Editor’s Note: The article below contains spoilers for the Dexter Series finale and Dexter: New Blood’s Season 1 finale. Now that the character of Dexter (Michael C. One of these spin-offs that has been confirmed so far is Dexter: Trinity, which will focus on the character of Arthur Miller (John Lithgow) in the years before Dexter season 4 as he commits horrific crimes as the Trinity Killer. No TV show has truly had a series finale as long as the network or streaming service can produce a revival. TV sitcoms like Full House, Saved by the Bell, and Will & Grace returned. Dramas have reunited their casts, or at least passed the torch to the next generation. Here are six of the best TV drama revivals of the last decade.
Raymond Lee and Caitlin Bassett | Ron Batzdorff/NBC ‘Dallas’ revived the TV drama until real-life tragedy occurred
TNT brought back the hit drama Dallas with original cast members Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, and Linda Gray as the original Ewings. Jesse Metcalfe, Josh Henderson, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, and Emma Bell played the new generation battling over the family oil business.
Unfortunately, Hagman died while filming the second season. The show quickly adjusted existing footage to explain J.R. Ewing’s off screen death, but the show could never recover.

Following the success of Dexter: New Blood and the renewed interest in the franchise, the writers of the show have been hard at work creating numerous Dexter spin-offs. These shows include season 2 of Dexter: New Blood which will focus on Harrison (Jack Alcott) following the death of Dexter (Michael C. Hall), and the prequel Dexter: Origins, which will follow Dexter in his early years as a serial killer. Perhaps the most interesting series that is in the works is Dexter: Trinity, which will follow the notorious Trinity Killer (John Lithgow) on his journey to becoming one of the most...

Exclusive: Peacock has an ace up its sleeve with Rian Johnson‘s Poker Face.
The series jumped to No. 2 on Nielsen’s U.S. streaming originals list for the week of January 30 to February 5 with 641M minutes viewed. That’s up from the 547M viewing minutes it managed in its first week on Peacock, with its four-episode debut.
The No. 1 spot on the streaming originals list once again went to Ginny & Georgia, though it’s worth nothing that the Netflix series had 20 available episodes to help bolster its 900M viewing minutes for the week.
In terms of average audience, Poker Face takes the top spot since the series only had five episodes available at the time.
Poker Face, which hails from MRC and T-Street and stars Natasha Lyonne, scored an early Season 2 renewal in February. New episodes of Season 1 are currently debuting every Thursday through March 9. This week’s episode is directed by Johnson.

After its disappointing ending, Dexter was rebooted with Dexter: New Blood, which gave fans of the show a satisfying conclusion. However, the series once again ended on a cliffhanger, leaving a possibility of continuing with future seasons. Dexter: New Blood Season 2 is now confirmed to be happening and should follow Harrison (Jack Alcott) as he deals with the aftermath of the shocking conclusion of Season 1. With Dexter (Michael C. No lie, “Poker Face” will enter the Emmy awards race as a comedy. The show is an hour-long whodunit but also contains plenty of comedic elements, which is why Peacock has decided to enter it in that lane. News comes as awards consultants across town make the final decision on where to place their programs, as the Television Academy officially opens this year’s Emmy submissions starting Feb. 21.
For example, on Friday, Variety exclusively reported that HBO’s “The White Lotus” would submit in the drama space, after the TV Academy ruled that it no longer qualified as a limited series (due to the return of star Jennifer Coolidge)
In the case of “Poker Face,” the decision to enter in comedy comes as the show continues earn strong reviews from critics. “Poker Face” is currently “99% certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite its whodunit nature, insiders note that Lyonne is widely...

Though Dexter: New Blood didn’t inherit its predecessor’s longevity, it got one major thing right. The show did a bang-up job offering the much-needed service of wrapping up the titular character’s story. At last, the anti-hero met an end more fitting than a disappointing fake death and identity change. After Dexter‘s (Morgan C. Hall) almost-poetic death at the hand of his own son, it’s natural to want more out of that storyline. The more logical route would be to take would be a deeper delve into Harrison’s (Jack Alcott) story. It’s got just the right elements for thorough world-building, and

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Poker Face, Season 1, Episode 7, “The Future of the Sport.”] You may recognize Jack Alcott when his character Randy pops up in the latest episode of Peacock‘s newly-renewed Poker Face, but it’s understandable if it takes a moment or two to place him. That’s because the actor looks and sounds quite different from when he was Harrison Morgan in Showtime‘s Dexter: New Blood. This time around, he’s playing a go-kart track employee who is besties with Charles Melton‘s Davis McDowell, an up-and-coming racer who has a beef with seasoned vet Keith Owens (Tim Blake Nelson). The feuding racers’ conflict ultimately leads to devastating consequences when Keith’s daughter Katy (Jasmine Aiyana Garvin) winds up severely injured after Davis allows her to drive his car, which was tampered with by Keith. The only catch is, Davis knew the vehicle wasn’t working right and further incapacitated...

