It’s unfortunate, but most streaming shows (and movies for that matter) never get a physical release, but thankfully, Disney has been releasing some of their most popular Marvel and Star Wars shows on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. Following in the footsteps of Loki season 1, WandaVision, and the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, Disney announced today that they will be releasing collector’s editions of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, Andor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. Hurray for physical media!

Flashback looks back on fascinating stories or artifacts of the past, not necessarily tied to today’s news but still relevant and sometimes extra-significant in relation to today’s ever-evolving context.
As we all know, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Movie” underwent major reshoots, apparently to salvage the film. Directed by Gareth Edwards, during the extensive reshoots, Lucasfilm brought on writer/director Tony Gilroy to rewrite the movie, direct the reshoots, and oversee the post-production process.

May the Force be with… Emmy voters? Disney Plus amassed an impressive 40 Emmy nominations this year (up from 34 last year) thanks to its stable of “Star Wars” saga hits, which accounted for more than half of the mouse house’s total haul of 23 bids — nine for “The Mandalorian,” eight for “Andor,” five for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and one for docuseries “Light & Magic.”
Although “Mandalorian” nabbed nine bids, the real success story this year is “Andor,” scoring a Best Drama Series nomination for its debut season plus writing and directing bids and five Creative Arts noms. The latest live-action series in the Disney-era “Star Wars” franchise, “Andor” serves as a prequel to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (2016) and also by extension to the original Oscar-winning classic “Star Wars” (1977).

With the ongoing Emmy decorated run of Disney’s “The Mandalorian,” “Star Wars” has reentered the awards circle. The hit drama series has garnered multiple nominations for its first two seasons both above and below the line. While it has won 14 Emmys to date, none of the actors has prevailed.
Another “Star Wars” series, “Andor,” could break that curse. The show is much more small-scaled than “Mando” and plays a lot closer to Emmy friendly political dramas of the past. The critical reception emphasises this aspect; the series has a stellar 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences have warmed to it and the series holds an 8.4 IMDb rating.
Like many other genres hits, “Andor” will likely fare exceptionally below-the-line. But, the more prestige-leaning, politically charged vision of creator Tony Gilroy (Oscar nominee for both writing and directing) will help it pierce above-the-line categories. This is reflected in our odds, where the...

“Star Wars” could be in for a big year this Emmys as not one, not two, but three shows hope to snag nominations for Best Drama or Best Limited Series.
“Andor” and “The Mandalorian” are competing for Best Drama, with the latter hoping to make it three in a row, while “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is searching for a Best Limited Series bid. Here’s the breakdown.
Firstly, “Andor” is in a very good position as we lead up to the Emmy nominations. The show follows Diego Luna as the titular Cassian Andor in a spin-off story set before the spin-off movie “Rogue One,” which itself precedes “A New Hope.” “Andor” depicts how Cassian goes from a lone rogue to one of the most important parts of the Rebel Alliance as he comes across major players in the organization including Stellan Skarsgård‘s Luthen Rael.

We’ve got Ben Mendelsohn back for one Disney franchise. Now, how about a second? It’s excellent to see him in Secret Invasion reprising the role of Talos, a character he first portrayed in 2019’s Captain Marvel. That said, we’re already thinking ahead to next year and to the conclusion of a Star Wars triumph: Andor. The show’s second season is set to air during the second half of 2024, and seeing Mendelsohn in a Disney property has reminded us just how much we miss him in a galaxy far, far away. Here’s why we’re hoping he again dons that white cape—and why we think it might happen. Disney+/Lucasfilm How Could Ben Mendelsohn Return to ‘Star Wars?’ Two words: Death Star. At the end of Season 1, we glimpsed the Death Star’s construction as a post-credits scene revealed Cassian (Diego Luna) and his fellow...

