Heads-blaring, Delboy swagger of the 1980s Cockney – then Sky’s new crime thriller A Town Called Malice is right up your street.
Meet the Lords
Created by The Sweeney’s Nick Love, this eight-part drama centres on the Lord family, a South London gang whose criminal heyday might be behind them, but who are still up for causing trouble. After a spot of bother with a rival gang (and leaving a policeman for dead), they flee to Spain’s Costa del Sol to lay low, and in amongst the pina coladas and palm trees realise they have a chance to recapture their former glory and become criminal top dogs once more.
The series premiered on Sky Max at 9pm on Thursday 16th March, and the full box-set is already available to watch on Now.

A slasher series set aboard a cruise ship, with a plucky duck mascot employed as the face of its killer, sure sounds like a delightful time, doesn’t it? That setup is only the tip of the iceberg in the inaugural six-episode season of “Wreck,” created by Ryan J. Brown and helmed by Chris Baugh (Boys from County Hell). Hidden behind the Quacky the Duck mask is a larger murder-mystery conspiracy, charming characters, and a reverence for the horror genre.
“Wreck” introduces its setting, the Ms Sacramentum, and its inciting mystery with an opening sequence that pays tribute to Halloween H20. Pippa (Jodie Tyack) breaks up with her boyfriend, Danny (Jack Rowan), then gets pursued across the deck by the ship’s mascot, Quacky, who is ominously wielding a knife. The screen fades to black before Pippa’s fate gets revealed. Cut to three months later, 19-year-old Jamie (Oscar Kennedy...

Exclusive: Season two of Euston Films’ BBC Three horror comedy Wreck is in development prior to the first airing, as creator Ryan J. Brown opens up about portraying queer identity and a scarcity of British slasher.
Newly-promoted Euston MD Noemi Spanos and Brown told Deadline they are busy developing the second season and Brown always planned the show to run for at least three. Meanwhile, the horror comedy is one of distributor Fremantle’s flagships being pushed to international buyers at Mipcom later this month. It launches on Sunday October 9.
The cast of Wreck
The genre-bending show, a youth-skewing horror set on a cruise ship that has comic elements, “lends itself well to international sales,” according to Spanos. “The boat itself has a very international cast of characters coming together that should give it a broad reach,” she added, stating that Wreck’s trailer has already attracted widespread attention on social media.

In season four of "Peaky Blinders," viewers were introduced to scrappy newcomer fighter Bonnie Gold. Played by Jack Rowan, Bonnie was brought into the story as a bargaining chip between Thomas "Tommy" Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and Bonnie's father Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillen). Aberama continues to help the Peaky Binders after Luca Changretta (Adrien Brody) begins his quest for revenge against the Shelby family and, in exchange for his assassin-related services, Tommy will help Bonnie achieve his dreams of becoming a professional boxer.
For Rowan, the role wasn't as difficult as one might expect. He brought his own experience as an amateur boxer into his interpretation of Bonnie, and it served him well. As Rowan explained to The Gentleman's Journal, while the role didn't require much of him, there was something undeniably special about it:

Last year, we shared the news that Fremantle’s Euston Films is set to produce a six-part horror comedy series called Wrecked for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. Euston’s Noemi Spanos and BBC’s Tommy Bulfin executive produced the show, which has been written by Ryan J. Brown – who said he “wanted to create a piece of genre entertainment that had the savvy teen sharpness of Scream, the unsettling atmosphere of The Shining and the strange upstairs, downstairs mythology of The Cabin in the Woods.” Wrecked is now set to premiere at London’s Fright Fest on August 26th (the show will launch on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer later this autumn), and in anticipation of the premiere a batch of images from the show have arrived online… images that seem to reveal that the killer wears a duck costume and is called Quacky! Warning: contains spoilers for Peaky Blinders season five.
Polly Gray, Shelby Company treasurer, Romani Queen and clairvoyant witch, is the fabric of Peaky Blinders. The glamorous, redoubtable Shelby matriarch is a matchless creation. Sharp-tongued and sharply tailored, Polly gets all the best lines and all the best looks. She’s an integral part of the family’s stratospheric ascent, having run the bookmakers while the boys were fighting in France, and continuing to run things ever since at Tommy’s side. She drips wit, shoots rapists, twists mafiosos around her little finger, scares the shit out of abusive nuns, makes drunken speeches at the Bullring, and predicts the future. In other words: she’s Polly fucking Gray, a corner of the Shelby family triangle on which this whole mad drama rests.
Played by the late Helen McCrory, Aunt Polly was supreme. The acclaimed stage and screen actor and philanthropist died...