Showtime’s taking a deep dive into the world of Dexter, the serial killer who kills serial killers, with an origin series and more of Dexter: New Blood. The origin story, currently titled Dexter: Origins but that may change, will examine Dexter Morgan’s backstory.
Per Showtime: “Dexter: Origins will dramatize young Dexter Morgan at the outset of his transition into the avenging serial killer he would become. Set in the Miami that was a hotbed of real serial killers of his time, the show will begin as Dexter graduates college to join Miami Metro, where he meets younger versions of many of the characters we came to know in the original Dexter. And, of course, the show will also focus on Dexter’s family, including a very-much-alive Harry and a very formidable, teenage Deb.”

This article contains major spoilers for "Dexter: New Blood."
If there's one way to rile up the internet, all you need to do is bring up the series finale of "Dexter." The Showtime crime drama, which ran for eight seasons, saw the titular serial killer vigilante seemingly meet his end after driving his boat into the middle of a hurricane as his way to pay for his destructive actions. But in a last little moment, we see that Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is still alive, moonlighting as a lumberjack somewhere. For years, devoted series followers had to sit with that head-scratcher of an ending, that is, until "Dexter: New Blood" picked up a decade after the self-imposed exile.

The 2021 revival of “Dexter”, titled “Dexter: First Blood”, proved to be phenomenally successful for Showtime with the finale bringing in a record-breaking 3 million viewers — so why isn’t a second season in the works?
According to a report from Deadline, there have been “talks” about more “Dexter” but nothing definitive.
TVLine goes a step further to report that a sequel series had been in the works — focusing on Harrison (Jack Alcott), son of Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan — but those plans won’t be moving forward.

However, the outlet also points out that doesn’t mean Showtime is abandoning the franchise completely.
In fact, Showtime is reported “exploring a number of new iterations” of the series, including a prequel series that would focus on the younger years of Dexter.

If you haven’t watched Dexter: New Blood, there will be spoilers. Eight years after Dexter concluded, Showtime brought the Michael C. Hall series back for Dexter: New Blood. The series was conceived as a limited series, but its success led to the network considering a second season. TVLine has heard that Dexter: New Blood won’t continue, but that Showtime is considering a Dexter prequel series instead.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips wanted to use Dexter: New Blood as an opportunity to set things right and conclude Dexter’s story in a more satisfactory manner. The limited series found the serial killer with a heart of gold reuniting with his son Harrison (Jack Alcott). While attempting to bond with his now grown-up child, they begin investigating a sinister killer hiding in plain sight in their small town. The finale found Dexter breaking his own code by killing an innocent man and...

Since Dexter: New Blood was such a success for Showtime, there has to be some kind of killer sequel in the works, right?
Not exactly, Deadline has learned. There have been talks about expanding the Dexter universe but that’s all they are for now — talks. One of the ideas that has been discussed is a prequel but nothing is solid at this time.
A spokesperson for Showtime declined comment.
Interest in the future of the franchise has taken a front seat after Paramount Global said Tuesday that Showtime will no longer be a stand-alone brand. The company is rebranding the premium cable network as Paramount+ with Showtime as part of a wide-ranging change that also brings the two brands together in the streaming world.

Showtime is letting dead things lie as the premium channel kills off hopes for a second season of Dexter: New Blood, the sequel spinoff to their former Emmy darling, Dexter. According to TV Line, New Blood is officially dead in the water as Showtime plans to pivot with its future for the tormented serial killer. As fans will recall, Dexter ran on Showtime from 2006 to 2013 and it followed the criminal exploits of serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). Following a less-than-satisfying finale, viewers finally got some answers about what happened to Dexter following the original show’s run when the sequel spinoff debuted in 2022. (Credit: Seacia Pavao/Showtime) The show’s concluding episode certainly set up a path for Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott) who reunited with him partway through the season. After Dexter’s misdeeds in town, Harrison follows in dear old dad’s footsteps, killing the titular serial killer.

