It’s hard to believe it’s been 47 years since we first witnessed the adventures of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but across the nine-movie Skywalker saga, two standalone movies, a multitude of TV series, and one questionable Holiday Special, we’ve learned it’s a big ol’ galaxy out there. With enough characters to fill a Death Star, it’s inevitable that not every player in this grand space opera would get the same attention as Luke, Han, and Leia.
In fact, the franchise has allowed a few characters to slip to the sidelines. From major players who were discarded into the trash compactor to those who didn’t resonate with fans and were quietly pushed to the side, here are 12 Star Wars characters who deserved better.

Anakin Skywalker murdering Younglings in George Lucas's "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" might be both one of the most brutal and darkly ridiculous "Star Wars" moments ever ... from a certain point of view. (*adapts Darth Vader voice* All too easy.)
Upon arriving at the eleventh hour to assist Darth Sidious/Palpatine in defeating Mace Windu (sending Samuel L. Jackson's purple lightsaber-wielding Jedi out like the badass he is), Anakin pledges his loyalty to the Sith lord. Our "Chosen One" then proceeds to march an army of Clone Troopers over to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Not long after, we cut to Anakin cornering a group of Younglings in the Jedi Council's chambers. Cue Anakin extending his lightsaber as he prepares to mow down a room of wide-eyed and terrified children.
In context, of course, this scene is extremely effective in showing just how far...

At the risk of having the first sentence of this article seem like it was written by a six-year-old, Darth Vader is awesome. From the iconic mask to the all-black outfit, to the slow, labored breathing that heralds his arrival in a scene, everything about the artist formerly known as Anakin Skywalker just oozes cool.
Vader's lasting dopeness has made him one of the most popular movie villains of all time, achieving popularity in a 2016 poll that would have made him the frontrunner in the presidential election, had he not been a fictional space fascist. But apparently, Vader is not viewed with such reverence by his own creator. According to a 2005 Rolling Stone piece, George Lucas, the creative mind behind the "Star Wars" franchise, doesn't see Vader as quite as cool as the movies' fandom does. Lucas actually sees Darth Vader as "a pathetic guy."

Obi-Wan Kenobi has reached its final act. One climactic duel and a few farewells later, all paths are now pointed directly at the Original Trilogy. As we watch Obi-Wan riding off into the desert beyond Beggar’s Canyon, the Disney+ series has done what it set out to do, bridging the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The Jedi Master has made peace with the past; meanwhile, Luke and Leia are safe.
But the finale isn’t just about happy endings. It also features a few key cameos that set up what’s next for Obi-Wan and Darth Vader…

Obi-Wan Kenobi Finale Recap: Was There a 'Final' Showdown? Plus, a Familiar Face Appears — Grade It!
After the heroes evaded Vader’s attack on Jabiim, Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s finale found the rebels running out of time, with the Empire hot on their tail and shields waning.
Realizing this, Obi-Wan decides to buy everyone some time for repairs by facing Vader again, even if that might lead to his own death. Hugging Leia goodbye, Kenobi gives the young princess Tala’s (empty, sorry!) holster and promises her that he will come back.

[This story contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi.]
After speaking in code for over two years, Obi-Wan Kenobi head writer and executive producer Joby Harold is now relishing the opportunity to say one particular name: Leia.
When “Part I” and “Part II” of Deborah Chow’s Disney+ Star Wars series premiered May 27, viewers immediately compared the surprise involvement of 10-year-old Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) to Grogu’s introduction on The Mandalorian in 2019. For Harold, Leia was the only answer to the question of what could possibly convince Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) to temporarily abandon his watch over Luke Skywalker. Naturally, fans have already revisited Star Wars: A New Hope in order to analyze Leia’s (Carrie Fisher) message to Obi-Wan (Sir Alec Guinness) and determine whether the two of them had an adventure nine years earlier.
But Harold wholeheartedly believes that Leia’s plea for help makes all the more sense after the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