Despite its title Boys from County Hell isn’t another backwoods hicksploitation film. It’s actually an Irish horror comedy that pits a road crew against the Emerald Isle’s own species of bloodsucker. Writer/director Chris Baugh (Bad Day for the Cut) has expanded the short he did with co-writer Brendan Mullin to feature-length, and the results definitely don’t suck.
Eugene (Jack Rowan; Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands) lives in Six Mile Hill, a rural Irish town where, according to legend, Bram Stoker got the inspiration for Dracula. Eugene and his buddies S.P. and William (Fra Fee; Monochrome) get a bit of amusement scaring tourists who’ve come to see the cairn that marks the grave of Abhartach the legendary bloodsucker who inspired Stoker.
But all is not well in Eugene’s life.

A Northern Irish town with ties to vampiric lore has an uninvited guest in a funny if sometimes unbalanced film that channels Shaun of the Dead
Demolishing an ancient cairn is definitely high on the list of things people in horror movies should never do. Especially when the one out in the field near sleepy backwater Six Mile Hill supposedly houses Abhartach, reputedly the original inspiration for Dracula – a scary story that Eugene Moffat (Jack Rowan) and friends enjoy winding up tourists with down their local, the Stoker. When his best mate William winds up impaled on the stones on a boozy walk home, and Eugene’s attempted demolition job makes matters worse, the entire construction team must figure out how to put this haemoglobin-hoovering abomination back underground.
It’s surprising that Shaun of the Dead’s casual Brit domestication of the zombie apocalypse hasn’t spawned more imitators. So it’s cheering,...

One of the biggest challenges in taking on one of the mainstay subgenres of horror is how to put a new spin on it. The vampire genre is one that some critics might say has been fully explored. Vampires have run the gamut from terrifying to funny to sparkly. What next? How do you keep it interesting? Specifically, how do you tell Dracula without simply retelling Dracula? You have to make Dracula a bit different. Alter the origins. Change the rules. Which is exactly what Chris Baugh does with his new film Boys from County Hell.

First, some history: “Dracula” author Bram Stoker, the ostensible inventor of our modern idea of the vampire, was Irish. Now, some retconning: in the world of Chris Baugh’s plucky horror comedy “Boys from County Hell,” Stoker’s villain was inspired by the evil exploits of Abhartach, a resident in the tiny Irish village of Six Mile Hill who delighted in drinking the blood of his neighbors. A local offed Abhartach and he was buried beneath a tall cairn of rocks in a grassy field, never to be seen again. Maybe.
Such is the world of the shiftless Eugene (Jack Rowan) and his best pal William (Fra Fee). The Abhartach legend is a fun way to distract silly tourists, but these local boys can’t shake the sense that there might actually be something to the tall tale. Northern Irish filmmaker Baugh, best known for his Sundance feature “Bad Day for the Cut,...

“Peaky Blinders” will conclude with the British period crime drama’s upcoming sixth season, which has just begun production in the U.K., the BBC announced Monday.
“‘Peaky’ is back and with a bang,” creator and writer Steven Knight said in a statement Monday. “After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”
Representatives for BBC did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment on what other “form” Knight was referring to.
Set in Birmingham, England, “Peaky Blinders” takes place after World War I and stars Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, a powerful member of the Shelby crime family.