"Dexter" is a show with a history almost as tumultuous as that of its titular antihero. The gory crime drama follows Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a blood spatter analyst by day and vigilante serial killer by night. Season 1 of the Showtime drama debuted in 2006 to positive reviews and reigned as the premium channel's highest-rated series for the next four years. Seasons 2 and 4 are widely regarded as the show's best, with the latter boasting a fantastic performance by John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer, one of TV's most terrifying villains. After the departure of showrunner Clyde Phillips, "Dexter" began a downward slide that ran all the way up to its disappointing series finale, frequently remembered as one of the worst of all time. Eight years after Dexter drove his boat into the eye of a hurricane, the serial killer with a heart of gold returned in "Dexter: New Blood," a...

“I literally knew nothing about the show,” admits Jack Alcott about landing the role of Harrison Morgan in “Dexter: New Blood.” The original Showtime series starring Michael C. Hall aired from 2006 to 2013, spanning the ages of 10 to 17 for the actor. “I was not old enough to watch it. I knew it was a great show and a lot of people watched it. When the audition came in I was like, oh, this is cool.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Throughout the audition process, Alcott was never actually told he would be playing Dexter’s son. “There was a fake name,” he explains. “I was auditioning for ‘Randall,’ who was vaguely described as a likable kid, but he’s got something going on. I was like, ‘Oh, he’s definitely going to be a bad guy, this is so cool.’ Then throughout a series of auditions…I learned this is Dexter’s son.

This article contains spoilers for Dexter: New Blood.
Regardless of what some fans and critics thought about Showtime’s Dexter revival, Dexter: New Blood has officially become the network’s most-watched series of all time. The show’s 10-episode run averaged around 8 million viewers a week. That’s more than Showtime’s previous signature series, Homeland, and the 3 million viewers that watched the Dexter: New Blood finale helped the revival overcome Homeland season 3’s finale in 2013 to become the most watched season finale on the network. Further, two million of those viewers came from streaming and on-demand platforms, setting another new record for Showtime.
“We’re thrilled by the overwhelming response from the millions of fans of Dexter: New Blood these past 10 weeks,” said the entertainment president of Showtime Networks, Gary Levine. “Whether they loved the finale or couldn’t bear to see it end, we so appreciate their passion.

Fans of the hit Showtime series Dexter, which ran eight seasons from 2006-2013, rejoined the former Miami Metro blood spatter analyst —now known by the alias Jim Lindsay—and have enthusiastically tuned in to watch his final adventure unfold. This Dexter: New Blood review contains spoilers.
Dexter: New Blood Episode 7
When it was announced that Dexter: New Blood would be eschewing the original series’ 13-episode format for a more streamlined 10-episode order, it was a sign that perhaps the new adventures of Dexter Morgan would improve upon areas where the original show’s run faltered. Almost every season of Dexter had more episodes to fill than plot to cover and that led to a lot of wheel spinning, false starts and stops, and needless procedural elements to pad out the season. By shaving off three unnecessary hours. Dexter: New Blood was giving itself the ability to be more immediate and focused.
However, 10 episodes for Dexter: New Blood still seem like too many. While each episode has had its moments to make them worthwhile, it’s clear that the Kurt Caldwell storyline is taking too long to get to its climax.

Well, that escalated quickly.
Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 6 was an hour of nail-biting suspense, subverted expectations, and great character moments.
Secrets have been discovered, but who else will learn about them?
Angela wasted no time confronting Dexter about his identity. Julia Jones and Michael C. Hall played this perfectly. While she was angry and disgusted at his lies and his treatment of Harrison, he was just trying to navigate how much information to impart to appear vulnerable.

How is Dexter going to explain this away? During the Dec. 5 episode of Dexter: New Blood, Chief of Police Angela Bishop (Julia Jones) learned that her boyfriend Jim Lindsay is, in reality, former Miami resident Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). The revelation came about after an encounter with Captain Angel Batista—shout-out to the return of David Zayas—who revealed that a former colleague had a son named Harrison. Then, Angela's daughter Audrey (Johnny Sequoyah) shared that Iron Lake teen Harrison (Jack Alcott) confessed that his dad's name isn't really Jim. After some internet sleuthing, Angela found Dexter's obituary, which included a very telling photo. And,...

“Dexter: New Blood” staged a reunion (of sorts) in the December 5 episode when Dexter’s new girlfriend, Iron Lake Chief of Police Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), met his old coworker, Miami Metro Captain Angel Batista (David Zayas). The last time viewers saw Batista was in the 2013 series finale, when Dexter (Michael C. Hall) drove his boat into a hurricane and made everyone believe he and his son Harrison had died. Zayas now reveals he had “mixed feelings” about that controversial ending, telling EW, “I felt it might’ve been a little underwhelming.”

