Denis Villeneuve got deadly serious when io9 mentioned the Dune Lego set to him. “I’ll be honest with you,” the director of Dune: Part Two said. “Probably I’m making movies because first I was a hardcore Lego player.

"The Last Jedi" is one of the most controversial "Star Wars" sequels produced since George Lucas made five hugely controversial sequels to his first "Star Wars," and the most controversial until somehow, Palpatine returned. The film also does a lot of things right, interrogating the idea of the hero's journey and of the Jedi in the story of Luke Skywalker, expanding our understanding of the galaxy far, far away with the politically-charged Canto Bight subplot, and delivering one of the all-time greatest "Star Wars" fights with the duel in Snoke's throne room.
Though "The Last Jedi" features some of the best "Star Wars" movie moments ever (according to us), there were some stunning moments that didn't make it to the film. This includes a scene that really delves into Luke's struggles with the legacy of the Jedi, which adds to the overall message of the film and arguably explains Luke's...

For better or worse, Palpatine is the big bad of the entire "Star Wars" saga as we know it, and even if you look at it more closely rather than look at the macro story, it's always Force-users who are the villains. We have Vader in the original trilogy, Maul, Dooku, and Palpatine in the prequels, and Kylo Ren and Snoke in the sequel trilogy. Even "Star Wars Rebels" had big force-sensitive villains like the Inquisitors, Vader, and Maul.
Other than "Andor" and its rather despicable human villains, every bad guy we've faced use the Force. That is, until now, because "Heir to the Empire" is coming, and with it, one of the biggest "Star Wars" villains ever: Thrawn. After having a big role in "Rebels," and after teases all throughout "Mandalorian," the trailer for "Ahsoka" finally showed us the Chiss Grand Admiral in the flesh. According to the cowboy hat himself,...

The first trailer for Illumination and Universal’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has arrived and, well, it looks pretty much exactly like you’d expect an animated movie based on the beloved video game franchise would look. But people were just as interested in what Mario would sound like, since Mario is being voiced by Chris Pratt, who has gone to great lengths to suggest that the voice he has come up with was “unlike anything” in the games and very, very cool. As it turns out, not so much! And while we don’t hear much from him in the trailer (which is very much a teaser), it was enough to make Twitter absolutely lose its mind.
Gizmodo editor James Whitbrook said that the voice was just Pratt’s normal speaking voice “with a slightly racist accent,” while Vulture film critic Allison Wilmore put up a screen shot...

The wait for “Black Widow” is just about over, meaning critics can finally share their thoughts on Scarlett Johansson’s long-awaited solo Marvel film and the first post-pandemic flick in the MCU. Many reviews have praised the movie’s high-octane action and empowering message, but one critic seems to have missed the memo on the latter point, leading readers to slam him as “creepy” and “f—ing gross.”
Published on Tuesday, Peter Bradshaw’s review of “Black Widow” for The Guardian includes some bizarre observations, beginning with its opening sentence. “The sensuous cough-syrup purr of Scarlett Johansson’s voice is something I’ve missed in lockdown,” Bradshaw wrote. “Now it’s back with a throaty vengeance.”
But wait, there’s also an unnecessary detour into the protagonist’s “daddy issues.” Later in the piece, Bradshaw surmises about Black Widow’s relationship with her father, played by David Harbour, and whether...

The long-anticipated trailer for the so-called Snyder cut of “Justice League” premiered on Sunday morning and with it came one of the most talked-about moments: an original conversation between Jared Leto’s Joker and Ben Affleck’s Batman, where Joker says: “We live in a society [long pause] where honor is a distant memory.”
If you spend any meaningful amount of time on the internet, you’ll know that particular line has been a meme for years — starting in the early 90’s with “Seinfeld” and carrying over to the message boards/Reddit. At a certain point a few years ago, it became associated with the Joker, as people would tweet or share it with a photo of the character — despite the fact that the character has never actually said the line out loud.
Until now.
We can’t help but assume that this bit is some kind of troll from director Zack Snyder...

I have to say that I agree with James Whitbrook of Gizmodo that it’s interesting how this movie seems to have placed Gretel in the driver’s seat for the story, while Hansel is kind of the tagalong that his older sister has to take with her. It’s kind of laughable to think that there’s no message there, but in the face of what the movie seems to offer it might be just fine to let it go and focus instead on the fact that a fairy tale that was so severely messed-up in the first place has taken on a

There was a lot of concern initially when it came to The Witcher since the idea of what Henry Cavill was going to look like in his long, white wig was a big issue for a while, and then came the idea of whether the show would stick close to the books or the movies that were made so popular. Thankfully James Whitbrook of Gizmodo has discovered that the story will be following the books instead of the game, a decision which seems to be popular with the fans at this point. There have been some criticisms about The Witcher

It’s the end of an era as James Whitbrook of Gizmodo seems to be getting at. While Mad magazine isn’t exactly dead in the water it’s going to cease publishing new content very soon and will no longer be the magazine that a lot of us remember. This is kind of a saddening time as the magazine has been running since the 50s and has almost always come up with brand new and engaging material that’s been able to make just about anyone laugh so long as they had a sense of humor. Mad has satirized so many different shows,

According to James Whitbrook of Gizmodo there’s not much that can be said about Paul Rudd’s character in the upcoming Ghostbusters 3, or as it’s been labeled, Ghostbusters 2020. What can be said is that his character will be a teacher and will be somehow connected to the main cast members, so it seems fair to say that we’ll see more of him than just a quick cameo before he’s out of the picture. It’s not even certain if he’ll be part of the team or if he’ll be one of the characters affected by the story line, but whatever

If you don’t know what Cowboy Bebop is it might be time to brush up and watch a few episodes so that you won’t be entirely lost when the live-action series finally comes to Netflix. James Whitbrook of io9 and many others, including Joe Otterson from Variety are excited to report on the live action series that will soon be unfolding and giving fans what they’ve been wanting for so long. One would almost think that such a show would have come along some time before now, but it would seem that the show, despite being popular in its time,

As promised, the “best week ever” for Marvel fans is officially underway, and it’s off to a fantastic start.
Earlier tonight, it all began with a new trailer for Captain Marvel, which gave us a much better idea of the cosmic adventure that awaits us this coming March, as well as teasing more of the Skrulls, Nick Fury, Carol Danvers’ incredible powers and a whole lot of other awesomeness that we can’t wait to see on the big screen.
All in all, it was another hugely promising look at the film and of course, the fans are loving it. Taking to Twitter, folks have begun reacting and it’s safe to say that Marvel’s won viewers over once again, with everyone seemingly pretty hyped up for Captain Marvel.
Below, you’ll find just a sampling of what folks are saying about the latest trailer:

Univision is looking to sell both Gizmodo Media Group and The Onion, the company announced Tuesday.
“The Company has initiated a formal process to explore the sale of the assets comprising the Gizmodo Media Group (Gmg) and The Onion,” Univision’s statement said.
“The Company determined that pursuing a sale of Gmg and The Onion collectively will allow Uci to focus on its core assets and further strengthen Uci’s position as the No. 1 media company serving U.S. Hispanics, while enabling both Gmg and The Onion even greater opportunities to grow under new ownership.”
