Writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines didn’t go over well with a lot of genre fans – including myself – but it was a big success for the Paramount+ streaming service. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, “The movie debuted as the No. 1 title on Paramount+ and quickly broke the streamer’s record for the most-watched Paramount+ original movie within the first 30 days of a film’s release in the U.S.” So it’s no surprise that Paramount has renewed their first-look deal with Anderson Beer and her production banner Lab Brew, allowing the filmmaker to continue developing a slate of projects for the studio. This slate includes the new version of Sleepy Hollow that Beer was said to be working on back in 2022.

Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer and her production banner Lab Brew.
In re-upping the deal, the studio has also picked up Here Comes the Dark, a supernatural thriller spec script by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, the duo who co-wrote the 2022 thriller Don’t Worry Darling. Anderson Beer and Lab Brew will produce.
Paramount’s renewal is a vote of confidence in Anderson Beer, who wrote and made her feature directorial debut with the horror movie Pet Sematary: Bloodline for the studio last year. The movie debuted as the No. 1 title on Paramount+ and quickly broke the streamer’s record for the most-watched Paramount+ original movie within the first 30 days of a film’s release in the U.S. Anderson Beer broke through by writing the popular Netflix movie Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

Freelance animator Marcus Kliewer was already having a rough year when the pandemic hit. Supported by a Canadian unemployment program, the Vancouver resident decided to pour his energy into writing short horror stories and posting them on Reddit’s r/nosleep community.
The 28-year-old posted his first story of the pandemic in September. Three months later, his work was discovered by Ground Control Entertainment’s Scott Glassgold. In June, Netflix announced a screen-rights deal for his story “We Used to Live Here,” with Blake Lively attached to star and produce alongside Ground Control and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho.
“If it wasn’t for Cerb (the unemployment program), I would be landscaping right now,” Kliewer told IndieWire. “Instead, I was writing six days a week full time.”
Kliewer said he also made a two book, high-six-figure deal with a major publishing company; he’s not saying which one, since it’s yet to be announced.

Exclusive: In another deal that shows the streamer-fueled appetite for promising material and packages, Netflix has made a low-seven-figure commitment between rights to the Matt Query short story My Wife & I Bought a Ranch, and scripting fees for the author’s brother Harrison Query to write the screenplay. Netflix continues to make big deals with big talent to make original movies for them and their subscribers. They just picked up a film pitch for a movie called War Party that will star Tom Hardy. They made a seven-figure deal for the project, and it doesn't hurt that they have Ridley Scott on board to produce it.
The film is being co-written by Andrew Dominik, who is also set to direct the film. If you aren't familiar with that name, he directed Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. If you haven't seen that movie yet, you really need to because it's a stunning film.
There isn't much know about the story for the film, but we know that it based on a true story that follows a team of real-life Navy Seals and that life rights were a part of the deal.

Well, that didn’t take long. No sooner had Deadline reported that War Party, a hot package with Tom Hardy, Andrew Dominik and Ridley Scott attached to star, direct and produce in that order, was pitched to buyers and we now have confirmation that Netflix has acquired the starry project for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.
The acquisition brings an end to an admittedly short, but no less heated bidding war between the online streamer and a handful of rivalling studios – namely Amazon, Universal, and Lionsgate – and The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) will pen the Navy Seal thriller alongside up-and-coming writer Harrison Query. Ridley Scott, meanwhile, is attached in a producing capacity, and his involvement heralds a reunion between the filmmaker’s Scott Free Films and Tom Hardy following hit period drama, Taboo.

Courtesy of backing from Netflix, it was thought Andrew Dominik‘s next film would be his long-in-the-works Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde. However, with the struggle to find a leading actress, the film looks to be put on hold in favor of a new drama, once again in a Netflix deal (which, every new day, seems to be a recurring phrase around these parts).
The project is War Party, a Ridley Scott-produced adventure film that will find Tom Hardy starring as a real-life Navy Seal. Although not a great deal more is known about the next film by The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford director, he co-write the script with Harrison Query, who has written the yet-to-be-produced Honor for Sale that John Hillcoat is attached to direct.
As for Dominik, this presumably action-oriented project based on a true story — which Netflix beat Amazon, Universal, and Lionsgate...

Taking him further down the subvert-a-comedic-performer’s-persona trail blazed with Crystal Fairy and Nasty Baby, writer-director Sebastian Silva is hoping to have Will Ferrell lead Captain Dad, a “family thriller” that’s nabbed Catherine Keener and his Crystal Fairy / Magic Magic star Michael Cera. [Variety]
On paper, its set-up doesn’t sound worlds apart from Ferrell’s best-known work: Rich Peelman (there’s your first sign) celebrates his wife’s (Keener) birthday by taking her, their six children, and the children’s partners “on a trip through the Caribbean on a sail boat.” But things go awry when his “subpar sailing abilities [there’s the second] and clashes of attitude with the rest of the family are brought into question” — supposedly to ends more overtly dramatic than comedic.
With good forces (including Archer Gray and Christine Vachon‘s Killer Films) supporting it, we should hear more about Captain Dad in the coming months. Based on established facts,...