A decade after Dexter Morgan sailed off into the sunset storm, he’s back and ready for some new blood. Showtime officially greenlit a “Dexter” revival in October 2020, with the premiere date taking place on November 7, 2021. Michael C. Hall is back, of course, as the adorably geeky Bay Harbor Butcher, aka the Miami, Fl blood splatter analyst/serial killer who focuses his bloodlust on murdering other serial killers. Original showrunner Clyde Phillips is also back as an executive producer of the new episodes. Here’s everything to know about “Dexter: New Blood” Season 9, including the cast and trailer.

Dexter just can't help himself.
On Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 5, Dexter took revenge on the man responsible for harming his son -- forgoing Harry's Code for something more primal.
Is he finally getting himself into a mess from which he can't escape?
Michael C. Hall continues to kill it (in every way) as Dexter. He knows this character inside and out, and it shows. Every inflection, every nuanced movement, every sideways glance -- you can tell he relishes this role.
Hall's Dexter is so intriguingly conflicted. He knows he has to tread lightly with Harrison, but he still manages to screw it up. The more he tries to get Harrison to open up to him, the more Harrison pulls away -- and possibly under the wing of an even more terrifying serial killer.
Dexter's humanity is no longer up for debate. In the early seasons of the original series,...

This week’s Dexter: New Blood took on questions fans of Showtime’s serial killer series have been pondering for 12 years. In December 2009, Dexter‘s season four finale shocked audiences when the Trinity Killer (John Lithgow) murdered Rita Morgan (Julie Benz), leaving her and Dexter’s (Michael C. Dexter Morgan’s head must be an interesting place to be. Besides recently coming out of a nearly 10-year break from committing murder, the well-intentioned serial killer, played by Michael C. Hall, has been under an increasing amount of pressure in the revival series Dexter: New Blood. Besides killing again, he’s also come face-to-face with the now-teenage son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), he left behind when he faked his death almost a decade earlier. Plus, he’s maintaining the pretend identity of Iron Lake, New York, community member Jim Lindsay to keep his murderous past in the past. However, that past is very present since in his mind he sees and hears the voice of his deceased sister, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter). Deb’s presence in Dexter’s life is much more intense and more aggressive than when Dexter would see and hear his adopted father Harry (James Remar) in the original series.

Dexter: New Blood Episode 3
Dexter has always been at its best when its titular character has his back against the wall. The issue is that as the series progressed, Dex wiggled out of harm’s way far too easily and far too often, repeatedly saved by coincidence and intervening third parties. It reached a point where it seemed that our anti-hero would walk away from a tight spot with nothing more than a shrug, having learned nothing. Dexter: New Blood still finds the charismatic killer to be a little too slippery and a little too lucky, but there’s enough mounting pressure from mysterious figures like Kurt Caldwell (Clancy Brown) and newly arrived true crime podcaster Molly Park (Jaime Chung) to suggest that Dex is only turning down the heat, not escaping it completely.

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) cannot seem to avoid getting himself into tight spots. Of course, when the Dexter: New Blood revival began, he’d been living a few idyllic years in Iron Lake, NY (under the name Jim Lindsay) and not killing. But when we caught up with him for the first time since the Showtime drama’s 2013 series finale, he quickly has his first kill in nearly a decade and is reunited with his now-teenaged son Harrison (Jack Alcott) and things have been escalating ever since. For Hall, stepping back into the shoes of the well-intentioned serial killer wasn’t a huge challenge for him. “I think the fact that the writers were able to hit that target, that honored our desire to do something new but also honored something fundamental about the show’s DNA and the character,” he told TV Insider’s Jim Halterman. “I discovered he was still there.

On Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 2, that's exactly what he does.
Dexter is more at odds with himself than ever before, but his self-preservation instincts are still intact.

No disrespect to James Remar -- he was always solid -- but as Dexter's priorities and actions have shifted, so has the adversarial voice in his head, foul-mouthed and full of rage.

Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s premiere of Showtime’s Dexter: New Blood premiere
Nearly a decade after Showtime’s Dexter concluded after 8 seasons, serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is back in the limited series New Blood—and boy is he rusty.
In Sunday night’s premiere, Dexter, who now goes by the alias of Jim Lindsay, is revealed to be far away from Sunny Miami and now living in Iron Lake, New York where he’s living with his sister, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter). Deb is back and living in Dexter’s subconscious as his new Dark Passenger. It is as yet unknown if James Remar will pop in at some point to reprise the role of Dexter and Deb’s dad, Harry Morgan—Dexter’s original Dark Passenger.