In the alternate universe of “Noughts + Crosses,” Africa — or “Aprica” as it’s referred to in the new Peacock series — invaded Europe 700 years ago. In present-day London (known as “Albion”), segregation laws maintain the power dynamic: A ruling class of Black “Crosses” control the country over an oppressed, impoverished underclass of white “Noughts,” who are on the brink of revolt. Against this backdrop of Prejudice and rebellion, a prohibited romance blossoms between Callum McGregor (Jack Rowan), a hapless Nought, and Sephy Hadley (Masali Baduza), a Cross, and daughter of a prominent politician. It’s a provocative set up with “Romeo and Juliet”-esque implications that doesn’t quite have the bite it seems to be striving for.

Long before writer Malorie Blackman conceived of the story of the Doctor and her companions meeting civil rights hero Rosa Parks in Doctor Who’s “Rosa,” she imagined another alternate version of history and racism. Noughts + Crosses, the BBC and Mammoth Screen-produced series based on Blackman’s bestselling U.K. Ya book series of the same name, is making its U.S. debut on Peacock Friday, and it’s likely already on many a hardcore Whovian’s radar. However, for the rest of the American viewing public, this may be the first time you’re hearing of Noughts + Crosses. Or not. Last week, Peacock dropped a not-great U.S. trailer for the show, causing some controversy on social media, and alienating some of the audience most likely to watch this show. Here’s why Black viewers and science fiction dystopia fans should consider giving Noughts + Crosses a chance…...

Barbadian British author Malorie Blackman’s popular and critically acclaimed “Noughts + Crosses” series, which uses the setting of a fictional dystopia to explore racism in the present day, is coming to NBCUniversal’s recently launched streaming service, Peacock. The timely and thought-provoking six-episode drama, which is set to launch Friday, September 4, follows the love story of two star-crossed young adults who are divided by their skin color, in an alternate universe where the racial power structure is turned on its head.
In this world, Africa — or “Aprica” as it’s referred to in the novel — invaded Europe centuries ago, enslaving its people. In present-day London (known as “Albion”), slavery is an institution of the past, but Jim Crow-esque segregation laws maintain the power dynamic: A ruling class of Black “Crosses” control the country’s politics, wealth, and culture over an oppressed, impoverished underclass of white “Noughts,” who are at the brink of revolt.

Simon Amstell’s comedy Benjamin is currently available on DVD From Artsploitation Films. Ordering info can be found Here
Simon Amstell’s second film as director, Benjamin, was released last year into cinemas, to deserved acclaim too. Benjamin is rightly described as a bittersweet comedy, and it stars Colin Morgan, Phenix Brossard, Joel Fry, Jack Rowan, Jessica Raine and Anna Chancellor.
Benjamin, a rising star filmmaker, is on the brink of premiering his difficult second film No Self . He has been too long in the edit. On the eve of the premiere at the London Film Festival, he is introduced to a mesmeric French singer called Noah. As they journey through a contemporary London of vegan restaurants, comedy clubs and avant-garde dance, they slowly manoeuvre themselves and each other towards love. Benjamin is a drama-comedy about feeling isolated and struggling for connection.
Critics love Benjamin:

Artsploitation Films has released a US trailer for an indie film from the UK titled Benjamin, the second feature by British comedian / filmmaker Simon Amstell. This autobiographical film is a "charmingly offbeat romantic comedy about a mess-of-a-filmmaker juggling the anxieties and excitement of his upcoming film premiere with the fear and awkwardness of a burgeoning romance." A young filmmaker is thrown into emotional turmoil by a new love and an upcoming premiere after being introduced to a French musician. The film stars Colin Morgan, Anna Chancellor, Phénix Brossard, Gabe Gilmour, Jack Rowan, Joel Fry, and Jessica Raine. Seems like a charming and refreshing film, a deeply personal story about figuring yourself out in the midst of life's ups and downs. Here's the new official US trailer (+ poster) for Simon Amstell's Benjamin, direct from YouTube: Benjamin is a character...