This story about director the visual effects design of “Andor” first ran in the Drama Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
For Disney+’s “Andor,” an erudite elucidation of the prequel universe first seen in the film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” visual effects supervisor Scott Pritchard took things back to basics in real locations, despite having technology that in 1977 might have made George Lucas Vader-breathe with envy.
“I’m very much of the opinion that first and foremost, we’re storytellers,” Pritchard, who first joined Ilm with 2015’s “The Force Awakens,” said. “We’ve got to drive the story forward. ‘Andor’ is the perfect show to exercise that kind of philosophy. It’s more about background and texture and setting and place and giving you something for the characters [to play off], because most of our work was environment.”

Run Forest run… towards another Emmy. That was a terrible joke but Forest Whitaker again delivered another definitely-not-terrible performance in his guest actor role in “Andor.”
“Andor,” one of the best-reviewed shows of this year, is the Disney+ spin-off TV series of the spin-off “Star Wars” movie “Rogue One.” The series follows Diego Luna in the titular role of Cassian Andor as we find out how this scoundrel eventually joins the Rebel Alliance and becomes a crucial part of the fight against the Empire. Along the way, Cassian meets some key figures in “Star Wars” lore including Stellan Skarsgård‘s Luthen Rael and Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera.
This is just the latest appearance as Saw by Whitaker (more on that later) and the performer shines once again in a role he seems born for. Saw is part of one branch of those fighting against the Empire. He fights against the...

Just as he redefined the legal drama with the Oscar-winning movie Michael Clayton, Tony Gilroy has made arguably the most serious Star Wars streaming series to date in Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Andor, which is steeped in the binary of a burgeoning morose utilitarian empire that’s dominating the denizens of the universe.
Set before the events of the 2016 prequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which focused on the band of misfit spies who team up to steal the Death Star plans (which are in turn used by the Rebellion to take out the massive space station in 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope), Andor follows Rogue One’s Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) — known for being a thief, a liar and a cheat — as he becomes a lynchpin in the Rebellion’s rise against the Empire. Gilroy wound up writing on Rogue One and handled additional shoots and edits on that Gareth Edwards-directed movie.

Curated by the IndieWire Crafts team, Craft Considerations is a platform for filmmakers to talk about recent work we believe is worthy of awards consideration. In partnership with Disney, for this edition, we look at how costume design and acting reverse-engineered a thrillingly fresh story from what we already knew about “Andor.”
The most iconic shot of the original “Star Wars” is that of a young man gazing into the (binary) sunset, yearning for more out of life. But the galaxy is a big, big place. The first of the many things creator Tony Gilroy does to expand it with “Andor,” the prequel series for one of the core characters in “Rogue One,” was to turn his camera to a young man gazing into the fearful symmetry of the Empire, yearning for family, safety, and a home. Music has always been an integral part of the “Star Wars” universe, dating back to the John Williams scores for the original movie trilogy. So will Emmy voters recognize one, two or all three of the recent “Star Wars” TV series in the scoring categories?
Vying for consideration: the 12-part “Andor,” with music by Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated Nicholas Britell (“Succession”); the six-part “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” with a new theme by Williams and score by English composer Natalie Holt (“Loki”); and the eight-part third season of “The Mandalorian,” with music by Joseph Shirley. All aired on Disney+.
Britell spent more than two years on “Andor,” the backstory of “Rogue One” hero Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), including several months creating music that was played on the set during filming – from the Time Grappler’s hammer-banging signals on Ferrix to the alien electronica in the clubs on Morlana and the amateur funeral band playing a...

The nominations for the Emmys are still weeks away. But there’s growing excitement in the Latino community as multiple lead actors continue to look well-positioned to receive deserved recognition.
Two of the top contenders in the lead drama actor race — Pedro Pascal as the hardened survivor Joel from HBO’s apocalyptic video game adaptation “The Last of Us” and Diego Luna as the rebel hero Cassian in the “Star Wars” prequel series “Andor” from Disney+ — are Latino and star in buzzy sci-fi and fantasy series.

