We cross the plane between the living and the dead in today's Horror Highlights with details on M.L. Miller's new comic book series Gravetrancers, and we also have the 2018 Telluride Horror Show's call for submissions, info on The Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival's new partnership, and looks at the short films The Ball and The Plague.
Gravetrancers #1: Issue #1 of the new comic book series Gravetrancers is due out on December 13th from Black Mask Studios:
"On a journey to track down the grave of their estranged father, Maribel and Anthony find their way to the Malort Cemetery, a strange, seemingly abandoned field of mostly unmarked tombs. There they encounter an eccentric clan of grave-robbers who’ve devised a highly-addictive drug made from human remains–and the fresher the corpse, the stronger the dose. What started out as an attempt to reconnect with the past becomes a descent into a psychedelic,...

Aubrey Plaza talks social media friendships and Ingrid Goes WestAubrey Plaza talks social media friendships and Ingrid Goes WestBob Strauss - Cineplex Magazine8/17/2017 11:12:00 Am
Aubrey Plaza goes crazy in Ingrid Goes West. But the 33-year-old comic actor — renowned for her ability to make sarcasm, world-weariness and being downright mean hilarious in everything from TV’s "Parks and Recreation" to big-screen broad comedies like 2016’s Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates — also went somewhere else in this cyber-stalking dramedy; deeper and more dramatically into a role than she ever has before.
“This film allowed me to have the screen time to really develop something that is really layered,” says Plaza, wearing a flower-print sundress during a Los Angeles interview. “I don’t get that opportunity that much, and this is all from Ingrid’s perspective, I’m in every single scene in the movie. That’s a lot of...

October 31st is Halloween, when kids (of all ages) dress up to go trick-or-treating. Then, of course, there are the cool adults getting in on the costume fun to go to Halloween parties. Since we are all Bollywood buffs, okay fanatics, we thought it would be fun to poll our writers to see who they would love to dress up if we had a Bollywood Halloween – Bollyween Ball. Boy oh boy were we flooded with amazing and inventive ideas.
Some of these costumes you could probably put together easily. However, some might need extra help from family, tailors, costume designers, stylists, costume engineers and even Oscar winning makeup artist Greg Canoom (transformed Srk in Fan and Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire)!!
Check out how the excellent team of BollySpice would celebrate Halloween Bolly-ish style.

A mentally ill woman’s lottery win sees her become the star of her own televised life in a sharp, sympathetic black comedy
Lifting TV riffs from The Truman Show and To Die For (with a creepy touch of Videodrome), this black comedy casts Kristen Wiig as the habitually unstable Alice Klieg whose $86m lottery win allows her to turn her life into a television show – literally. Having not turned her own TV set off for over a decade, Alice pays a failing shopping channel to give her a show which is “like Oprah”, but without the guests and with only one topic of discussion; herself. Baring her soul through burger-cake cookery classes, live dog neutering, am-dram re-enactments of childhood slights, and (most importantly) “more swans”, Alice attracts cult attention and lawsuits in equal measure. To her great credit, Wiig manages to make Alice both engaging and annoying without ever rendering her ridiculous,...

"Trainwreck," the new Amy Schumer/Judd Apatow movie, examines the plight of one snarly woman as she exits her familiar world of sexual freedom and hangovers for a detour into serious romance. Though several eye-popping cameos and supporting performances buttress the film, Schumer's performance is the acting triumph of "Trainwreck." Without her shaky conscience and burgeoning sense of fulfillment, the movie's conventional story might feel staid. Thankfully, it's anything but. Schumer's performance marks a welcome addition to cinema's long line of strident, hilarious female protagonists. We're celebrating that lineage with a list: the 20 best female-driven comedies ever. Some are old and some are new, but all are marked by a degree of cosmopolitan fun and nerviness -- and the occasional slap from Cher. 20. "How to Marry a Millionaire" We remember Lauren Bacall as a glamor girl with a damning grimace, but let's start revising that narrative to include her chops as a comic force.

This year marks the anniversary of several movies, including the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future, the 40th anniversary of Jaws and the 25th anniversary of Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