Family is the most important thing. Apart from the Emmys, of course. Duh. Two performers may be able to combine both of those pillars of life this year as Stellan Skarsgård and his son Alexander Skarsgård vie for “Andor” (Disney+) and “Succession” (HBO) respectively. However, it’ll be a battle between father and son as they will be competing in the same category this year: Best Drama Supporting Actor.
First up, we have the father. Stellan Skarsgård was one of the show’s standout performers — and there were many of those, including Diego Luna, Andy Serkis, and Fiona Shaw. “Andor,” a spin-off TV show of the spin-off movie “Rogue One,” follows Luna as the titular Cassian Andor as the series explores how he came to be such a key part of the rebel alliance. As someone who has had my chilly feet described as blocks of ice, watching the prison scenes in the Star Wars series "Andor" was rough. If you recall, rebel Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is imprisoned for anti-Imperial activities while he was masquerading under the name Keef Girgo on the resort planet of Niamos. I mean, sure, he was doing a lot of anti-Imperial stuff, but not the things they accused him of. Add to that the raised punishments for pretty much everything (ensuring that the Empire has a lot of cheap labor to build their Death Star), and it makes for a rough incarceration.

One thing that set Diego Luna's portrayal of Cassian Andor apart from other characters in 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was the fact that Luna retained his Mexican accent to play the captain from the Rebel Alliance, adding a culturally specific flair to Luna's performance and imbuing the universe with a unique Latino character. Though the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy tried diversifying the franchise, it, unfortunately, failed to offer depth and substance, sidelining John Boyega's Finn as well as Kelly Marie Tran's Rose.
Thankfully, "Andor," the prequel Disney+ series that follows Cassian Andor's journey from a disillusioned man to the passionate and morally ambiguous captain of the Rebel Alliance we meet in "Rogue One" made some efforts to improve the representation in the "Star Wars." This year's "Star Wars Celebration" has laid down the roadmap for the next few years of the franchise, but above all, we remain most excited for season 2 of "Andor," which was announced to currently be in production and planned for an August 2024 release. After three Disney+ "Star Wars" series that delivered more of the same, surprisingly, it was the prequel series following a character from "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" which stood out by showing us a darker, edgier side of the galaxy. It's no secret that we here at /Film think "Andor" is one of the best pieces of "Star Wars" media ever. If we weren't already convinced by the first handful of episodes, then the prison storyline for the titular antihero (Diego Luna) solidified this. Cassian's experiences and the brutal exploration of outer space prison industrial complexes remain one of the highlights of the entire franchise.
Thankfully, according to the cast and crew at the "The Making of 'Andor' Season One" panel at "Star Wars" Celebration, those scenes weren't nearly as heart-wrenching to film as they were to watch. However, that didn't mean they weren't just as intense. That's because they implemented a theatrical approach to some of these scenes, particularly those set in the harrowing Narkina 5 prison. This included rehearsing big action scenes while the sets were still being built.
"We rehearsed that scene like theater," said Luna during the panel.

Star Wars Celebration is going down right now in the U.K., and that means we're learning a lot about the future of the franchise on both the big and small screen. While "Andor" creator Tony Gilroy did his best to not give too much away about the show's second season, which is filming right now, he did give us a little something to chew on during an interview on the Celebration stage after the show's panel at the convention.

This year's "Star Wars Celebration" has officially kicked off, with Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase opening the highly-anticipated event with exciting details about the second season of "Andor." Tony Gilroy's gritty, grounded take on "Star Wars" has a second season in the works, which is aiming for an estimated August 2024 premiere date, per Gilroy himself, who revealed the news during the event's opening panel:
"We started shooting in November [2022]. We're about halfway through. We're going to shoot through August [2023]. We're on the exact schedule. Finish in August, spend another year on post. I suppose we'll come out the following August."

Luscasfilm unveiled its first look at Season 2 of its Disney+ series “Andor” on Friday as part of the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in London.
The 12-episode first season of “Andor,” created and executive produced by “Rogue One” co-writer Tony Gilroy, debuted in September to wide acclaim for its sprawling, ground-level depiction of the formation of the Rebel Alliance. Set five years before the events of “Rogue One,” the first season tracks a year in the life of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he transforms from a cynical, small-time criminal into a man ready to join the fight against the Galactic Empire.
Gilroy explained on Friday that the team is working as quickly as possible to get Season 2 done. Shooting began in November and is expected to wrap in August. The creator predicted the show will hit Disney+ in August 2024.
“If you know your ending, it really helps,” said Gilroy.

Gilroy explained on Friday that the team is working as quickly as possible to get Season 2 done. Shooting began in November and is expected to wrap in August. The creator predicted the show will hit Disney+ in August 2024.
“If you know your ending, it really helps,” said Gilroy.

With “John Wick: Chapter 4”, the saga of John Wick comes to a satisfactory conclusion, or not, given that there is a hint at the possibility of his return in the closing sequence. Looking back at how the franchise started with production concerns and a small budget, to blazing through an almost decade-long journey where its already iconic status has guaranteed a number of spin-offs and the biggest action stars joining the ventures, it’s safe to say “John Wick” has come a long way. Regardless of whether the Baba Yaga is summoned once again or not, there are multiple storylines and character arcs we wish to see attaining completion, and hopefully, the makers will take note of the popular demand as well.

This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4."
In the world of John Wick, you simply never know which anonymous face in the crowd is hellbent on trying to kill you or what unexpected ally might suddenly arrive to help you out of a jam. The line between hunted and hunter has never been thinner than it is in "John Wick: Chapter 4." As the reluctant assassin's revenge tour reaches its crescendo, it becomes painfully clear to both Keanu Reeves' Wick and the audience that actions have consequences that ripple out far beyond our hero's grief-stricken shortsightedness. The greatest trick that the fourth film pulls comes from externalizing this idea through the introduction of a new character: Donnie Yen's Caine.
Caine isn't too far afield from the typical secondary villain established throughout the "John Wick" franchise. The first "Wick" sequel had the likes of Adrianne Palicki's Ms. Perkins...

Andy Serkis made a surprise appearance in Disney+’s “Star Wars” show “Andor” when he showed up as Cassian Andor‘s inmate Kino Loy. But it wasn’t just a little cameo or even a one-off guest appearance. Instead, he featured significantly in the show’s best arc.
Diego Luna‘s Cassian wound up in prison on Narkina 5 while on the run from Empire officials. There, he was swiftly put to work in a nightmarish work-till-you-drop environment. Serkis’ Kino was a fellow inmate tasked with being a floor manager to keep productivity high. At first, Kino was gruff and stuck to the book but as Andor helped to reveal the corruption and unavoidable doom of the prison, Kino warmed up to Cassian and eventually created a plan to break out with him. In the end, Kino was instrumental in helping Cassian and his fellow inmates escape.

Fiona Shaw has racked up three Emmy bids across her storied career so far. Two came for Best Drama Supporting Actress for “Killing Eve” in 2019 and 2020 while she also earned a Comedy Guest Actress bid in 2019 for another Phoebe Waller-Bridge project — “Fleabag.” Now, she deserves a fourth nomination for a role that just bagged her a BAFTA TV nomination.
Shaw stars in the latest Disney+ “Star Wars” show “Andor” and left quite the impression. She played Maarva Andor, the adoptive mother to Diego Luna‘s titular Cassian Andor. In the show, she is protective of her adoptive son but also finds a hard-fought rebellious streak as the Empire takes a hold of her home planet, Ferrix.
Maarva becomes a key part of the growing rebellion on Ferrix and, even though she dies before the show’s 12th and final episode, she plays a huge part in the finale. Her droid,...

“Andor” is a strong contender to crack the Emmy Best Drama Series lineup this year, earning favorable reviews and awards buzz after its Disney Plus premiere last fall. But is there room on the nominees list for two ‘Star Wars’ shows, with the sophisticated sci-fi noir competing against “The Mandalorian,” its comrade from a galaxy far, far away? That show’s third season (currently streaming weekly) is in the hunt for a third consecutive nomination in the top category after its breakthrough in 2020 and follow-up nomination in 2021.
“The Mandalorian” became the third space-set drama ever nominated in Best Drama Series after “Star Trek: The Next Generation” three decades ago in 1994 and the original “Star Trek” almost three decades before that in 1967 and 1968. There’s a real possibility that “Andor” will be the fourth.

"Andor" is a "Star Wars" story like no other. It's a grounded and bleak drama about radicalization and oppression, a show that finally lets us experience the true evils of the Empire, and a show that illustrates why the Rebellion was necessary. Though it still connected to the rest of the "Star Wars" franchise, "Andor" didn't pander to fan service that felt forced in order to tease some grander plan.
Arguably the highlight of the first season (which also features phenomenal outings like the heist episode) is the prison arc on Narkina 5. This is the most self-contained arc of the season, as it has no direct impact on the larger plot — least of all compared to the Aldhani heist, which brings Cassian Andor's actions to the Empire's attention. And yet, this is the arc that changes everything, not only for Cassian and the show at large, but for the galaxy itself.

During a time when the "Star Wars" universe is in the course of rapid expansion with a plethora of ongoing and lined-up television shows, it is tough for stories to break the mold and emerge as a standalone entry. These stacked odds did not stop "Andor" series creator Tony Gilroy from penning a nuanced, character-driven "Star Wars" saga that unabashedly explores the grounded complexity of survival under a fascist regime. Tracing the roots of rebel hero Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), who played a prominent role in the events of "Rogue One," "Andor" delivered consistently solid episodes that fleshed out the character and the often-ruthless world that people like Cassian were forced to inhabit. Gilroy not only pulled off emotionally resonant, action-heavy set pieces but also filled in the ideological blanks to etch the complex characters who drive the politically-charged narrative forward.
This begs the question: How did Gilroy and co.

Diego Luna Is Grateful ‘Andor’ Will End After Season 2: It’s ‘Really Important for My Mental Health’
When your day job is spent plotting a rebellion in a galaxy far, far away, it helps to have something that can bring you back down to Earth — or whatever planet you call home.
When he’s not the Empire’s most wanted on Disney+’s “Andor,” Diego Luna grounds himself by returning to the theater. He grew up going with his father, and it has been the constant of his career.
“In a way, it has kept me sane,” says the actor after a long day on the London set of “Andor” Season 2. “Theater is a great way to go back and put your feet on the ground and remind you what this is all about.”
In between production on seasons 1 and 2, he spent two months on a Madrid stage leading “Cada vez nos despedimos major,” a monologue that only featured himself, a musician and three lamps. It was...

The "Star Wars" series "Andor" is a bit of a unicorn within the franchise. After so many hits and misses in recent years, "Andor" felt like a completely different take on the galaxy far, far away. For a lot of fans, it's kind of a flawless show, and it's got a lot of us wishing it could go on forever. It is, after all, meant to explore the last five years of its titular hero's life, before he (tragically) dies at the end of "Rogue One." Given the projected timeline, one would expect "Andor" to span five seasons, one for each year. But from the very beginning, "Andor" was slated for just two seasons, not five — and in spite of our hopes for an extension, showrunner Tony Gilroy is pretty adamant about working with what he's got. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Gilroy explained why the conventional formula...

The Star Wars universe has created some of the most terrifying villains in cinema and TV history. Dark Lords of the Sith can shoot lightning from their fingertips and strangle you from miles away through the Force. Cruel bounty hunters will kill anyone for the right price. Crime lords on lawless planets feed their prisoners to their big carnivorous pets.
Then there’s the Empire, a tyrannical galactic power inspired by real-world fascist ideologies, which is horrifying in both its aims and the way in which it executes them. The self-branded “New Order” has been the major antagonist throughout the Star Wars saga since its start in 1977 and has shown up in many different forms since, including as the Imperial Remnant in The Mandalorian (and tons of classic books and comics) and as a reborn Sith war machine in The Rise of Skywalker. Of all the "Star Wars" projects that have been released in recent years, there hasn't been one quite like "Andor." The series, created by Tony Gilroy, took an entirely different approach to the galaxy and its characters, using it to tell a grounded story that filled in the events between movies and shows while also engaging as its own separate entity. Despite the fact that Cassian Andor's story very clearly ends with "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the creative team behind the series tried to make the story of the character's place in the rebellion as fresh as possible, with new characters and stories that paint the story of the "Star Wars" rebellion that everyone thinks they know in an entirely different light.

It's that time again: a new "John Wick" film is nearly upon us. And with every new entry in this refreshing and excessively violent action franchise comes a slew of new and colorful characters played by some remarkable talent. For example, in "Chapter 2" we saw Common playing Cassian, an old rival turned bitter enemy. Then there was Halle Berry in "John Wick: Chapter 3," whose character made way for some of the most creative action sequences involving two German shepherds.
For the upcoming "John Wick: Chapter 4,Hong Kong martial arts actor Donnie Yen will bring his considerable credentials into the assassin arena. Most recently, Yen has displayed impressive action and choreography in the "Ip Man" movies and in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," where he played the blind warrior-monk Chirrut Îmwe. Cassian returns to help with a harrowing procedure to save a patient with a very rare disease that’s barely treatable — and he’s not the only one who will be part of this operation. It’s going to take every highly trained surgeon the hospital has ever known. For two decades, the SAG Awards all but ignored science fiction on TV. There were exceptions, of course — the ensembles of “3rd Rock From the Sun,” “The X-Files” and “Lost” were all nominated, and John Lithgow, Kristen Johnston, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson earned individual recognition. It wasn’t until the 2016 SAG Awards — when the first seasons of “Westworld” and “Stranger Things” both earned nominations for their ensembles and their respective stars Thandie Newton, Millie Bobby Brown and Winona Ryder — that the guild began to regularly consider sci-fi performances as worthy of recognition alongside other series.
Even then, however, nominated shows “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Lovecraft Country” and “Squid Game” sit on the fringes of what most people even consider to be science fiction. This year, the SAG Awards have the opportunity to nominate ensembles and performances on multiple shows that sit enthusiastically at sci-fi’s center.

Everything about "Andor" season 1 feels like a deviation from the other live-action "Star Wars" series to date. From the structure of its 12-episode first season into distinct narrative arcs to the methodical pacing of the show, "Andor" clearly strives to focus more on the story it's telling than the galaxy it takes place in. While some might consider certain episodes of the show to be dragged out, series creator Tony Gilroy's intentions were always to ground every event on the show with strong emotional stakes. The same rules would apply when it came time for the action in the series. After all, at the end of the day, "Andor" is still a "Star Wars" show, meaning there has to be a fight involving blasters or lightsabers at some point.

"Andor" has completed the first of two seasons in the story leading up to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," and we've added some great new characters to a galaxy far, far away. Since this is "Star Wars" we're talking about, it only makes sense that one of the very best of them is a droid. It was easy to fall in love with the boxy B2EMO, the companion to Maarva (Fiona Shaw), Cassian's (Diego Luna) adoptive mother. He is a bit grumpy here and there, and he's not so good at lying, but mostly, he's just watching out for the friend he loves and is protective of her after so many years together. Droids may have a shelf life, but if they stay in good condition, they'll sadly outlive many of their human buddies.

The Disney+ series "Andor" has finished the first of its two seasons, giving us the backstory of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the rebel pilot who helps steal the Death Star plans in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." In the 2016 film, Cassian says he's been in the fight since he was six years old, though we didn't get a lot of his backstory until now, when early episodes of the series take us to his home planet of Kenari, a lush green place that has been destroyed by an Imperial mining operation.
A mining disaster leaves the children alone to fend for themselves. And though the series gives us no subtitles, we get the gist of what's going on in the flashback scenes. The children are clustered together, planning to scavenge an Imperial ship that has gone down. It's clear that there are no adults there to help out, and...

Tony Gilroy has spoken at length about how tight the scripts on “Andor” were and needed to be. But there’s tight and then there’s absolutely no extra material, which made the challenge of bringing the show together in the edit a question of adjusting the smallest details and points of focus. Two of the three Gilroy brothers, creator Tony and editor John, joined the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast to discuss pulling each storytelling block of “Andor” together, brick by Ferrix brick.
“We reshot a couple things — maybe three scenes, or something like that, because we thought we could do them better.” Tony Gilroy said. “We had a better idea and we were given the opportunity. Where You Can Stream It: Disney+
The Pitch: "I'm beginning to think the Force and I have different priorities." This is a simple throwaway line that Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) utters in "Rogue One," but anyone who's spent enough time in the galaxy far, far away, may have felt the same sentiment toward Disney, Lucasfilm, or George Lucas himself, somewhere along the way.
It's only been six years since the theatrical release of "Rogue One," but already that feels like a lifetime ago. So much has happened since 2016, in both the "Star Wars" franchise and the world at large, with the highs and lows of fandom playing out with the Skywalker sequels — as...

"Andor" brought a head-spinning number of firsts to the "Star Wars" galaxy. These included the first mouse droid sidestep, the first arranged marriage, and the first breakfast cereal. Welcome as these obvious moments were, the series also brought in some head-scratchers.
One of "Andor's" best qualities is its predilection to show, not tell. Its weakest moments come when characters are speechifying or spelling out the obvious. When viewers are trusted to figure out the action and connections for themselves, they feel far more involved and attuned to these new aspects of the galaxy.
Stiil, the showing sometimes goes too far, or the rapid-fire, naturalistic dialogue is a little too naturalistic. Some of the quick pivots slip past even the most avid "Star Wars" fans (Who cheered the canon introduction of Emperor's Hands in the form of a character's tattoo?). While "Andor" handles its subtle fan service beautifully, a few moments could still use some clarification.

Initially written off as just another unnecessary spin-off for an ancillary character from a spin-off from the main film series, "Andor" has instead emerged as one of the most exciting, viscerally thrilling, politically charged additions to the "Star Wars" universe since, well, the very first film. With Tony Gilroy at the helm, the series features an array of new characters, masterful pacing, and a dark oppressive feel that hangs over every episode.
"Andor" has constantly hopped between genres, from a heist film to a prison escape to a rebel uprising. It's been described by some as "Les Misérables in space," not something you would expect from the studio that brought you the often frustratingly simple "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "The Book of Boba Fett."
As well as a strong, nuanced turn from Diego Luna at its center, the series features beautifully observed performances from an incredible cast that includes Fiona Shaw,...

[This story contains spoilers for the season finale of Andor.]
When Andor was announced in 2018 , it was just one of a number of Star Wars series in the works for fledgling streaming service Disney+. Four years later, in an age of multiple Star Wars series arriving annually, season one of Andor managed to raise the bar for what a Star Wars show could be by carving out its own corner of the galaxy, one that always existed, but hadn’t been fully explored until now. It could also offer a path forward for Lucasfilm, by proving audiences will embrace storytelling that moves beyond the mythos of the Skywalker Saga.
Before the series, audiences knew Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) from Rogue One as the dedicated Rebel captain who gives his life for the one thing that could turn the tide of their fight: the Death Star plans. The Cassian we meet at the...
